Just for fun, I associated them with existing car makes. How do these sound?FirebirdDon't know about car company names... I'd probably name it after myself.
Some model names I'd consider:
M5Power"Saint Pierre" sounds considerably better.![]()
skip0110Just for fun, I associated them with existing car makes. How do these sound?
Jeep Crusader
Dodge Tomahawk (well duh?)
Toyota Taiga
Subaru Bison
Dodge Defiant
Cheve Apache
Seat Orenda
Plymouth Arrow
Dodge Commander
Orage (huh?) (French for "storm")
AMC Goblin (he he)
Oldsmobile Auriga
Chevy Chronicle
Mare (well this one just doesnt work...) (I had intended it to be pronounced "MAH-ray": Latin for "sea". Dark areas of the moon were given Latin names for bodies of water, as they were originally thought to be bodies of water when the moon was studied in detail after the advent of the telescope. If you hadn't noticed a few of these names were from celestial bodies: Auriga and Orion are constellations, Vulcan was the name given to a 10th planet believed until the early 20th century by many astronomers to be between Mercury and the sun, and Io is one of Jupiter's moons.)
Pontiac Amazon
Hyundai Lena
Dodge Vulcan
Orion (this whould be a make not a model, I think)
Mercury Tampico
Kia Io
Volkswagen Miquelon (...if they can name a car Touareg)
FirebirdI was actually thinking of Miquelon Lakes, here in Alberta.

Commander, its been in many magazines. Wagoneer would be cool, and has that old school Jeep thing going on. But, since this is a whole new model, I think they want a whole new name, not to reuse an old one.FirebirdI keep hearing Wagoneer being kicked around as the name for this proposed soccer-mom's dream.
Why is it you think that just adding in more seats will make it bad offroad??? I guess it depends on what kind of offroading you do, but I don't think this thing will be that bad. I have a friend with a Z71 Tahoe with some suspension work and MTRs, and its just great for what we do offroad. I have no doubt in my mind, that if Jeep were to make a vehicle this size, it would be just as good for what we do. We don't go rock crawling, or anything hardcore like that. Mostly just cross country trail driving, mudholes, and some forest driving. Nothing crazy, but it's way more than what these new "SUV's" from some companys can handle. But, I've been out in just about every newer Jeep, and none have had any problems. Everything from a Liberty, to a Grand Cherokee with Quadra Drive, to my Rubi. None have any problems with what we do. Sure, I bet the Commander will be bought almost totally be people who don't care about going offroad. But, my fiance and I are getting to that point where more room would be nice. So, if Jeep makes a big thing like that, but we can still have fun with it, I'm all for it.FirebirdDo you honestly believe the addition of a third row of seating would still keep it even half-decent off-road?

You can give me theFirebirdMagazines...![]()
I'm sorry, are they supposed to build a new 7-passenger Wrangler???? As much as you might think so, not every vehicle that comes with "Jeep" on the front needs to be able to go rock crawling and climb mountains. If someone wants that, they can get a Wrangler, which most do. Yes, the car most certainly won't be a "hard-core" offroader. I doubt they intend it to be. They never said that the Grand Cherokee was going to conquer the world either. Its a nice mid-sized SUV that is very capable offroad. Thats it. The new Commander will be a nice full-sized SUV that will be very capable offroad. If you want to do the hard-core stuff, get a Wrangler.FirebirdWell, gee... the fact that a third row seats means a longer body, which means a worse breakover angle, and more than likely a long overhang out back ruining the departure angle.
It will probably have a lowered stance in order to satisfy the soccer moms. And you just KNOW it will have IFS...
It sure as hell won't make it better.
Well, a big 👎 back at ya then, ass. Look, I never said that I was a hard-core offroader. If you WOULD have read my whole post before judging me, you would have seen that. I just like to get out and have fun with my vehicles. I drive a stock Rubicon (my 5th Jeep I've owned), and its fine for me. My fiance has a 60th Aniv. Cherokee, and its fine for her. We don't go hard-core, but we like to have fun. Thats it. We just like to get out and drive in the muck and yuck around here on the trails and in the woods here in the midwest. I never claimed that I was conquering the Paris-Dakar. If you want to bag on me because I want a nice big vehicle that my fiance and I can still have fun in with the (future) family, fine. Just because my friends and I don't use our vehicles the same as you doesn't mean you are any better than us. Give it a rest.FirebirdThat's about as far as I had to read to know what you expected of this "Commander"... 👎
So what??? I don't need a vehicle to be super hard-core to have fun with it. Like I said, the extent of my offroading isn't hard-core, but its more than most of the cookie cutter SUVs are capable of.FirebirdI didn't say you're a terrible human being, just that you have very low expectations from an "off-roader".
So says you. Again, what I do offroad isn't anything hard-core. Sure, if I was building a car to go crawling out in Moab or something, it wouldn't be a Tahoe. But, around here, with what we do, having a slightly larger truck isn't a penalty. The Tahoe my friend has isn't stock, but its far from crazy. Mild lift and some big MTR's, thats it. But, its great for what we do.FirebirdA Tahoe is not a very good one.
Its called 'Brand Loyalty" to most people. I'm sure I could get some other vehicle, and be perfectly content with it in 95% of the situations it gets in. But, I've had not one problem with any Jeep vehicle I've ever owned when it comes to my driving offroad. That can't be said for some other vehicles that some other friends have brought with us on trips. Jeeps just blend the right ammount of mechanical equipment and the right proportions to be just that much better offroad than most other SUVs. So, if they come out with a bigger SUV, I'm all about it. I'm sorry my offroading standards are "Low" according to you. But, we aren't all alike. You drive what you want, I'll drive what I want.FirebirdBut why buy a big Jeep? It will surely be craptastic offroad, so you might as well get a Durango, which should be pretty much the same thing under the skin.
