Anybody else using it? Wow, I'm impressed. So much better than IE7. I can actually use it, unlike IE7 that would always deleted my STORED and TRUSTED cookies.

However, my PC runs slower with it. Just started using it, so I've yet to figure out why that is, so I started this thread to find out. Plus, got any tips, complaints or ideas?

New versions of browsers are always using some more system resources such as Firefox 3.

Specs needed:
IE8 Beta 2 requires at least:[57]

* 233MHz processor or higher
* Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution monitor with 256 colors.
* Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
* Amount of RAM required ranges from 64MB with 32-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP to 512MB with Windows Vista

From wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_8#Hardware_requirements

I've been using it for a month or two now, better than anything else going around in my opinion.

But yeah, it's a bit of a system hog, as any web browser that requires 512MB will be.

"Amount of RAM required ranges from 64MB with 32-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP to 512MB with Windows Vista"

:eek::eek::eek:, I know a person with a total of 512mb ram on her vista laptop! But even all those people with only 1Gb ram will have trouble with that. I'm just glad I'm still XP.

What are your cookies settings in the privacy tab?

Medium-High, and GTP has been added to my Manage Sites list as "always allow." It's also one of my "Trusted Sites."

This is the same exact reason why I never used IE7. It did the same exact thing, and nobody from MS would help me, nor could I find a reason with Google searches.

Have you tried different settings? I always have mine on "Accept All Cookies" and have never had a problem. At least that way you know if it's the particular security setting or something more difficult.

Which is why Microsoft can bend us all over for the final attack. Really they have 90% of the market with Apple behind them with 5-7% or more of the market.

I don't like that setting, but I'll try it and let you know if all my cookies are deleted.

Odd that this keeps happening, 'cause it never happens with IE6. I hate to go back using that!

Thanks for your help, BTW.

EDIT: Nope. Restarting my PC deleted all my cookies.

I'd rather use Firefox as it is less of a system hog really. I can't let a single stinking browser take so much ram such as IE!

Firefox might not initially have hog resources, but you start opening tabs (or installing add-ons and themes) and whammo - bye-bye ram!

In one instance, Firefox used almost 1.5gb of ram on my system! At present, it is using close to 500mb!

Edit: Is it worth trying IE8? I've been hopping around deciding whether to or not, I just can't decide...

If you leave it open for hours upon hours it'll do that. Mine is currently using 60 megs.

I got 7 addons, 4 tabs open, and Firefox is only using 173.6MB. I had worst before and still the browser still ran with a few addons and 27 tabs open once. Right now I just randomly opened 16 more tabs and Firefox is running at 188MB as of now.

I will post back around 10 minutes later and tell you of my results.

EDIT: Not 10 minutes but it just jumped to 200MB in ram use in a few minutes. I'd be closing these tab now.

Anti-virus?

In terms of web-browsers they only now hold 74%. (IE - Blue, Firefox - Orange, Safari - Grey).

Anti-virus?

Actually, at this moment, I don't have one. I was using McAfee AV that comes free with MSN Premium, but my PC doesn't work at all when I have it. I download it, and use it once, then get rid of it.

I do have Spyware and Ad Ware, though, plus the firewall. I know that's not good enough, but it's what I have to do for the time being.

I should just get a new PC, but I'm still waiting for some decent motherboards to run DDR3 and have the inputs and outputs I want and need.

I also checked the ADVANCED tab and found something that rids the temporary files when the browser is turned off, but it's unchecked and my problem only happens when I reset my PC.

Could it be a scheduled action someplace in IE7-8 that could be doing it? My cookies got deleted again, and I didn't reset my PC, run a scan or delete my cookies. It just happened on its own.

Weird.

I wouldn't think it's an IE problem only because I never come across it, and if it was it would probably be documented somewhere since IE does have about 80 billion users. But you never know, something locally may have forced IE to do it.

Norton Anti-Virus used to clear peoples cookies randomly, which is why I asked.

And yeah, I was going to get a new PC in the next few months but I'm waiting till early 09 now too, because of DDR3, it's pretty much affordable now and might as well wait, rather than being tied down to DDR2 for X years.

Sorry, I avoided your question...

IE8 is awesome, IMO, but it has some bugs. Like...

1. Left click to highlight and copy text is completely fubar. It goes crazy and wont stop scrolling.

2. Left click problem #2 is you cannot left click scroll down with the mouse and move down the text. Once your pointer hits the bottom of the screen, it stops.

3. Deleted stored cookies.

4. Uses more RAM, so you cannot have more than one or two open windows.

I still say it's worth it, though. I really, really like it despite the problems. It is a beta, so I'm sure they'll get them fixed.

I found out what the problem was. Took me over 12 hours, but I got it done.

I had Trend Micro Spyware program that I used to delete cookies, internet temporary files, web history, etc. What I didn't know was it was no longer being supported; no updates. They never made it work with IE7 or, of course, IE8. Got rid of it, but the problem still persisted.

So, I got CCleaner. That too wouldn't work. So, I got rid of IE8 for IE7 to see if it at least worked. It did! But, I didn't like IE7, so I went back to IE8 to just live with it.

I then went to CCleaner's website forum and asked if it was a known problem, and it was. The advice I got was to uncheck the "Delete Index.dat Files" in the program's options. Success!

Hopefully CCleaner or IE8 will fix this problem with an update, so in the meantime, how do I clean my Index.dat files individually?

Thanks for the heads up pal. I've decided to take the plunge, and I like what I see. It doesn't look too different from IE7 on the surface, but I like it.

One thing I don't like though is the 'msfeedsync' thing that is always asking for permission to go through my firewall. I've always been distrustful of any Microsoft product that wants to dial out (or home), so naturally, I get a little annoyed every time I have to accept the request.

It seems a little illogical to me any how. I assume that 'msfeedsync' updates the RSS feeds or something like that. If thats the case, then why does IE8 have to repeatedly ask me if I want them updated? Surely, If I have linked to an RSS feed, then I would naturally want that feed updated automatically?

Argh... They still have not fixed the tabs thing. Everytime I open a new tab, it goes to the about:blank tab! ARGH!!! I want the new tab to show my damn home page!!! :grumpy:

I have Beta 2 installed at home and it's pretty good, though it's heavy. Much better than IE6 and IE7, now it's actually usable.

It will be interesting to see what Microsoft will do with IE9 now, as it was rumoured to come with Windows 7, however, that was when Windows 7 had a release date of 2010. Now that 7 is coming mid-09, and 8 is still in beta, maybe some features that were going to be in 9 will be released in 8 now instead in the final version.

(So many 7s, 8s and 9s in that post)

Oh and by the way, sorry I missed it before
