Obviously not straight away, but one of the reasons I bought the game was because I was lead to believe Safety Cars would be implemented at some point.

Just read this on the project cars official forum;

Ian Bell (Head of Studio) says "I don't know guys, don't you think it would get a bit boring? That's the reason we don't have it TBH."

Does this mean no work has been done on Safety Cars?

Someone on here said recently that work has been done and would be implemented in the future. Curious about the mixed messages.

Quite honestly it would add nothing to the game.

Spooky if I was you I'd just cut my losses and trade the game in. You haven't been happy since day one so why keep torturing yourself playing this sub standard game? Go back or move on to a game you do like. All the negativity can't be doing you any good.

I disagree. Safety car is part of racing, the main point of the game, and secondly the AI is so bad crashing everywhere there's often pieces of bodywork or wheels (yes wheels!!) when it's not the car itself laying in the middle of the racing line and it's quite annoying sometime.
The AI is so dumb it won't yield nor pit immediately when they wrecked their car or lost a wheel (often doing 1 extra lap), and the chances you crash them and ruin your own race is quite high.

If you don't believe me just do a 4-5 laps open wheel race in Monaco, I bet several cars will be damaged and right on your way.

OK I'll trade it in for one of the many other sim racers available on PS4... oh wait.

Let's not turn this into a thread about your perception of my opinion of Project CARS, I was asking about the mixed messages regarding safety cars.

I don't know. I haven't felt like the game is lacking a safety car.

If it was implemented correctly it would add to the realism I suppose but in real life race officials do some deliberating before deploying one so I'm not sure how you would program it. Also it would be out the majority of the race in public lobbies lol.

It works well in the F1 games and you can still disable it both online and offline.

Great. If they decide to add it in future it would be a good option. I don't think it should be a priority at the moment.

I beg to differ. The safety car is a key part of racing and not only does it keep the authenticity but it also brings excitement and directly impacts race outcomes quite often.

I remember NASCAR on PSP having Safety Cars, I really enjoyed it especially when it completely changes your pit strategy.

Though authentic, I understand why people would despise. Imagine you being far in the lead than Safety Car. When you restart you get spun out, it would be the Real Racing version of Blue Shells.

but like I said, it is authentic and changes pit strategy and I think the good easily outweigh the bad.

I would think not putting it in the game because it would be a "bit boring" kinda betrays the whole idea of the game being a racing simulator....

You can't have exciting moments in all laps in all races, and it would at least add more stories to the game from your races, whether they be online or against the AI, not just the frustration of having a 30 second gap you had in the lead nullified, but also say that 30 second gap nullified when you were in second and you use it to your advantage

A mindset of picking and choosing what rules to implement based on end excitement alone is what has already ruined many a good racing championship in the real world

Exactly, how do you think Hamilton feels about the Safety Car in Monaco yesterday ? Racing is racing. :D
Or even a slow zone, full course yellow/code 60 option, 'cause right know your 10s lead is already spoiled by the freaking AI but the immersion too.

Edit: And BTW Safety Car online would probably educate people not to wreck every one especially on the start. They'll eventually get bored of racing at slow pace.

People would just disconnect online, they already do if the crash. :)

A mobile danger disconnected is a danger less I have to care of. 👍
And they will probably use the online reputation at one point and filter people in the lobbies.

The only downside to the safety car is if every single race saw it employed, That wouldnt be realistic. However if they have lead people to believe it is going to be in then "it'll get boring" is not an acceptable excuse to leave it out. Frankley it does just sound like an excuse to not bother doing it.

A virtual auto safety car limiter or a real safety car would be a good idea if you select a race of 10 laps or more..Any laps less then this an option of yes/no to switch it on manually before the race starts if you wanted. It would make for some interesting races online and with the daft AI in game in the future.

Being able to actually drive into your pits would be good. Seeing the pit crew would also be cool.

I'd like safety cars in the game, it would add some added realism and strategy to the racing. 👍

I read "It would be boring" as "It would be too much like hard work".

Never mind the fact that we were all told they would be in the game.

@UkHardcore23 lol if that's the most intelligent thing you can add to the thread.

They said a lot of things. I remember also that they said at some point that there would be cranes to remove wrecks from the track. That didn't happen as well...

Well they have safety cars in iRacing's oval series, at first I thought wow cool ! Then I had one race in the Nascar Truck series where we spent 20min of a 30min race behind the safety car....Honestly if the game doesnt absolutely need them then we dont really need them. Believe me spending 20min behind a safety car sucks !!

I'm not sure. With the amount of issues the game has at the moment I think adding a safety car could just add to the bugs in the game already! :)

Well obviously it would need an option to turn it off for those who don't want it, but I think its a good idea to have it in the game.

So is it or is it not being impleminted?

Which is probably the reason it's missing many features, including a safety car.

While a Safety Car being added wouldn't make or break my decision to buy PCars, I would still welcome it. Adds realism and would be cool in online lobbies when there's a big crash on track the safety car comes in to slow down the cars to prevent an even bigger crash from happening.
