I wish we had real time coaching in GT7, so I’m building it

Hey folks 👋

I’ve been playing GT7 for about 3 years now, usually floating around B/A ranks, top 3% delta on good days. A while back I tried PC sim racing and got exposed to all the coaching/telemetry tools out there. Honestly, it was eye-opening. Having proper feedback on braking, cornering, consistency… it completely changed how I thought about improving. But I came back to GT7 in the end. I just prefer the game, the feel, the community. The downside: nothing like those coaching tools exists here. Improvement is mostly trial and error, watching replays and ghosts, or grinding until something clicks.

I’m a Software Engineer in my day job, and I like to do pet projects. So I decided to take a shot at building a proper real-time coach for GT7 on the side.

Curious if anyone else has felt the same gap/wishing GT7 had the kind of coaching support that’s common on PC sims?

Edit:
To be clear: by “coaching,” I mean live in-game tools (think Trophi style feedback): while you’re driving, you’d receive live feedback about braking points, throttle application, racing lines, etc… There’s a lot of content out there for GT7, but nothing that helps while you’re actually driving.

That would be awesome. But can you get all that information from GT7? The closest app to what you are saying that I tried is Racing Engineer, which works very well, it will tell you through audio your position, fuel remaining, lap, time... but for instance it can't give you the delta from the car ahead or behind because GT7 doesn't give that information.

That’s a great idea!

I think you will find both a lot of useful data about the undocumented APIs and protocols and also some really cleaver people figuring this all out and doing some great things with it.

It’s very much an open source vibe, personally I use Ezio/Ezio Pro dashboard as I love the work and design that @Bornhall has made for it, just really good as are the other apps as well. Also they have been really clever in filling in the gaps that GT data leaves.

Good luck and can’t wait to see what comes out!
