I like doing race events in GT5, but becaus the A-spec & seasonals are short (3/5 laps) you spend more time in the menu's and on loading times.
Why can't you change your car in the menu of each event. It go's faster.

Same thing for the Route X speed test. Nice to test my cars, but very annoying. Test, go back, pick car, go back on track, test, and so on. Each time the same loading times. Why not change the car in the speedtest itself? then it only has to load one car instead of everything else.

I suspect there would still be loading time involved, as the game needs to be able to recognize which car you're using. It may even slow repeated race running (grinding) because it would have to anticipate the possibility of the player changing cars even if they don't.

Yeah of course, only "one" car. No other stuff.

Loading times are becoming the major problem of this game. Its the best game I have played and I have played every GT out there but in recent weeks I found myself waiting for things to load more than I'm racing.

That is a very sad situation to be in especially with what this game has to offer.

If you want to change cars without having to leave the track, just use your private lounge.

As much as I love this game, this thread is just one example of the fragmented structure and lack of continuity in the design of the game.

For example, when I want to race the AI on a particular track, I think only arcade mode allows me to choose the AI difficulty. Why can't I select the AI difficulty when I want to go to practice in GT mode?

When I'm running test on Route X a quick car selection would have been nice, without reloading each time the track etc.. Wouldnt hurt to have it everywhere actually. I think the game wasnt designed that way sadly.

Thats what I'm doing for practicing as a workaround. But then you don't have a ghost, statistics, local leaderboard etc.

So I guess the OP has a valid point!

Agree.. I expect its not Done to keep AI race data in memory. Online lobby Does not Have AI car data stored in memory.
If you had Garage data before the race It would have to reload that AI data. There buy increasing menu to race track load time.
Changing the game engine just for the Speed test track is likely a lot of work just for one single mode... even photo mode requires you to Exit to change cars.

Going from Garage to Race is still only <1 min loading time.

Removing thumb nails and using just text to display the cars may not be enough ether.

Upgrade your PS3 with a SSD, I did it a while back and couldn't be happier. Load times for starting races, changing menus, loading the garage and the sort dropped dramatically and made the game more enjoyable for me personally.

A good way to reduce load times would be to have the ability to turn off auto save. That thing flipp'in annoys me... :/

I approve of this message. The interface could've been a lot more streamlined, but it's not so bad for me to make me stop playing. It's almost even comforting, considering previous games have had similar issues regarding menu design.

Kinda like PDs version of a running joke.

Totally agree,
If they could implanted this idea "https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=239925&page=5" for Custom Folder for your garage.
and then at least put a garage icon at pratice and speed test just before you enter the race, that would be enough.
