If you had to kill off one video game series in favor of bringing back another, what would it be?

Kill Need For Speed - The series is tired and has completely run out of ideas trying to please both old-fashioned Hot Pursuit traditionalists and toxic Underground kids.

Bring back Burnout - The series is desperate for a proper comeback and not a cut-and-paste asset flip like Dangerous Driving is. Revenge is one of the greatest games of all time and could really do with a full successor.

Sadly I think the days of games like burnout are long gone. Everyone wants licensed cars and/or realism (or perceived realism).

Also would bring back the stealth genre and would bin all these battle royale games. Man you used to have the hitman, deus ex and all sorts. Now its all fortnite and warzone etc. I know what i would rather play.
Let's not forget though, this thread is about replacing one series with another, not entire genres. ;)

Kill F1 and allow all the other sim devs access to the intellectual property.
Kill NASCAR Heat and allow all the other sim devs access to the intellectual property.
I missed this, but while this is not a bad idea at all, it's not quite what my thread is about.
3. Actually answer both. Don’t make posts consisting of what you want killed off without saying what you want brought back and don’t make posts saying what you want brought back without telling what you want killed off in favor of it.

@Sonygamer455 I'm sorry, but I have to even though I know full well it's entirely fruitless...

So Forza is the reason for pCARS 3 looking and feeling like a mobile game? Very interesting, indeed.

okay, maybe not "kill" Forza because I appreciate all the racing games. but I feel Pcars was bullied by Forza's popularity and decided to apply the "if you can't beat em, join them" theory. so we got pcars3 a failed Forza imposter. but I guess your right, I should have read the context of the thread, sry.

Kill off Last of Us and bring back Jak & Daxter.
Kill off Grid and bring back Project Gotham Racing.

Disney's Split Second. I actually played thru this twice... once on Xbox and once on PC.

Like the fact its published by a Disney, it feels like a big movie production.

I also played a bit of Ridge Racer 6? 7? on ps3 xbox360 and the excreble Ridge Racer Unbound and really dont miss it at all.

Since we were talking about it and it's on my mind, send Ace Combat spiraling to the ground in flames and fuel up Combat Flight Simulator for takeoff.

yep this ^^^

but EA's US Navy Fighters and the rest.

If we're including the Jane's library I'm hearing your argument. Could potentially concede an either/or.

Also, if I'm allowed another pair in a different genre, MX vs ATV for Motocross Madness, including Armadillo. Yes, I know MVA sort of sprung from MCM with Rainbow Studios but they clearly lost the plot along the line.

okay I got a good one, kill Pcars and bring back TDU, hahaha gotcha!!!
upgrade driving physics and 'shadow of the leaves' graphics and 'boom!' TDU3. WE will have a simulator where we could race, open world side missions and cruises, walk around the garage in your mansion or yacht and tune/glamor at your cars while listening to awesome soundtracks, or travel to a casino on a secluded island and play online poker, aaaand, you could go 'ALL IN' by betting the car you drove in with.

@Sonygamer455 great thread!

I'd kill Project CARS for Ridge Racer Type 4 2: The Sequel. Seems like lots of people are keen to kill Project CARS, how strange...

Another would be to kill everything Konami makes (do they even make anything now? But the implication being that they go out of business and sell off their IPs) to bring Metal Gear back, but maybe not Metal Gear Solid specifically as that was all wrapped up. Maybe a spin off where you play as The Boss, or an entirely different cast set in the same universe.

If I can do one more: kill Rainbow Six as it is today to bring back the good old days of Rainbow Six 3.

Existence of GRID and PCars just doesnt make sense. There are premium simcade racers in form of Forza and GT, so what for we need another simcades with same gameplay, less content and worse overall quality?

IMO, Codmasters should shutdown PCARS/GRID and make something unique instead - realistic open world driving game, for example(ETS with cars).

Sad to say, but if AC7 was the best they could come up with for a comeback, I think I agree in killing it. What I would bring back would be Sky Odyssey. :) I've been wanting a new flight sim adventure game like that; I've considered InnerSpace but it didn't review well.

PCARS2 is one of the most realistic sims around; that is a fact. PCARS3 arguably remains more realistic than GT or Forza -- there is some give-and-take. They really don't have the same gameplay -- PCARS2 runs race weekends (up to full-length races) through championships like a PC sim, PCARS3 progress is based on objectives instead of wins. Project CARS is known for its extraordinary track list and uncommon selection of vintage racecars; not having as many cars as a GT or Forza game is no reason to dismiss that.

Worse quality I'll give you, no doubt about it. But it's worth noting you are comparing a relatively small decentralized team to first-party juggernauts.

You and I have the same dream. :) I'm crossing my fingers against all odds that TDU: Solar Crown could be anywhere near as hardcore as the latest WRC titles by Kylotonn.

If I were to pick a franchise, I probably would prefer to kill off The Crew in order to bring back Project Gotham Racing. There were many things I liked about The Crew games such as the car selection, the big map, and gameplay styles. However, the game still suffers from issues like being an online focused game (which really ruins the core gameplay for me when it requires an internet connection), a horrendous economy, bad arcade physics and controls (still having to shift with bumpers and horrendous weight transfer with the cars).

I honestly could see myself enjoying a modern Project Gotham Racing game over that game. Sure, I wouldn't have free roam, but I can live without that if the core gameplay is focused. Especially if the game expanded on the locations used in a hypothetical PGR5 like Bizzare Creations has done in the past. The arcade physics were fantastic, the cars did slide around, but they always felt controllable and were grounded. I could really shift the cars around and have fun with them. Not to mention the amazing car sounds used in PGR4. Oh god how I miss this series.

Kill off - Gran Turismo - its run its course as an off line, casual racing game.
Bring Back - Jet Set Willy - the concept had loads of untapped mileage left in it.

I am not sure I understand what you're saying here. Are you saying you want Split Second brought back? I don't even know where you're going with the Ridge Racer part.

I think i'd gladly get rid of gta in order for bully to come back..

The experience is something i miss because it's unique, unlike a usual sandbox game.

This is literally my exact answer down to the bolded.

I agree with the physics, even though they weren't the most realistic they felt reasonable enough where I could picture a F50 GT being hard to control vs the Enzo being noticeably easier.

The sounds were the best that i've heard in a racing game to date with only Forza Motorsport 4/3 coming close; and for me personally accurate and aggressive sounds *If the car sounds aggressive IRL* is a huge part of the immersion. When I drive the F50 GT, F1 LM, Panoz GTR-1 or CLK-GTR .etc I feel like i'm actually driving aggressive high-powered Hypercars.

A good example is the DBR9 in GT Sport and PGR4, even though it's pretty accurate in GT Sport, it has no intake sound in GT Sport and 60% of the aggressiveness is gone, that's something that worries me about GT7 tbh that all the cars will sound too soft and muted.

The Project Gotham series really could've worked if they created a 5 or even if they remastered it for PS5/XBOX and increased the grid count from 8 to 16 that alone would make the game even more entertaining considering there is countless options as far as free race mode goes.

Let me piggyback this and kill off Ace Combat to bring Wings Over Vietnam back. While it was considered sim lite, pushing it to the middle ground would be great for today’s market.

Hmmm... well the Far Cry seems to have run it's course several times over, or they've at least gotten stuck on making variations of Far Cry 3 again and again so that can go. How about making some new TimeSplitters games, time traveling aliens messing up history has pretty much limitless potential for settings and story, and a comedy focus is something that seems to be lacking in shooters these days.

I would gladly kill iRacing so that Automodelista can come back. I just want some ultra-arcadey physics and cel-shaded graphics over tryhard sim-racing and "realism" that gets dated quickly.

I would also kill RaceRoom Racing experience to get some Initial D Arcade Stage or Wangan Midnight Maxi Tune home ports. R3E's business model is bait for potential whales and is overpriced for content that is years out-of-date. They also hold exclusive licenses for DTM and WTCC/WTCR which limit interest in the series and race categories. It would be enjoyable to have some simple fun. Unrealistic, but fun.
