I have noitced laterly there is a lot of totally useless thread starters happening and I for one would like to see it stop maybe there should be a penalty for those that do it .. even doing something severe like Halfing their post count this would stop it


lets get some real constructive threads going that give good feedback it will be interesting to see if other people feel the same way as me
 
I agree jag_man. There's been lots of pointless threads started lately. I think people are doing it just to get a few extra posts. I don't know what could be done about it though.:confused:
 
Hopefully post counts are abolished in the next version of vB. As far as penalties, we'll have to see what Jordan says.
 
I have been pondering this for maby a week now.
I think that it's kinda due to the GT Series itself. There is such a long time span between the editions being released that there is just not too much to talk about in here anymore. For those of us that have either completed the game or know alot about it we tend not to start threads about the game on a website totally devoted to the game anymore. It seems that most people have to start threads about off topic things that might not seem as important or don't revolve around the game.
Don't get me wrong, there have been some silly threads (i.e. MistaX's "you gotta read this" thread. but I think that it might be in part to there not being much about the game or anything else for that matter that is of such great importance for us to talk about. Remember: Idle hands are the Devil's workshop!
There are many of us that started out here and didn't know too much about the game, or did know alot and wanted to share some experiences, so things in here seemed much more interesting. So through our first dealings here, when everything seemed so grand, we became friends with others here. These friendships that have been formed here can translate into meaningless threads, but it's just a way to keep in contact with your friends and have a good time in this slow period.

I was thinking what will be going on in here when GT4 finally hits the states. I think it will be an absolute MAD HOUSE in here. So many threads that Jordan will have to get some help to sort everything out.
But as of right now, there is a lul between the GT's and all of us in here would still like to maintain contact between friends and others and unfortunately sometimes it is done in a way that is meaningless, irrelevant and useless, but I don't think anyone should get punished for it. If all the meaningless ones were to all of a sudden dissapear, there wouldn't be much to talk about with your friends at all.

Just my thoughts.

If you would like a thread started that will create intelligent conversations think of one and post it. Don't wait around for someone else to.
 
How about disproving Einsteins Theory of Relativity! That would be a good one. Me and M5Power have already started our preliminary research.

congraulation you have just sovled one of the world biggest problems ..... people get bored so they go around being a pain to society by wrecking things.. graffatti etc and its ok to do this cos there BORED I think not it just plain childish and it the same here do spoil it for those that enjoy it
 
Guys, appreciate the sentiment, but the description 'useless' is fairly vague (well, very vague, if truth be told).

jag-man, appreciate you're probably trying to avoid a flame war from affronted people (and fair enough too!) but I'm inclined to think you might actually need to give some details of what you consider 'useless', even at the risk of the above.

There's already a thread about this in The Rumble Strip called "Stop the Idiocy and Spam." People didn't like it because it was too serious and clearly I needed to take Midol at the time. :rolleyes: :mad:

Well, Jag man, if you are complaining about people around here "wrecking things" and being a "pain" you need to take a look at yourself. Your comment to me "you have just solved one of the worlds biggest problems." rings of sarcasam. Your comment lacks in taste, courteousey and professionalism. Which are the things that you desire of the rest of us in here. Please display those qualities yourself before you try to enforce others to do so!
I understand that this is a topic that upsets you and those are your feelings, and you are entitled to them, and I can respect that. But never, ever try to belittle someone who is just trying to offer their opinion or a different point of view.
In society being board is not an excuse to commit a criminal act. But here, on a website, being board is not at criminal act and therefore is not punishable. You want to make it that way. You want to ruin the harmless fun that people are having in here and that goes against the purpose of this site. If you don't like what is going on in here then leave. Don't read a post if you think it is irrelevant, and if the thread "tricks" you into reading it, well, have a good chuckle at it and go about your business.

this was not directed at you but that at your statement that if people are bored it is fine to run a muck it is not and there is a way that things can be done and that is use the report button

but that all this doesnt make it right for what people are doing and us fighting between oursivles doesnt fix the the problem to all spamer's i ask that you stop your crap

No where in my statements did I say that I condone any of this behavior. I simply wanted to offer an explanation to the sudden outbursts of the "spam" that seem to be taking place here, and to also give hope for the future that this will most likely not be happening once GT Concept, and GT4 hit our shores. Being board is not an excuse, however, this "spam" is a way of keeping in touch with friends.
You said it yourself "sometimes you can't think of anything to say then it's just a case of sitting back." Well these people that you speak of obviously don't want to just sit back and wait. Look at the controversy those threads have started just in this thread! Now how can you say that those threads are useless?
 
Hey jag_man: What's wrong with these so-called 'useless' threads? If you don't like 'em either don't post in them or don't read them. Personally, I love reading threads and I do, constantly. Don't complain if you think they're useless - just ignore them!

GTP isn't crap!! In fact, the character of the people on GTP makes it worth visiting - including their stupid threads or weird hobbies!

Frankly, though, what you see as 'trash,' other people view as something to do and someone to have fun with. I don't think there's a soul on here who things "How Many Replies" is useful, but most of us like to post there. It's all about perspective.

what i call a useless thread is one that was titled IM NOT GOING TO POST ANY MORE you open it and it says for 2 minutes

AND PLEASSE DONT CCORRECT MY SPELLINHG IT"S ME IF ITWRONG PUT UP WITH IT OR LEAVE SAME THINhG okkkk

why do these threads anger
beause I beleive I was trying to do something for the total good of GTP. dont play the game never had and dony have any intenstion of playing it. to me there is and never will be a substitute for the real thing. I come here to converse with fellow people who have a love for cars I find the fourms a great way to chat to fellow car lovers . what i object to is totaly stupidity and like threads marked read this now which is a total meaning less thread and also thread like I am not going to post any more and you open it and it says for 2 minutes the how many replies it has had some great comment in it .
it angers me when you are trying to lift the quality of something so that all will benefit .
to a lot of people a post count means a lot I dont have all the spare time that most have to get there post count way into the 1000's
I was taught when I was young if you dont have anything to say dont say anything I never intented to have a direct attack at you for your comments ...all that hit me while reading it was were board so thats why we are doing it and that is the same thing you hear in the world today were board nobody does anything for us well how about you (not meaning you ) do something to help other people you might be amazed at what happens

i go on here to talk about the same thing... i do play the game aswell...though i agree that pointless threads do get pretty annoying but i just ignore them and find somthing worth rplying to.. instead of wading through SPAM.
 
Just don't even look at other ppl's threads if u think they are spam. They don't hurt the community here unless they are offensive.
 
Sorry guys, I'm closing this before it gets any more out of hand. I have already closed the threads in debate, and I won't hesitate to close any more like them.
