I think GT6 has killed my PS3

I have been reading heaps of threads of people having issues with the game freezing. For some people this has lead to needing to do a system restore to be able to re-boot. My game was working fine for the first 4-6 hours, then the freezing started. I then started getting the 'black screen' of death due to the freezing. A few times after this happened the game froze and required a restore, this lead to the game saying it was corrupt and wouldnt even load, tried playing gt5 and that wouldnt even load. Even the PS3 menu become un usable due to lagging....
Currently sitting here waiting for a full factory restore....

Anyone else have this happen or is my ps3 cactus?

My GT6 is getting along quit well with my PS3 slim. So I do not know why some people having problems with freezing.

Mine is a fairly new slim. Been playing GT5 fine up until christmas. No idea :( will try cleaning it and fingers crossed
Is your PS3 slim has it got a good ventilation around it. And If your PS3 is fairly new It should be alright with dust my PS3 is 2 years old and I used it every day I never open it to clean it. Just clean it on the outside now and then all good with no problems.

Do what Phil 75 said:tup:
And my ps3 is on top of the tv cabinet (instead of inside with the dvd player) and it rests on 4 bottle tops to allow ventilation and cool air all round it. This machine had to cope with repeated bspec bob doing Le Mans and Nurb 24hours back in the day:lol: So far so good. Hope you get your ps3 up and running soon:tup:

I clean mine everyday and give the vents a brush out every few days, it is out in the open well ventilated.

I promise you now, inside it will be filthy!

If any game will kill your PS3 it will be either GT5 or GT6 since they push the console to its very limit.

I have the fat one and I have little freezing, mostly at the start of the race, other than that I have no problems, and I haven't cleaned mine out ever, just the vents.

You mean simply unscrewing? 'Cause I want to clean mine... ;)

If you want to clean it properly your going to have to watch a disassembly video and learn how to take apart the whole ps3, and while your there re-apply good new thermal paste.

Cleaning the fan blades back to new condition requires lots of patience, Q-tips and some cleaning alcohol.

Ok, thanks!

I had only one freeze up with my 500gb Super Slim, but that might have been before the 1.02 patch. No other issues since then.

I've got a 160Gb Slim. The only weird thing it does is at the beginning of a race, during the external camera for the rollout animation, it pauses for a bit, then runs great for the whole race then it pauses when I cross the checkered flag.

GT6 is not even close to pushing my 160gb Slim to the limit like other games. So far I've had only one game freeze since I got the game two weeks ago. It did require a system restore and that's not good. It's like if I unplugged the PS3, which wasn't the case. No game that freezes does that.

Other than that occasion, I must say GT6 performs pretty well.

I have this, but just at the beginning. Other than that I had no problems, except the personal bgm.

A buddy of mine has a 160gb Slim. His freezes at Brands Hatch in the same turn during Career & Arcade mode. He can't get out of Novice because of this. He's even exchanged the disc (Best Buy).

This is his Brands Hatch!!!

^I'm pretty sure that PS3 is near death.

Look at it this way; your PS3 was going to die soon anyways, and now you can get a new one! Also on the system restore thing, I wouldn't worry to much about it; my 80GB Fat PS3 has done it for quite some time (almost right after I got it in '08 actually) and it still runs. I've chalked it up to my PS3 being a Tsundere bi***

Update:
Pretty sure my poor PS3 is dead :( RIP
Can't even get it to turn on, it just gets stuck at the system restore screen. I am just putting it down to bad luck and poor timing with it dying.
Off to the shop to get the cheapest new PS3 to keep playing GT6!

That only happens on ONE track, Brands Hatch. My buddy doesn't over use his PS3 either.

Mine is in a open face video cabinet with a couple of holes in the back for ventilation and it does not get that dusty. But If you have your PS3 just sitting on top of a cabinet or table now that is bad.

GT6 killed mine 2 days ago. I was in an online room and was practicing before the race. I then went to exit practice to adjust my suspension, and when I did the screen went black and froze. I then turned it off with the controller but it wouldn't shut down. Then I tried to push the button on the system, nothing. I tried to eject the game, nothing. Finally I had to unplug it from the back, because it would shut down. When I plugged it back in and turned it on it didn't recognize the game in the system. Whenever I put it in the loading circle appeared in the top right corner, but the game wouldn't start and the logo wouldn't show up on the XMB (I think that's what you call it). Then after a few seconds it would make the eject noise but the game would stay in and the system still wouldn't read the game. It does, however, read DVD and CD discs. If you are having the same problem, what's wrong with my system is that one of the lasers is broken. I ordered replacement one today and you can open up the system to fix it.

On a separate note, has anyone noticed any issues with ghosting in their TVs with all the GT6 freezing (part of an image appearing on the screen even when the game isn't on)?

Open the cover and give it a good clean, you will be shocked at the amount of dust and crap inside it, even if you clean it every day on the outside.

My god, this! I had a launch PS3 yellow light on me a few years back and it was going to cost so much to send it to Sony I opted for buying a slim instead. But I had to get the disc I was playing out and opened it up. The thing was such a dust magnet despite me keeping it off the ground and quite clean it was no wonder it failed. I'm surprised it could cool at all had so little room for good airflow. The dust made it worse.
