Never !!
I'm very interested in astronomy and am thinking of getting a telescope. Since I don't have any experience in telescopes I need some help on what a novice like me should be buying. I'm looking to buy in the area of £75, so can anyone help me with this astronomical problem. I look forward to reading your replys.

Ignorance is bliss in this situation, though. You'd be much happier not knowing the prices of excellent telescopes. You'd think they'd be cheap, being just tubes with mirrors and lenses, but they aren't. I don't know of any cheap ones, but I know they're expensive. This reply is really geared towards your title.

btw, Ignorance IS bliss. always. read (my quote in my profile)

All I want is something I can see the deep field with  But seriously can I get anything solid for around said price, or would it be a waste of time?

I was toying with the idea of getting a scope a few months ago. Basically the bigger the appeture (diameter of the lens), the better the viewing field and the clearer the detail. As important as the telescope is the place you are going to do the star gazing - if light pollution is going to be a problem, you are going to have problems, no matter how grand the scope.

For 75 pounds, I dont you will get much more then a hobbyists scope that can see the moon details and pick up the nearer planets as fuzzy blobs. Quality Casgerian and Dobsonian scopes start at about $250 - $400, excluding additional lenses etc.

Unfortunately, you get what you pay for ;)

Thanks for the info, alas I live in London where light pollution is rife. In an ideal stargazing world, I'd have to be a rich boy living in the country. Damn.
