I was in England for the first time in my life

I find London unspectacular, but the country that surrounds it, i.e. the rest of England, especially the North West to be a wonderful place.
Big, dirty, overpopulated cities full of folks who're scared to leave the confines of their comfort zone just don't do it for me! :yuck: London is the sort of place I can stand for about a day or 2, go in, see the good stuff, museums, parks, etc. but then I have to get out, why anyone would want to live or work there is beyond me?!! I'm the same with New York City.

You need to get out more Poverty! Go take a drive through Derbyshire, or Cumbria. Visit Warwick or York or Chester or Bath, they're small cities with a tonne of character.

My 2 cents.....

lol I used to live in nottingham as a baby, in some small village in germany also as a toddler/kid, lived in Jamaica as a pre-teen and once I even stayed in cornwall for a week.

Cornwall was so bloody boring. I went to a cinema there and I swear they only had one screen and the room was level only seating about 25 people. Oh and the screen was about 50 inches big aswell  Never again, I prefer living in, or near cities.

Although I do undertsnad where your coming from, sometimes London life is a bit hectic, but where else could I charge £120 for about an hours worth of plumbing work? :D

for what? The school run time attack  or do you just have a lot of boy racers down there.

You wouldn't earn as much elsewhere sure, that's a possibility but you wouldn't spend as much either, the cost of living in London is the highest in the UK, a loaf of bread in London can cost many times more than the same loaf here.

And now there's no more British motorshows in Birmingham there's very little reason other than posdsibly work for me to go there.

Omnis, totally. The only people that actually pronounce words as they are in the dictionary are people from the Midwest, mostly the north side like Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan, and people from California. But the fools in California all came from here searching for less boring land, so they don't count. Florida isn't too bad, at least the big cities, for th same reason as Cali.

No, seriously, there are 3 american dialects: "Southern", Ohio, and New England. The Ohio dialect is what the media everywhere MUST use. That's why you don't hear Al Roker saying, "Sho' nuff, it gon' rain, ya hear?"

Florida is horrible. For those that use ohio dialect, a lot of them don't even use grammar or adhere to english worth a squat. Then, there is the New Yoakahs and the jews. They have their own dialect as well. The rest is a mix of really bad patois, creole, spanglish, and other slang.

Basically, what I'm saying is that, while the dialects themselves can still be classified as proper english, the content of their speech is really god-awful from a proper point of view.

Okay, so, yeah, when I was in England, I just remembered a really boring air force base, two giant flesh-colored communication spheres that looked like fake tits, and lots and lots of highway surrounded by sheep. That, and the ferry/hovercraft ride in and out of Dover with the white cliffs and etc.

i would like to go to England one day, but it would be too long in a plane, i hated being in the plane for 1 hour, going from Adelaide to Sydney, or 2 hours from Brisbane, but 24 hours:crazy::scared:

Famine has a point though. People do generally drive at 80 mph+ on the motorway here, with the limit only at 70 :scared:.
Did you notice though that you hardly ever hear horns in traffic jams? Every other country I've ever been too enjoys blasting the living daylights out of each other with car horns.
I m ean, what good will it do? :p

RAF Menwith Hill - a listening post for... the US... :D

I'll probably never make it to England, but it is one of my favorite countries. What draws me the most about England and the rest of U.K. is the music. Many years ago, I realized that nearly all of my favorite music came from U.K. It was scary and amazing at the same time. Weird. I especially love their Hip Hop, like that 50 pence. j/k

If I ever made it there, I want to go to as many concerts as I can. And eat fish & chips. Oh, can't forget about one of those UK GT Party things you guys have. That would be sweet. :)

I'm glad kikie got to visit and enjoy England. You lucky dog!

on the Euro shuttle they served "English breakfast". My friend took it and his stomach was upset. He said he had eaten for a full day. I can't believe you English eating stuff like that every morning.

Oh a full English is the best start to a day you can have, two sausages, eggs, bacon, hash brown and some beans on toast washed down with a cup'o tea. The best way to end a day is with a chicken and donner kebab. Oh yes.

i have bacon and eggs sometimes when i don't have to go to school, i'm not allowed to have a cup of tea because i'm too young, i normally have sausages on a barbecue for lunch or tea, and i hate baked beans:yuck:

Do you live inside my mind? You did forget the black pudding and a good old fashioned 'tattie' scone though!

One thing England has over Scotland is roast dinners... I can't say it has ever been a tradition in Scotland to have a roast on a Sunday lunchtime (although I reckon plenty of people do in Scotland), but here in England you can't seem to walk for 5 minutes without coming across a pub that's doing a roast lunch... although, if it's pub grub you are after, I can't say I've been anywhere better for lunch in the pub than Ireland - but you can get a mean Sunday roast just about anywhere in England 👍

The traditional English breakfast, however, is sometimes mildly disappointing - since the best thing about it for me is haggis, and you don't get that down here 👎

England seems like a nice place, but it's a long way from here:(, too long trip there if i can ever afford it:(

Ahh - haggis, actually my favourite meal not just for breakfast but dinner with 'neeps and tatties'!

My mum has always cooked a sunday roast but as you said i cant think of a pub that does!

Same here, doesn't matter how much the traffic jams up, it never turns into horn blasting sessions.

I want to go back there but not by truck this time but by car.

Any suggestions???

Come to my house for a good GT-spanking. Then visit Mars, VEXD, Mr. P, daan and GilesGuthrie for similar... :D

Of course, if you come over on 28th/29th October, you could come to UKGTP6...

I think it's because we're much more used to them . That and we have a strange duty to not moan, but instead call up the nearest radio station with traffic info.

Sure you are. You're in the United Kingdom of Englandland. Scotland's part of England, right?

:D

A GT-spanking?? Does this mean that you think that I'm not good enough????

Wooo I'm liking this. :D You should go, kikie. I'd love to see how the wild card(you!) measures upto some of the UK's elite.
