Hi all,

I bought NFShi(f)t a while back, i found it to be a decent game at first but after a week or so i hated it, It was by far the worst racing game i have ever played. It was just trash, The online experience was equally as rubbish, Cars literally jumping 10 feet high when hit, idiotic players who ram in to you all the time, Not once did i have a clean race online, Graphics were good but thats about it. Thankfully, I've now sold the game and bought supercar challenge, A game which id never heard of until i came across it by luck. Suprisingly it had good reviews.... is it as good as many perceive it to be?

What i should be expecting when i first pop in the game into my PS3. How does this compare to GT5 prologue in regards to physics/graphics?

Are there many players online? Can we drive in the rain? Does this game feature car damage, If so how is it like? Is this currently the most under rated game (aside from F1CE) racing game on the market? Any tips? ;)

Looking forward to playing this game online with you guys when i recieve it. Add me on PSN: XAl-Aqsa

Thanks!

I like Shift a lot more than e.g. Grid but that's another topic anyway.

A lot of answers to your questions can be found within many older threads here.
When judging SCC you should always bear in mind that the resources to make this game have been a lot less than for the big ones.

Graphics is nowhere near GT5P, nice rain is available and there is some damage.
Physics is just different and you have to get used to. But it can be quite rewarding.
Important: Download the latest title update before playing.

I can't tell you how many are playing online now. My PS3 is still offline because of the OtherOS drama.

Prepare for a shock. This game is quite unforgiving, I think the challenge bit in the title is fairly apt. To make things worse, your first tutorial level is a McLaren F1 around the nurburgring GP circuit.

Be patient, learn the car, brake early and slowly move your braking points forward bit by bit, lap after lap.

Also, pick up the C6R and when you can, the 599XX.

My opinion of Shift is not quite as harsh as yours...not quite as harsh. But similar. I was so excited about Shift during it's development and was looking so forward to it's release. And it DOES have many positive qualities. But ultimately, every time I play it, I come away feeling extremely disappointed, even disgusted, because it could have been so much better with a realistic physics model. But I think my expectation were unreasonably high and you can't expect a game that rewards you points for knocking other drivers off the track to be an uncompromising racing sim.

s.... is it as good as many perceive it to be?

To be fair, this is the Supercar Challenge forum and people are (generally) here because they like this game. But none of us are blind to it's shortcomings either, and it does have plenty.

Compared to Shift or even GT5P, you're going to be disappointed in the graphics. It's not horrible but it's not photorealistic either. As for the physics, I think most people in this forum agree, it has the most realistic physics of any racing sim on the PS3, perhaps falling a bit short of Prologue in some areas. But it makes up for it with wonderfully communicative force feedback that maybe exaggerates the sense weight transfer but with a little practice you really become one with the car. It's this game most outstanding feature.

Are there many players online?
In short, no. This game is a hidden gem. And sadly you'll find few people playing at any given time. But it's part of the reason why we organize race meets here in this forum. Take a look through some of these threads:

Can we drive in the rain?
Yes and rain effects are done very well.

Does this game feature car damage, If so how is it like?
Damage is poorly implemented. Bits of the car fly off and you can scrapes and missing body panels. But it's purely cosmetic.

but it's Is this currently the most under rated game (aside from F1CE) racing game on the market? Any tips? ;)
We think it is. Because of the extreme sense of weight transfer, many people are initially a bit put off. And because it doesn't have state of the art visuals, a lot of people simply give up on it very quickly. And the fact that the company that produced it, did so on a shoestring budget and had no marketing campaign to speak of. They relied simply on word-of-mouth.

I think this thread... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=127176 expresses many of our feelings pretty clearly. This was an event organized a few months back where we raced in 5 different racing games. And the ability to set up a private lobby, with the conditions you want, with the car you want, at the track you want, with decent physics & voice coms, proves that at least at THIS moment in time, SCC is the best sim racer currently available for the PS3.

One thing that should be added to jjaisli's excellent description of the pros & cos of SCC, is that it has (unlike its predecessor FC & definitely unlike F1CE), very poor AI. This means that for challenging driving you're pretty much stuck with either running time trials, or getting involved in the organized online activities featured here in the GTPlanet SCC forum.

Yeah, that's a very good point. It's the one big thing that kills me about this game - so difficult to get some good challenging races in, be it offline or online (with online not being active enough, and offline AI too poor).

Thanks all for the replies. From the video you posted jjaisli, the graphics dont look too bad at all. Its a shame very few people play this game online as I rarely play offline as it is. Guess ill have to enter one of the tournaments going on this forum

One other question i wanted to ask, Offline multiplayer...Does it exist in this game?

there's no split-screen gaming for this game, sorry.

It does however, allow up to 16 players via LAN--an almost forgotten feature now-a-days.

Hi all. Just got the game today through post... Is this game hard or what?! Went to tutorial mode and i couldn't even get a clean lap in the Mclaren F1! (I use a wheel, logitech wireless, not the best but it does the job)

Also, shut down the game and PS3 restarted :/ Not happy about that at all.

Unfortunately, none of the 3 2 of the 3 cars which are unlocked from the beginning aren't much fun. Or at least let's say, they're not the ideal cars to start with. The McLaren is a very powerful road car on 15 year old tire technology. It understeers quite a bit and is so fast it's deceptive. The Enzo is also primarily a road car and when pushed, will also understeer until the cows come home. Once you start unlocking some of the other cars, primarily the racing cars that have much grip and better balance, you'll probably enjoy it more.

And don't worry too much. Lots of people find it intimidating at first. It's quite challenging. Nobody should expect to play this game for the first time and set the world on fire. But when you get it 'right', it's very rewarding.

Resetting the PS3 when the game quits is a known bug. And Eutechnyx seem baffled at trying to fix it or track it down. Nobody is happy about it. I haven't had it happen to me in nearly 2 months. But it does happen from time to time.

If I push PS-button for a long time so that there appears black screen and if I choose to shut down the game from there, it reboots almost every time. But if I push the button lightly so that the XMB comes visible and wait for everything to load on XMB and then shut the game from there, it reboots rarely. Also it seems that plugging wheel off and shutting the game down with controller helps too.

Interesting. I always do a long-press of the PS button and shut down from there, and it almost always reboots first. I must try your other idea.

Thanks for tips. Ive got used to the physics, still way off pace but managing to keep the car on track.

Regards to PS3 rebooting after shutdown, This is unacceptable in my eyes, I dont want my PS3 getting damaged, 3 times ive shutdown and 3 times its rebooted...its not worth playing it if it does this more often then not

Great game but the 'known bug' puts me right off. Contemplating whether to get rid of it or not 👎

Will try that but still...Bug puts me off. Should never happen in the first place. Its unforgiveable

I once thought this too but I can tell you it's almost completely random and doesn't matter which method you use to exit the game. I usually use the long-press method and it hasn't rebooted my PS3 for a very long time.

Eutechnyx are adamant that this bug cannot damage the system, and there is no known case of it damaging anyone's system, to my knowledge. Furthermore, I heard that some other games do this; I think FIFA09 or something?

You're absolutely right; it should never happen in the first place. This is among so many other bugs and design flaws. But users have to make a bit of a compromise in understanding the extremely turbulent development of this game, with various financial and resource problems put into the mix, from my understanding.

It happened again! After shutdown the damn thing restarts the PS3! this has happened 4 times out of 5..and its ridicilous! Have tried exiting via XMB but same thing happens!

I have to say im blown away by the wet weather effects and general gameplay but this huge bug is putting me right off. FiFa 10 crashed today out of the blue , i could not even shutdown the game by pressing the PS button (never happened to me before!). Im certain the known bug caused this 👎

What to do.... Going to flog it if it does this one more time

Well then just sell it now, because it is going to do it again.

The first thing is, nobody can be certain that a bug in one game can cause another game to crash, without detailed information on what the SCC bug does to the system (if anything). And the reality is that it's very unlikely because a game would not have write access to critical areas of the PS3 OS (nor other game data).

Secondly, like I said before, this bug affects everyone with the game, and I don't know of anybody who's system has been damaged in any way by this bug. (Trust me, there would be mayhem on this forum: http://forums.eutechnyx.com/ if it happened to anyone.)

The point is, it's not like you're just pulling the plug out during shut-down. The PS3 obviously does a safe reboot when it, for some reason, can't do a normal shut-down or game-quit.

I don't think I've ever had this happen to me ...

Seriously? I'd say 90% of the time it reboots when I try to quit the game, or shut down the system while within the game.

What kind of PS3 are you using? I've got one of the revised fat ones (40GB, 2 USB sockets, no built-in PS1 or PS2).

Maybe I'm not understanding the scenario you're describing? If I'm in the game, I press the PS button on my controller, go to the XMB & press quit game. The game quits, I go to shut down system at the extreme left & shut off the PS3. Where's the re-boot?

40 GB fattie.

Yeah I tried both ways and I get it randomly.

I have it happen a lot too. When you quit the game there is a long pause followed by 3 beeps. The 3 beeps indicate that the system has (or is) restarting.

Before I thought this was an issue that arose from running a EU game on a NA PS3 or that my PS3 was a bit troubled (other games crash occasionally) but since it is a known bug I guess not. I am quite surprised that Sony let it slide and did not consider it a must fix. Maybe it did not happen when Sony was testing it ... seems unlikely considering how much it is happening to us and that quitting the game to XMB would be a test they would do.

This is the ONLY reason I'm not too worried about it. Well, that and the fact that nobody I'm aware of has ever come forward with proof or even a claim or reasonable theory that this is why their PS3 went YLOD or developed other issues. Like Jerry786, I'm not happy about it. I think it's unacceptable to release a game with such a bug. Eutechnyx released at least 3 patches for Supercar Challenge to either fix bugs or add features and tweaks. But this problem has been there from the beginning and they seem unable to even determine how or why it's happening. But I've been living with it for nearly 10 months and seem no worse for wear. And the original game and patches have all passed Sony Q/A. And ironically, ONE of the patches was actually rejected by Sony for an unknown problem and had to be resubmitted to Sony. Yet they've continually passed the patches knowing this problem exists so I can only assume as well that Sony doesn't feel its a critical issue. Just really annoying. :grumpy:

So crazedmodder...I don't think you've ever posted in this section before. Where the heck have you been? :sly:

I have the same problem :grumpy:,my ps3 model 80 gbs it is restarted with 3 beeps every time that I go out of SCC ,I have tried the different ways but the same happens.....and' an annoying problem :ouch:
I hope that this doesn't damage the ps3:nervous:

I'm pretty sure this has never happened to me. I've had other problems that I've described before, but not that one, as far as I can tell.

You must be the only one...
I guess it's Your tendency to oddity.:p:D

I guess since it always restarted and never caused any data corruption they let it go. Or maybe for some extra money :sly:.

As for posting here ... well I got the game about 1 month ago and was terrible at it and intimidated by you guys who tamed it so I wanted to get some experience before making a peep . Still too scared to play online but your may see me around here more.

Still too scared to play online but your may see me around here more.

Don't be. When I got SCC, it was less than 2 weeks when I was already participating in jjaisli's next 348 Challenge race. I felt very welcomed and of course racing was a blast. So don't hold back and feel free to join us, so that you wont miss all the fun ;)👍

Btw, still no news on Manny?

Well then just sell it now, because it is going to do it again.

Suprise suprise, It did it again! This time, PS3 Internet browser crashed TWICE , its not happened to me before. I'm certain this game is damaging the PS3 hard drive in one way or another. Think about it...

Not happy with System 3 whatsoever, 6 times its rebooted and its an absolute disgrace...If only i knew before i bought the damn thing! 👎

Its such an expensive machine, last thing i want is a buggy game messing it up. Wont be buying any more games from these clowns again. Roll on the F1 2010 game!
