That would make for some interesting pictures if a driver was to drive to fast over the edge. :dopey:

And some sick air!:p

And some interesting in car recordings.
"Oh *beeeeeeeeeep* *crunch* *beep* *beep* *bleepety* *bleep*
Crasy Australians. :D

Every year someone goes over too fast. One year they had to apply a speed limit to the road just before the lip after one competitor was hospitalised with a fractured spine - he landed about 3/4 of the way down the slope. I'd hate to launch it the whole way down :scared:

Pfft. Rally drivers are such nancy-boys. Ski-jumpers do that all the time...

I've driven over it in a rally :D

It's not that bad, really. But last year Kevin Shaw in an Evo VII landed virtually at the bottom and had to retire. (I think this is what ^somebody^ is talking about)

I've seen plenty of footage of close calls, rollovers etc from the mineshaft.

omg! you serious? dam! how does the stage compare to the richard burns rally version?!?

The stages in Richard Burns are generic Canberra stages, that is, they are like the average roads you drive in Canberra but they're not copies of particular stages. But they do feel similar.

The Mineshaft in RBR is reasonably accurate in terms of looks but not in the way the car behaves over it, you never get THAT much air.

Here are some photos of the Kevin Shaw incident from 2004. The car was undamaged but Kevin was knocked unconscious when they landed. They were apparently doing 127km/h as they went over.

Hooooly smokes! he got some big air there!

Absolutely, he made a big misjudgment of speed. Generally if you go over at 95-100 km/h you're fine. You just get a bit of air and it's great. Any faster than that and you're taking your life into your hands. The spectators like it though :)

It's complicated by the fact that the approach to it is not straight, you come through a fast left, then over a crest, dip, then over the mineshaft. Plus it actually angles a bit to the left on the way down.

The view from the top:

yup, i've known about mineshaft for a long time :) i remember the 1st time i played rbr i took the jump at 140kph :scared: the landing wasnt too good for the suspension

Damn, anyone got a video of Kevin Shaw's crash?!

I'm not sure, I haven't seen one floating around.

The funny thing is that he he didn't actually crash. The car landed and somehow he made it around the next corner (which comes up pretty quickly) before pulling over.

The car was fine, Kevin was not.
