the powers that be at Super Aguri decided to replace Ide (FINALLY!!!) with Franck Montagny (the former Renault tester). so I guess there goes the theory that Ide was put in the seat just to make Sato look good, cause Montagny is quick! he just got fed up with not getting a race seat from Flav & Renault, so he left them to look for one. linkie!!!

but Ide is still their Test driver and i think that Mogntagny is a very good driver:)
 
i feel bad for ide :( but at least this will take some pressure off of him and he will get some more time to get used to the car. :) good move for the team
 
atleast he is still living the dream of being in F1 :) hes not a bad driver, hes just a bit out of his league......if i had a Super GT team he would probly be somone i would pick, GT cars seem much more his thing than F1
 
Talk about demotion! I tought Ide would now be the team's much needed 3rd/friday driver, but no! Just plain, simple test driver. :dunce:

Then again, a test driver brings progress to the team and Yuji won't suffer more pressure about performance and any racing-ship. Harsh hop into F1 for him, since he never got his own fitted seat to start with. :yuck:
 
So I take it this is temporary? I can only assume that Auguri would prefer an all Japanese team, but I could be wrong.

and yes I agree that this takes a lot of pressure off Ide. He has broken himself down with his on-track mistakes and people have broken him down with their criticism. Hopefully he will use this opportunity to build himself back up.

Ide has 2 places where he would have a better chance at, DTM and sports cars. Montagny probably wont be permanent in the team, or will he?
You never know with the back-running teams, but if Franck can deliver then he can expect interest from mid-pack teams. Hopefully.:)

same here... I mean... what do they expect ? That they win the championchip now ? I would have waited for the new chassis etc before making this step... Then again thewre is certainly a financial pressure etc... Why not bring Tsuchiya from BM ? Oh well that would rock, wouldn't it ? :O :lol:

Not a harsh enough punishment in my opinion, but on the off chance he does improve, then good for him. Until then, he'd better watch his ass.

Tiff Needel got in trouble for doing that in an F1 car once isuring testing back in 80 when he raced in F1, or so the story goes.

Ah well what did he do ? He rammed another car, happens every day in motorsports. He certainly isn't the best driver out there, but he certainly is in the worst car. Alonso, Schumacher or Raikkonen in a Super Aguri wouldn't come out of the back of the field aswell and that would mean frustration. And frustration can result in accidents.
Tbh motorsports is also entertainment. You need guys like Sato or Montoya you know... it gets boring without them. F1 is so safe, aslong as nobody gets hurt I enjoy some hard maneuvers and a little accident here and there...

Anthony Davidson has been linked with a seat at the team next season... Great reward for years worth of testing for the Honda "A" Team.

That's the problem, though. He also ran over his pit crew in Bahrain. The guy isn't just a slow driver, he was starting to approach the level of dangerous. Albers' wreck could've easily been a lot worse. In my opinion, the guy's got no business in any form of motorsport.

You realise that most F1 drivers have done that at some point—Ide just happened to do it during his first race. I have no problem with him driving in F1, if he’s lucky enough to get in, good for him.

My problem is that there are so many faster drivers (Bruni, Hamilton, Wurz, me) that could easily do a better job in F1 than Ide. Sure, he didn’t get much time in the car pre-season, but now he’s had the chance to do at least 2,000km of running and he hasn’t shown any significant improvement other than a slight reduction in spins. :indiff:

To me, that makes it even worse...he STARTED OFF with a screw-up. I held my judgement back then, but when he flipped Albers in that completely ridiculous move...that was the last straw for me.

Amen. Unfortunately, the man who DID replace him doesn't yet seem to be much better at the moment. Emphasis on "doesn't yet seem".

He did a little more than ram Albers, Its as if he had a catastrophic brake failure. Its the most terrible racing manouvre I've ever seen in my life, granted I havn't been watching motor sport for THAT long, but that passing attempt was an absolute disgrace. Anyone even thinking for a second that they could get the pass done there should be racing, in ANY catagory, PERIOD. Why? um lets see, becuase you must be mentally retarded, or just have no idea, NO idea of the intricate workings of circuit racing (i use intricate in the lightest sense possible) to try that.

And I'll state again, Ide didn't just ram Albers, he damn well cannoned into him. The impact was ludricrusly high for such a slow corner, such that Albers richotched quite a way off the circuit, and flipped.

Give Ide time. GT cars are very different from open-wheeled cars. F1 cars aren't easy to drive.
And Sato is pretty good, considering he's just 4 secs off pace driving a 4-year old machine (2002 Arrow).

He did a 1'37.933 in Friday practice (compared to a 1'37.817 for Sato). Montagny is a quick driver (otherwise he'd never have been test driver for Renault). He only did 4 laps in quali, so perhaps he had a problem on his car or didn't get a proper flying lap in (I know I saw him recovering from a spin at one point in the session).

Nah it wasn't that bad imo. He hit Albers at a critical point concerning physics and that's why he flipped over. That may have looked terrible, but in fact it wasn't that extreme. If Ide had hit Albers 0.5 sec later or earlier the crash would not have looked that bad. I mean it was not a great maeuver or so, but
it can happen. It's not as terrible as you describe it. The speed and brakes of F1 cars are really extreme and Ide has just missed the right braking point by sth below a second. Maybe Albers added the same amount of time by braking a little earlier and that's it: accident. I don't say that Ide is the talent of F1 but he is not that bad either. And stop using the word "retarded". It's nothing but immature.
 
the 1:46 was WITH a spin. Wow, 15 seconds off with an accident compared to Ide's 6 straight-up clean. Suzuki Aguri could recruit an asian from compton and get a faster time.
 
yeah... like i said before his lap times as well as a few others were depressing to see.. :( the lack of pace was just... sad

Montagny was a Renault test driver two years ago. He knows what he's doing. And Ide was 9 seconds off the pace in Bahrain without spinning on his qualifying lap. Montagny is an upgrade in every way.
 
Physics only affected the flip; Albers still would've been sent off the track by Ide no matter where in the turn he got rammed. It was a bonehead move, and I for one do not feel it is unreasonable for new F1 drivers to be expected to not make such horrible mistakes.

Win the race on debut: Unreasonable.

Demonstrate a basic knowledge of pit procedures and clean racing technique: Reasonable. :crazy:
 
Well he DNF today because of an engine failure, he was a bit off the pace but it was his first competitive race in a while after a number of testing roles.

Give him time and I think he will be a consistant challenger to Sato, who might I just say, is having a very mature and respectful season so far. 👍
