Now's time too play fantasy garage!!!!, basically they have to be race cars, and you have too name the race series you would enter the particular car in.

Here's my list from April 2010:

AUDI R15 TDI (LMS/Le Mans 24 Hours LMP1)

RED BULL RB6 (F1)

AUDI A4 DTM (DTM)

CHEVROLET CRUZE (British Touring Car Championship)

SAUBER-MERCEDES C9 (Historic GROUP C/GTP)

Now for my new 2011 list:

F1: In-house built chassis, Red Bull Rear end deal like the "Malaysian" Lotus :), That or Cosworth engine. Drivers: Anthony Davidson & Kamui Kobayashi.

DTM: Considering last season I'll switch to Mercedes. Drivers: Mika Hakkinen out of retirement & Gary Paffet

Le Mans: Keep up to date by getting 2 new R18's and keeping them in just Carbon Fibre like the pics we have at the moment. Drivers: Frank Beila, Tom Kristensen & Ben Collins, Guy Smith, Allan McNish & Valentino Rossi For publicity.

BTCC: I'll keep the chevy's : Drivers: Jason Plato & Colin Turkington.

GP2: The C9 is no more :/ So I'll buy 2 New spec GP2 Cars. Drivers: Jean-Eric Vergne & Felipe Nasr.
Now for your turn. ( This year you have to state your 2 ( 3 per car at enduro's like Le Mans) drivers.)

And Just for a laugh what would you name your team? Mine shall be called "Lotus 3.0" just to make the naming scandal that more intresting! :)

Volkswagen Jetta TDI (Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup)
Alfa Romero 8C (historic races)
Ferrari 250 GTO (historic races)
Spend the rest on the hauler, shop, tools, supplies, crew, mascots.

I'd design my own car. and make five of those cars.

Nissan V8 Powered spaceframe Superstock (Speedway in NZ)

Nick Chesters V8 Holden (NZGT) ultimate V8 supercar

Toyota Tacuma Trophy Truck (SCORE)

Jaguar XKR (GT2)

Buckley/Synergy V8 Midget (USAC)

I like your thinking! Lets begin then! I have two lists, one for wanting to win NOW, and the other for the over time investment to develop a monster of a racing car. Mainly because I like to do different things, and because I'm crazy like that. :scared:

Winning NOW! (I can only think of 4):

LMP2: HPD-01c

GT1: Lamborghini Murcielago LP-670 SV-R

SCCA World Challenge GT: Louts Exige 300RR (Seen in Super GT and Sepang 12 Hours)

Touring Cars: Seat Leon TDi

Winning Later:

LMP1: Lavaggi LS1 (Judd/Rebellion Engine)

LMP2: Lucchini LMP2-08 (HPD Engine)

F1: Toyota TF110

GT: A Future GT1 Car. Spyker C8 Alieron would Suffice

Rally Car: Proton Satria Neo S2000

Hmm, interesting idea.
Formula 1: Sign a chassis-supply partnership deal with Lola, Cosworth engines.
WRC/IRC: Ford Fiesta S2000
GT: Jaguar XKR GT2
LMP1: Using my existing partnership with Lola, B08/60 with Aston Martin engines.
BTCC/WTCC: Ford Focus ST

My drivers:
F1: Nick Heidfeld and Luca Filippi
WRC/IRC: Ken Block/Stéphane Sarrazin
GT: Jan Magnussen, Darren Turner and David Brabham.

:D

Lotus 49: Historic F1

I'd design my own car. and make five of those cars.

actualy its what f1 should be like no rules as long as its safe design whatever car you like

Life 190 (W12) - Historic F1
FPR Ford Falcon - V8 Supercars
Ford Fiesta S2000 - WRC/IRC
Porsche RS Spyder - Le Mans/LMP2
Seat Leon Touring Car - BTCC/WTCC

I would start up my own racing team to take young drivers and bring them up through the ranks.
1. Junior rotax go kart ('s)
2. Formula renault race cars.
3. Formula 3 race cars
4. formula gp2 race car
5. formula 1 race car.

I would be able to take young talented race drivers and take them through the ranks and have a team in each teir.

Peugeot 908 HDi FAP - Stephan Sarrazin, Anthony Davidson, Jean-Christophe Boullion

Dynamics/Honda Racing S2000 Civic- Drivers- James Thompson, Mat Jackson, Yvan Muller

Renault R30- Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica (with Nicolas Prost as reserve)

2011 Citroen DS3-R- In readiness for the 2011 WRC- Seb Loeb, Petter Solberg

Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2- Rob Bell, Darren Turner, Ryan Sharp

I'd design my own car. and make five of those cars.

This for sure. Or I'd just be like Ecclestone and buy an entire race series.

^ You could buy A1GP for £10 Million.

Skoda Octavia - btcc
Skoda Fabia s2000 - wrc
Holden Coupe 60 - various GT championships
Mitsubish Lancer Evolution VII RS - Various Time Attack Championships.
Skoda Octavia WRC - Rally Cross/Hill climbs

Nah! Maybe I would start our own GTplanet Academy and then figure out what racing series to join in with the GTPlanet Academy winners. 💡

Koenigsegg CCGT - FIA GT
Volvo C30 Touring Car - WTCC
Chevrolet Impala SS Stock Car - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Chevrolet Silverado Stock Car - Nascar Camping World Truck Series
Chevrolet Cobalt Pro Stock - NHRA Pro Stock Eliminator

You'd be wasting your money on the CCGT, they only made one and it was underdeveloped, now it's not even eligible any more.

Chevrolet Impala COT-NASCAR Sprint Cup Series(X3)
Chevrolet Impala-Nascar Nationwide Series(X2)

That way I can have the ideal number of Sprint Cup cars and a couple development rides.

Aston Martin DBR9
Mazda 787B
Raybrig HSV-010
Mazda RX-7 RE-Amemiya '10
Brawn F1 car '09

GC8 Subaru Impreza (Rally America)
Pratt & Miller Corvette ZR1 GT2(ALMS/Le mans 24hr)
Mercedes-Benz W196 Type Monza (Historic/Vintage F1)
Nissan R35 GTR (Super GT)
Trophy Truck (Off Road/Baja)

Five Honda HSV-010s to have on hand... With some Acura (Monster Energy and Valvoline) backing... run a one car team with a little support from the American Honda Company... have 4 back ups at the ready... plus spare parts a plenty... a hauler... two drivers. Hmm... Graham Rahal (give him something to race) and Robby Gordon (new challenge for him!) would be my choices. And go rock the Super GT in Japan with the first All-American Team and Drivers to win the Championship ever. --- Randy

If you were a billionare who started a race team, which 5 cars would you purchase?

RED BULL RB6 (F1)

This would be a bit of a problem because there's always rule changes from season to season. I haven't brushed up on changes for 2011, but I'd say the RB6 likely wouldn't quite comply. Even if it technically did, it's a fair bet that it wouldn't be competitive enough with the 2011 cars, because the teams always innovate and improve with every passing year, meaning that all the 2011 cars will outperform the 2010 cars, including the RB6. I suppose you might be able to take the fight to Lotus, but they're improving for 2011 as well and it remains to be seen by how much.

So, if you want to be competitive for a new F1 season, you have to start from scratch building a car specifically for that season without just recycling an old car from a previous season. To be half-way competitive means spending similar fortunes designing and building your new F1 car, which means spending $125 to $225 million (US dollars) just for your engines for just that year, and total budgets in the ballpark of $400 million just for that one season, and just for the car. Then you need a driver, and unless you're going to take on a newbie pay driver you're again looking at millions of quid just for someone to get it around the track for you.

So, all that was largely just nitpicking the notion of taking the 2010 RB6 to compete in F1 in a future season, but also it's illustrating how just getting an F1 car for a single season would have consumed half of the hypothetical billion dollars we have here, before ever touching anything else.

Just being analytical here. Not trying to be some sort of an ass.

EDIT:
Ah, you're from the UK. I take that to mean that by "billionare" we mean a billion British pounds. That gets us about 50% or so farther, as that would be a little over $1.5 billion US dollars. That helps a bit.

Considering he posted that back in April, I think its fair to assume he was referring to the present, not the future, which was 2010.

F1 budgets are around $200-300 million for one season with a top team, thats a budget for the whole team, not just for the car. There are additional costs if you are a new team and have to buy new facilities, etc, but a billionaire could more than afford the initial payments. Whether you want to continue into the future is another issue which requires sponsorship, results and luck.

Engine supply deals do not cost "$125 to 225 million", thats utter rubbish. A Coswoth supply deal for one season is about $5.5 million.

Your going to need a lot more than a billion if you are going to jump into a two car operation in F1.

A billion is plenty...

1. Chevy Silverado for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Would give me scope for moving up to the Nationwide and Sprint Series...

2. Citroen DS3 WRC - New look WRC, get a car by a make with a proven track record. Also cheaper.

3. Toyota Avensis BTCC car with NGTC engine. Good, stable platform, cost effective engine with good performance levels.

4. Audi R18 - Expensive? Yes. Fast and probably a winner? Yes. Worth it? Yes.

5. And I'd buy out Superleague Formula and relaunch A1GP.

I would not start a team, however, thinking about it a bit. I'd start an F1 team. I'd hire KY as a driver, but I'd give him comfort soft tires. :)
