in the land of stupidity
Yesterday I was in England for the first time. A friend of mine, a truck driver, invinted me to go with him to England to visit some customers. I always wanted to go to England, so this was my change and I took it. It was a very nice experience, although I was very surprised about the driving style of most people on the highway.
The first place we visited was Leighton Buzzard (or something like that); Then we went on to Northampton.

It seems to me as a very beautiful country besides the weather. It was raining all the time, yesterday. I would love to go back.

I find Ohio quite unspectacular, so maybe we're usde to where we live. I think some city-types from Europe would be amazed that you can drive 20 miles between towns in some places here and not anything resembling civilization.

Anyway, I'd like to go to England. I'd like to go to a few European countries, but I'd be nervous not speaking their language. I know some German words, but I can't form intelligable sentences. But I do have a knack for English, so I'd fir right in.
And how do you Brits drive on the highway?

From what I have seen yesterday, slow, very slow but very disciplined. The only thing I found very dangerous is, when it starts to rain almost everybody brake. Beglians don't even drive slower (which is also very dangerous), when it starts to rain. My friend was 80% of the time faster with his truck then other trucks and cars.

Still I like it over there.!!!!:)

Before I forget, I can't believe how many traffic jams we were in yesterday.

I find england kinda unspectacular though if its not London.

I find London unspectacular, but the country that surrounds it, i.e. the rest of England, especially the North West to be a wonderful place.
Big, dirty, overpopulated cities full of folks who're scared to leave the confines of their comfort zone just don't do it for me! :yuck: London is the sort of place I can stand for about a day or 2, go in, see the good stuff, museums, parks, etc. but then I have to get out, why anyone would want to live or work there is beyond me?!! I'm the same with New York City.

You need to get out more Poverty! Go take a drive through Derbyshire, or Cumbria. Visit Warwick or York or Chester or Bath, they're small cities with a tonne of character.

My 2 cents.....

Are you sure you visited England?

Most people drive at 80mph+ on the motorway. When it rains though, most people take great care to drive at 90mph+, without lights on and less than 9 feet from the car in front - especially if they drive light-coloured panel vans...

I'm sure you visited somewhere else...

Oh, right. Disregard.

You went to Leighton Buzzard? I live in Leighton Buzzard. Finally, someone has visited our little town, with, erm, a narrrow gauge railway and the world's best sand.

I recently went to a part of London that has a population of around 60,000 and gets some 185,000 visitors every day, or 67 million a year - more than 10 times the number of the UK's next most popular 'tourist attraction'... it has two London Underground stations that are about 10 minutes apart, and it's not bad for plane-spotting either...

I'm with Smallhorses on this one - there are a ton of great places to go and see in England and the rest of the British Isles (although I love London too...)

Yesterday I got soaked at work!

Funny, I'm not that keen on London personally, it has it's uses but as a place I enjoy going to it's not that high on my list. I think very much along the same lines as smallhorses, I much prefer the lakes, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire I've been to York a few times just for a day out. I much prefer manchester to London even. I think the countryside in England is fantastic, it rains a lot all over the country which is the only downside to England imo. Though it has been a nice day today.

I haven't spent much time further north than Newcastle, though I do agree Scotland is a very beautiful place.

I just watched an episode of Top Gear, the one with e caravan trip. The scenery was, well, not cool. Green. For miles and miles. Just grass, nad hardly a tree. At least we have farms and woods in Ohio to break up all the grass and such.

Caravan sites in England are not exactly renowed for their breath-taking scenery... :p

you're funny

i live 15 miles away from northampton, you shoulda come to call for me :P

i was off school sick

Wha? I thought you Europeans all had HDTVs sitting in your living rooms, and HD cable or satellite hooked to it. Isn't your evening news in HD? Hell, I can't even afford a 20 inch HDTV. It's hard to believe you have all that and the programs suck. Except Top Gear.

That is very true about the motoway driving, people do tend to go upto and over 90mph on the motorways even in bad weather, they only slow down when the traffic starts to get heavy.

Keef, that episode of TopGear isn't at all any representation of British coutryside, as TM said, caravan sites are often on falt ground with nothing but fields around.

As for British TV, we used to have loads of great shows like Only fools and horses but Brtish TV isn't all that great, one show I do like a lot though is Spooks, thats great imo. Other than that, TopGear and Match of the day are pretty much all I watch but I'm not a big TV watcher.

Been to england a few times (Gran lived in Southampton)

Been in london, liverpool and southampton, thats all though.

I still like Ireland better though (obviously)

I couldn't agree more, Smallhorses :).

I find London pretty nice, depends where abouts you are really, I normally just go to Hamleys and Selfredges, around there is good.

Brittish TV is mostly good, you get that bad comedy now and then, but most of the comedy is funny, most the other shows are good to watch and intresting at the same time.

No, Ohio is really just that unspectacular. It is by far the most boring state I have ever been to.

Despite not having many people, Wyoming has some beautiful scenery. Ohio is a flat, bland, sprawled out wasteland. I went to school in Ohio for a year, and transferred out as soon as I could.

But, Ohio is where the most "proper" american dialect stems.

Bloody Southerner.

You don't know what real countryside is down there.

Omnis, totally. The only people that actually pronounce words as they are in the dictionary are people from the Midwest, mostly the north side like Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan, and people from California. But the fools in California all came from here searching for less boring land, so they don't count. Florida isn't too bad, at least the big cities, for th same reason as Cali.
