I want to punch the rally copilot in the throat!

After years of being told to slow down and turn here by my real life copilot (wife) I have to admit that I barely hear him anymore. The few times I do hear him I just look right an smile and nod. Must be a trained response.....lol

Lol you got some real experience on you then.

I've noticed if you wait for him to tell you what the corner is, at least 50% of the time it's already to late to take the turn well, and 10-25% of the time, you'll slam into the wall.

And yes, firing him and buying a map I can put out of my view has been a dream of mine from day one.

This guy is such a big idiot... I just got around to doing some more rally specials, and if it's not bad enough the game seems to think blind sharp turn at the top of crests is a good idea (despite the fact my copilot doesn't know the term "over crest") the copilot is a moron and calls out so many turns in such a useless way...

If a few turns are back to back I can never be sure if he is talking about the one I am coming up on or the next one... sometimes he just lets 2 or 3 turns in a row go by as if they are one despite not even saying "long" and I love how he doesn't tell me it's a 3 right until I am cresting into it after a long flat out straight...

If this was a real rally copilot the driver would shove him out the (broken off due to horrible copilot notes) door and just take his chances :grumpy:

I found the tarmac rally tough, the race moves way too fast for that idiot co driver.

Lol, one time, at band camp. Wait...

Let's start that again...

One time, when my copilot was counting back from 5, he wasn't even on par with the 3-2-1 on the screen, which distracted me a bit at the starting line. :p

I agree that the Co-Drivers in the Colin McRae games where very helpful and are far better than the one in GT5. The pace notes that the Co-Driver is reading in GT5 seem basic and don't give enough detail for me to pay attention to them. I just use the map instead.

Yes far too basic... I mean he doesn't say "into" to let you know turns are linked and hwne he says long he doesn't even say "opens" or "tightens"... so I go into a long 3 right and I have no idea how many right hand turns I really have to face and whether I can accelerate out of them or need to brake more out of them...

This was the worst one for me also... on the other tracks the copilot usually had enough time but the markers for tarmac didn't get spaced properly so if you are ever approaching a turn fast, say after a long straight, you are probably going into a wall.

I just follow the map and suggested gear...

While it works, it's the exact opposite of how rally is supposed to work - which is a big shame...

I knew even back when people started saying how awesome it was GT5 had the WRC license that it wasn't to going to pan out :(

Something really weird happened today doing the tarmac rally: I was using the c4 wrc, should been untouchable.first stage, first split had me 8 seconds ahead, next split I was 7 seconds ahead.stage ends, and I'm 16hr seconds behind! I had no crashes, so watched the replay and was none the wiser, the timing was just off, weird. Also FYI, using race softs on the tarmac rally makes it 100 times easier

The rally split thing is a pretty well-known issue. My theory is it gives you your split against the slowest AI car rather than the leader, but whatever, it's messed up.

Anyone else think the codriver calls turns one gear too slow? I always take turns one gear higher than what he calls, even the corners right after crests.

Depends a lot on the tires... for the special events where I am limited to sport soft I find them to be about on unless I can clearly see the upcoming turn and properly prepare to throw weight around for it.

I want to punch the guy in the throat who left out a quit button after you complete each section of the rally special events. You have to wait until the next section loads to quit. Big punch in the throat.

And there is no restart. You have to leave the event and come back in waiting through a bunch of load screens. Frustrating when the challenge is itself frustrating enough.

Amen

When you first tackle one and realise you've brought an inadequate car and need to get back to your garage or the tuning shop sitting through the already achingly long load times just to quit is an exercise in patience.

The co-driver is next to useless though. Can it be turned off?

Absolutely agree... and it's not like I don't appreciate that the rally segments are run properly with staggered starts, but do I really have to watch everyone go ahead of me? Can't you just have 2 guys on track and I wait for the third and then I go?
