Ding ding ding ding. That's why you might as well go to the Caymans or something. Florida is nice in the Keys but otherwise it's just another bunch of cities.

I can generally agree to that. Keep in mind of the snow and stuff we get here, so a beach where its generally warm (with water to match) and women that aren't the size of sea cows is a treat. When I'm in South Florida, I don't spend all that much time on the beach. I head to the Keys, go to the Everglades, or soak in the big city-ness.

I do like Chicago though. Being only a three hour drive, it offers most of what I like. Plus, you can see things from Batman. Oh, and family lives there too.

Alanya, Turkey. I spent there two weeks, it was my birthday present back in '97. the beach is so damn long that if you turn your head fast emough, you can see the curvature of the earth, and even easier to see it when you climb up tpo the Taurus-mountains that are right in the backyard of the hotel. I also visited the Ararat-mountain, but couldn't see any signs of Noah's ark. :odd: False advertisement by church, I'd say  food was good, girls were pretty, scenery was good, and stuff at the bazaar was cheap.. and the nights were beautiful.

The Greek islands.

Though I must say I've done a beach holiday in southern Portugal and it was great. Laid back, most people spoke English (I'm British, we suck at languages, sorry) and there was a clubbing spot 15mins down the road.

I've tried clubbing holidays and it's just not relaxing enough.

I've been told by some family members Dubai is less than impressive; there's no infrastructure, no shade, no drinking, no natural scenery (unless flat deserts and calm oceans are your thing), and walking anywhere is a hot, boring chore. There's not a lot of "culture" nor history to the area. Most anything fun is very expensive, too. I suppose there's lots of architectural sightseeing. But if I wanted to look at other people's cars all day, I'd be at work.

Any place where I don't have to nor worry about work, cars, chores, finances, and anything else going on the world is a vacation enough.

You, Sir, just described Finland.

Chichijima, Ogasawara, Japan! (or bonin islands in english)

I go there at least once a year and, to me, it's paradise.

Swimming with dolphins, whale watching, snorkeling in beautiful reefs, lots of beaches, interesting military history with plenty of remains from the war, the only vending machine that stocks A&W Root Beer that I have found in japan.

Two thumbs up!
