Especially the formula GT championship...at 20 laps a pop im not sure when ill be able to dedicate that much time straight through to finish a championship...would be stellar if we could save between races...

Edit: and how about allowing oil changes as well...its ridiculous to think a race team wouldn't touch their engine during an entire series of races....

100% agree!!! Mostly, because this is a feature that the GT series use to have. All of them, until the GT4. For the Endurance races it would be nice too, but, well, we never had that in the previous GTs, so... But, not be able to save during the Championship is a HUGE let down.

Agreed...the chances of me ever touching an endurance race that lasts longer than 2-3 hours is next to nil. I just don't have the time to sit in front of my PS3 for that kind of time...

If a game like MLB:The Show (made by another first party Sony developer) can be nice enough to allow you to save mid game...then there is no reason that PD can't let us AT LEAST save during a championship series...especially one with races of 20 laps each...

And they really should allow saving during the.endurance races as well...

Yeah, I've held off in doing those races at times when I knew I couldn't sit there for an hour or two. Had to just redo the other races I'd already beaten :(. Another thing I failed at once. I clicked to go into the race menu screen of a championship series . Clicked on the first race and then beat it along with all the rest. But, because I did not click the first box to start the series. I got no winning car, no extra prize money and had to redo it all, lol.. I wasn't happy.

Well, the championship series in GT5 are very very very short. All of them. It isn't really a big deal in the current format. I wish the championships would have been longer though (in both number of races and laps), and in that case a save feature such as in GT3, or the option to leave the race temporarily to change your oil or save like in GT4, would become more necessary.

Yes, why did they change it? ! I have nothing but Endurance races and the Formula GT race left and I am not motivated to try them yet because of time issues. I routinely play GT5 for 5 hours at a time on weekends, but I take breaks. Besides, there's no way Im doing an Endurance Race with my Driving Force GT steering wheel !

It would be nice if PD could address this issue in one of the updates.
The Endurance races need to have a save feature , it could be done when you pit in . i know some people will probably think " well in real life you can't save a 24hr race" .

Yes this may be true but one driver in real life cannot drive an entire 24hr race on his own , he has to stop for a rest and let another driver take over.

If your hardcore and want to do the Enduro's yourself and pause your PS3 for days on end thats fine , but i will never do it no way .
Imagine your into your last couple of hours of an Enduro and you just can't push yourself the last bit due to lack of sleep or whatever, you pause and go to bed only to wake up the next morning and find out there was a power cut, How pissed would you be?:ouch:
A save option for this reason alone i reckon justifies the need for one.

i agree the the endurance races need a mid save but only the ones above 4 hours long, i dont want the endurance races to lose the fact it takes some endurance to complete them.

Races like the grand valley 300k and laguna seca 200 miles are fine withour a save option because they take between 2-3 hours to complete

For the 24 hr races they should implement a system along the lines of allowing you to save every 2-3 hours although it should only be allowed in the pits.

for example every 3 hours an icon could flash up on the screen warning you that you are in a 10 minute window to pit and save, would have to be a 10 minute window due to the fact the nurburgring 24 hr track is so long, off course you could still pause during this but it would take at least 3 hrs of gameplay to get to the save game window.

Think this would work quite well because it keeps the endurance element in the game but also allows the slightly less dedicated player play throught the 24 hr endurance races.

For endurance races, why not have a team of drivers consisting of yourself and your B-spec drivers...? That would give the human a chance for a break. Perhaps we could spend five minutes after pitting and handing the drive over to a B-spec driver to plan a time schedule for the B-spec drivers and leave them to it.

Also, we should be able to save mid endurance race but not whenever we choose. Perhaps we should only be able to save after at least an hours worth of driving. As was mentioned above, there should be an element of committment to endurance races.

Either way, I won't be tackling the 24 hour endurance races until (hopefully) this changes.

Can't agree more! This EXACTLY what I think! And I wonder why PD refuse to understand it. 👎

I wonder how many parents are aware that the game they bought little Jonny for Christmas involves him sat infront of the tv for 24 hrs. Ending up a dribbling vegetable.

PD pisses me off for expecting players to complete aa 24hr without the ability to save or change to bspec driver. This is BS. I am not going to overheat my PS3 or lose a day of sleep just to complete these events.

The PS3 can stay on for days like a computer as long as it's not hot in the room, but if the disc is constantly spinning, I'm pretty sure it would take life away from the sensor, and if you're playing with a racing wheel, those things get pretty hot after constant racing. But then again, I would never try an Endurance race with a wheel, instead rather opt for a controller for those.

Yea I don't get why people are freaked out by just pausing the game, then continuing it later. Your PS3 isn't that fragile that it's going to break if you leave it on for a couple of days in this state.

Back on topic - I too miss being able to save mid championship.

The formula GT race takes 2 hours tops, so its not a biggie for that, but definitely for the endurance races.

It's not necessarily the pausing, its the fact that you can't do anything else with your ps3. Netflix finaly came to Canada and i have a massive list of stuff to watch

It's funny because one of the biggest complaints about the game does seem to be the inability to save mid endurance race and/or mid championships. It's not hard.

Come on PD, sort it out with the next update, also whilst your at it add some replay controls please ;)

Those are milestone races in my book, so completing them is a challenge in itself.

But then again I don't expect to "finish" the game in three month's time. Given the daily amount of time people are spending in front of telly, 2 or 3 hours aren't that much at all.

There's always 5 pm in the afternoon on a winter's day...

Actually it's more like 3 Hours, you will find it's roughly Half an Hour per Race.

what i did was win the first 5 races, then quit the last race, winning the championship. So that whenever i have time, i can come back to the last race on its own.

Can't see the point in complaining, there is no really long championships like there are in GT4 (Formula GT, 1000 Miles) so I personally don't see the need for a save in the middle. I know most people don't have masses of time to play the game, but there is only really 1 championship that does require some time to do which is the FGT one. Even that is still not aslong as an endurance.

Come on PD this is the PS3 not a Sega Genesis! I remember back in the day having to pause Sonic to take a break because a complete run-thru took like 2 hours. Seriously the PS3 streams music, movies and so much more (everything according to Sony's commercials) yet it can't SAVE a game between races or pitstops? If I remember correctly both GT1 and 2 let you save between races in a championship.

Glad my PS3 is on a UPS (power backup) because if I lost power during a 24 hour race I'd kill someone. Heaven help if my wife wants to watch a Blu-Ray while my race is on pause :o serious PD this is all kinds of stupid :(

It should not have to, this is just BAD game design. Also after having my PS3 repaired 3 times and dieing again finally I will not be leaving my next one on running for hours paused because of bad game design.

The endurance races NEED a save option. 24 hours is just silly, Sony tell you, you should rest 15 minutes for every hour of play, so there is another 6 hours. You want me to play GT for 30 hours, but health experts say 8 hours sleep is required so another 8 to 16 hours depending on sleep schedule. 46 hours! That is if you have 46 hours free.

I have a job and a family. I get 2 hours GT a night. I would have to leave the PS3 on for 12 days. Sorry honey, no daytime Peggle or Bejeweled while the little one sleeps, no shows on Netflix for 12 days, yeah, not happening!

PD didn't fail to put a save option in to make the endurance racers "hardcore" they did it because it's easier not to implement something that it is to do it correctly.

I've just unlocked the Formula GT World Championship.. and i will not be doing it unless PD implement a save mid-championship feature.
It's a joke. GT4 had it so why not GT5 ?
Im not spending 3 hours straight doing races which i might not even win
Someone needs to tell them about this. At the end of the day even with PD's desire for perfection and close to reality.. its still just a game.

I'm not sure how it would work. Saving mid-endurance race, then switching off and coming back at a later date. Would your opponents just freeze all over the track until you continue? I'm not putting the idea down, I'm just asking if it would be feasible.
I don't understand why B-spec wasn't integrated so you train your driver(s) up and then he/they take turns with you at endurances - this is how it should have been.

As for saving in leaving championships, I would champion the idea if those available were so long as to justify the need. But they're not, depressingly.
