What am I missing here? If SOPA is just their to stop people sharing pirated videos/music ect that doesn't seem a big deal to me personally.
I don't download/stream films music at all really, I buy music from itunes but that's about it.
Is there more to this SOPA thing than I realise?
If it's just to stop illegal downloads then in my opinion it's a good thing...but then again i'm not very savvy with computers/web things.

I found a pretty good explanation of SOPA and PIPA:

http://www.yodelay.com/general/wtf-sopa-pipa

This explanation is more in depth. Its more of an analyzation than an explanation though...

http://blog.reddit.com/2012/01/technical-examination-of-sopa-and.html

But a really simple explanation is that it will destroy the internet we know. Many forums such as GTPlanet will be shut down as well as youtube.

All about ACTA now. 10,000 people in Poland took to the streets to protest about their country signing, which was responded by their government "we will not be blackmailed.."

Going to end badly I feel. A lot of countries have already signed and agreed to the bill.

^ACTA:
1. the wiki article is very old and was not updated.(that's why I always say: Watch out when using Wiki)

2. ACTA was done in secret and only fully publicly released may 2011 (which will form a good juridicial backdrop)

3. For Europe: It still hasn't passed the EU parliament. After that it needs again the pass national parliaments. So it's still a long way and we will have some time left.

But I am all for blocking such a BS bill. And as we know from the past, those thing will not hinder anyone in copying stuff. Pirates will find a way, just as after Edonkey got closed, Limewire opened, after limewire closed, bittorrent took up,....
Look at France, 3 strike rule. Yet it doesn't really get to the pirates as they bypass the system.
Now that SOPA is in coma, we can attack ACTA.

I'm not taking any chances. I suggest we all start backing the internet up and keeping it safe. You start with the boring stuff like military secrets and I'll get on with Jenna Jameson and friends...

Well since Australia can be seen as apart of England this ACTA crap also means we aussies are in trouble.

I suggest we all start backing the internet up and keeping it safe.

Well we can forget to back up some things, like Justin Bieber crap.
