I only play GTS, should I get PSVR?

I'm only really interested in playing GTS on my PS4, is it worth getting VR? I can't find any topics directly related to peoples opinions about what VR is like with GTS. I know there is a restricted mode but what's it like? I've never experienced VR so would like a full description of what it's like and if it's worth buying.

restricted to racing vs 1 AI opponent over a maximum of 2 laps.

£350 for VR... imo it is nowhere near worth it, but I'm sure you can decide

Here's one of my videos of VR in GT Sport, and that's basically all you can do with it

It is awesome, yet apart from checking out cars and drive 2 laps I haven't used it much. You are restricted to short races, mostly 2 laps, with 1 AI that doesn't race. Just cruise around with the other car. No times are saved, only distance driven is recorded, yet there is a thread that tries to keep a leaderboard for VR
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gtsport-vr-time-trial-leaderboard.374201/

However, you could also get Dirt Rally with it, that makes it worth it. And hopefully at some point PD will add to the PSVR mode. It would be awesome if you could at least qualify for the dailies in VR. Sadly atm, VR is less than 1% of my play time on GT Sport. While I have probably close to a hundred hours in DriveClub VR, plenty in Dirt Rally, some in Track Mania Turbo and will be playing Wipeout in VR soon.

VR in GTS is really really restricted, it's a shame because the little we can test is awesome.

You can do basicaly 2 things :

- look at the car models by walking around, you can inspect closely any details, it's quite impressive technically, but not very usefull nor fun
- make a 2 laps race against 1 IA car (which doesn't really race, it's more here so you can look at it while you race)

This 2 lap race is allowed on every circuit (you have to gain XP in the classic game to be able to run them, at start there's only 3 tracks available). It's short on short tracks, but on Nurb for example, it can be a 15 min race :)

In the future, there may be an addition for a "classic" time trial mode (see last Kaz interview), but this won't be a revolution neither

If you really wanna race against lots of car, I guess Driveclub VR is better.

The PSVR + GTS is far from a perfect experience due to the very limited games modes, but being able to run any car on any circuit, even for 2 laps, in VR, is yet lots of fun !

Caveat - I'm using PSVR on PS4 Pro.

VR in GTS is like sitting in the car in real life.

It is REAL life 3D (not that crappy fake TV 3D nonsense), in VR it looks like you could reach out and touch the dash buttons, the hands on the steering wheel look and feel like your own hands (if you have steering wheel for gaming then you must buy PSVR to complete the experience).

Outside of the car though, the graphics aren't perfect and not as clear, but you don't really notice or care too much once you are driving fast.

The youtube videos of VR do not do it justice, the field of vision up and down, left and right is not shown on the videos, only a small TV size square in the center of your view is displayed on TV/recordings, and what you are seeing on the TV/recording is just a flat image.

In GTS you are limited to you vs 1 AI, the AI is slow and doesn't really get in your way, so you are able to set your own lap and see how long it took - but the game doesn't currently record your fastest times.

In some race cars, the previous lap time is recorded on the steering wheel digital display, it is also displayed on the dash in a hovering lap timer, this gets wiped as you pass the start/finish though so you need to look at it to remember your lap time.

Some short tracks you get 3 or more laps, but most are 2 laps and nurburg 24hr is 1 lap. But you can just restart straight away and try to beat your previous time. Or change car and try to beat your previous time.

PSVR takes up 90% of my gaming time, split between Dirt Rally VR and GTS VR.

If you already have a steering wheel, then PSVR is a no brainer.

You may get VR sickness, it is something that I had to overcome, you won't regret VR though it may leave you wanting more developers to get their finger out and make it better - ie hotlapping, custom races, etc.

I went through 40 cars in VR the other week in 4hours only stopping for the odd smoke and cup of tea. There aren't enough gaming hours in a day to get bored of driving in VR, even in the crappiest FWD cars

PSVR in GT Sport is cool - but I would not buy it for just GT Sport. The graphics are sub-par, only 1 AI opponent car that is really slow - not even worth having there really - and only one view, in the cockpit (I know it is probably the point). However, you get a great sense for when to turn, and the ability to look where you are going to turn is so much more realistic. I have never had motion sickness with GT Sport, only with Doom VFR. Keep in mind there are free games with PSVR, and demos, if you have PS Plus, some free games are PSVR too.

Nobody has mentioned the difference it makes to the feeling of being at the actual track. They are transformed, particularly through the feeling of elevation changes.

Investing for this one game is a big ask, but if you have the disposable cash and an interest in real life racing it's a no-brainer.

Caveat- I had no VR sickness on any other game but GTS required me to take it slow.

I only really play GTS and GTA on my Pro, but I would buy VR today if it wasn’t so restricted

Didn't Kaz mention he was going to add time trial to VR Mode? I finally got mine set up with my IBIS switch and I enjoy driving in VR. Limited but still good enough to keep you in the game for hours. I wish all cars had a fully modeled cockpit though...

Yeh Circuit experience should be doable, but possibly too much hassle compared to putting improvements into the VR section.

I don't care much for car tuning, but if time trial comes to VR, I hope the tune sheet is recorded against the cars track time. That would encourage me to play about with non stock tunes.

Yeh, if you haven't already bought a wheel for driving games, then you are better off spending the money on a wheel first.

I've had PSVR since release, and thanks to driveclub vr and dirt rally vr proceeding GTS VR, I am running at less than £0.50 per hour in my headset and I only play driving games with it.

Just got psvr yesterday, and loving GTS in vr. Downloading Driveclub as I'm typing this. The demo was pretty sweet. But if all your gonna use it for ous GTS defiantly not worth the money. As @JacksHerer said better to invest in a wheel if you don't have one.

I fired up Driveclub a while back to remind myself what racing against several AI was like, within a few minutes I realised that AI are not the magic bullet to make a killer VR driving game, I was soon bored by the AI and found myself running the time trials, it was disappointing to see my record times had been beat, and when I saw the new record holders using the pavements and cutting every possible corner my heart sank.

So I mostly switch between Dirt Rally VR and GTS, trying out the different cars and the feeling and visibility in the cabin makes a big difference to how easy the car feels to drive.

That citroen is a stupid stupid car.
