Yeah I was thinking of getting it, its only £29.99 most places.

Proper dog fights. Ace combat and hawx was just firing missiles for miles away.

I'm also thinking about buying the game. Think i will wait, until someone reviews it from here before i pick it up though.

P.S. My all time favorite airplane, is the P51 D Mustang!!!! Beautiful looking airplane!!!:)👍👍

I'll definetly consider it... I've been dying for a new joystick for PC flying games, and since this works for both the PC and PS3, sounds like a great buy. I have one of them Microsoft Sidewinder II joysticks. Great buy more than 10 years ago.

Yes I'm in, loved the earlier renditions on the PC and have been following news of this for some time. Looks to be a prety compitent sim with historical ties to get away from the bomb, dogfight, escort, repeat gameplay.

Bit of a write up on the Demo, It's the 360 one as the PS3 demo dosn't hit till this thursday. First up you get 2 campaighns and 3 training missions. Do the training missions first as this unlocks the realistic and simulation modes for the missions! the 2 missions are battle of britain over dover in the spitfires taking down bombers and the second is the P51 mustangs at the battle of the bulge hunting tanks and trains in the snow.
I played through everything in around 2 hours but theres loads of scope to better your score and ranking and playing in sim mode is a handful for anyone.
Right the all important physics.........yep, they didn't lie, this is a sim! and suprisingly they managed to make it work on the pad, though a flight stick will be better suited as you have to have a very light tough. The 2 aircraft available feel distinctly different and are weighty in feel. All the usual stalls and flat spins are in place along with blackouts if pulling too much G.....you have to go some to do this though, theres even an option to bail out if your wings fall off LOL. I had a play with the P51 got it to just over 25,000feet before it got too slugish and nearly pulled the wings of at well over 350 knots LOL
Moveing on quickly, the graphics are superb, I only hope the PS3 version hasn't been poorly done as the 360 version is smooth as silk even with the sky filled with smoke and dozens of planes buzzing around. When you get up close to the ground it really is spectacular the amount of detail there is. In sim mode theres no hud or "target identifiers" what you see out the cockpit is what you have to work with, so your glad of the level of detail when your scouring forest clearings at 170 knots at tree top level looking for tiger tanks!
Ok combat, it's not your modern "lock on, fire and forget" you have to get up close and personal and shoot the buggers down! and with the AI being fans of getting down as low as possible you'll have follow them! absaloutly fantastic as the usual "turn in ever decreasing circles" combat of other flight games is replaced with hopping over hedges and snaking down riverbeds along with putting your throttle to "WEP" and gunning for the nearest cloud for cover!
Overall impresions? well I do think this will be a bit of a hit! the arcade mode allows for the novice to fly like an ace and the sim mode will have you sucked into the sheer deph of the game imidiatly, coupled with some great physics "first proper flight sim on a console" and fantastic graphics this has somthing for everyone. I'm a bit curious as to how the online team battles work now as well, with the right maps (which are HUGE in the demo) this could be it's trump card.

Oh yeah and yes you do have to land at the airfield on the first mission!

Final word, this sounds a bit fanboy rant, but I'm a big fan of this on the PC and I'm glad to say it's been ported beautifuly. If you have a 360 go try the demo, if not you'll have to wait till thursday....I'm just hoping the PS3 version hasn't suffered "development issues"

I don't know, I played the demo on the PS3 last night and didn't particularly like it. Maybe it's me, but I feel that certain games will never be better on a gaming console than on a PC, and flight sims are one of those in my opinion. I was a big fan of Microsoft's combat flight simulator 98, so I've played these kind of games. The sound on that game was superb.

I always wanted a flying game on PS3. So I tryed the demo and found it to be pretty fun.

I think ill wait to buy it unto it becomes a litle cheaper though.

There is so many good games coming out in the next few months. and I already have 5 or 6 games i havent completed yet.

Tried the PS3 demo myself last night, hmm not sure if it's as good as the 360 one? Graphicly it's got some extra effects on it, smoke looks more...."smokey"........ but it dsn't feel quite as fluid in it's movement, I'm not completly sure as the difference is miniscule, but the game has a more gritty look and feel to it. I only grabed a quick go yesterday so I'll go try it some more. The problem is in simulation mode with no radar or target identifiers it's much harder to spot targets. You could say however the 360 version looks more clean nd sterile where the PS3 looks more dirty and realistic......Dosn't really matter though the physics are the same on each.
The 360 pad though seems better suited initialy but play with he aileron and elivator settings to get a better control feel with the pad, I'll go dig out my flight sstick and see how it feels with that.
Finaly you HAVE to do the 3 training missions....this unlocks realistic and simulator modes in the demo, then you need to select them on mission start. It gives you arcade mode by default otherwise which is very misrepresentertave of how the game is desighned to be played.

I've tried this on the PS3 and it's now added to my must get list of games. It's a long time since I enjoyed crashing into the ground so much. :sly:

I don't have an Xbox360 so I can't compare the two versions.

To repeat the above post. Do the training missions first.

Oh yeah and for a laugh pause the game and you'll see a "bail out" option self explanitory realy LOL

One thing I did notice on the PS3 version, the "cross winds" and the need to trim the plane acordingly was much more in evidence than the 360 version?

I'm trying not to compare the 2 as I'm coming accross as a fanboy!

The games good, on both systems it's just theres a noticable difference in looks, I have to say if your into flight sims this is your only real option on the consoles, and luckily it's a good option!

Oh and the landing phase on the 1'st mission is great, none of this black tarmack runway stuff and ILS ....the air field is just that....a field and as with the whole game your flying by the seat of your pants LOL

You can alter the sensitivity in the options, do agree with you though the stock settings are a little too twitchy. Also if you pause the game and go through the controler settings it tells you which specific flight controlers are suported.

I'm just downloading this. I have to see if my trustworthy old Logitech stick will be enough. :D and who knows, if it's good enough, maybe I'll buy it.

I want to download this but I'm afraid I'm near our monthly download limit, with Dirt 2, Batman Dark Asylum and Supercar Challenge Beta all in one month, I'm sure that IL-2 would just be too much, I will download it next month though! This game looks too good to miss.

bah, Logitech can't be used. it requires thrustmaster.. and the controls are odd compared to the logical ones in Ace Combat and H.A.W.X... and.. the difficulty levels.. well, let's just say that IL2 BoP is far away from the likes of CFS3 realism-wise.

Your ISP will tell you how much you've used.

It's not CFS3.....by a long way, it is 60+ year old planes though, yolk, ruder pedals, flaps and a triger.........Seat of your pants as they say. Playing with the pad is like flying RC planes, the smallest input is all you need and with no huge resistance on the PS3 pads sticks it takes some getting use to. worth it when you do though.

I must be missing something but isn't that just what makes up the CFS3 experience?

Oops thought you ment the modern combat flight sim, I know the one you mean now, I prefare IL2, on the PC , though your never going to get a truley complex PC sim say such as B52 to work an a console, the market audience is to restrictive and most would buy the PC for the control method anyway. IL2 works well however at giving an "arcade" mode which is accessable to non flight sim fanatics but still gives them the feel of flight and then allows them to "ramp" up the experience with realistic and simulator modes.

On Simulation mode the only aid you have is your eyes, radio coms and a map......coupled with the very detailed graphics and the physics this leads to a very involveing experience, especialy on the second ground attack mission.
Again this is only a 2 mission demo which supplys you with 2 preset planes. The full version has in the order of around 42 aircraft each being able to be used with custom load loadouts.

funny thing is, I prefer the CFS3 to this IL2.. for now. maybe the full game will be better?

OK I've got some uploading onto photobucket right now, it dose actualy save them in 1080p reserloution as well, I've taken a few quickly so there on arcade mode just to see how it works. Seems this is using the photomode system which was put into an earlier version of the XMB but this is the first game I know of that uses it. Very very impresive! Hope more games use it soon.

These are adsactly as I've saved them, only thing different is photobucket has reduced there size down from 1080p thus some of the detail is not as clear.

I'll go do a few more but take a little time with it.
