Illegal Street Racing: How Can we Minimalize It?

I'm 20, I would consider myself an illegal street racer. I've been driving 4 years, and I feel my skills are amateur-decent at best, but good enough to race on the highway/street. Yeah its wrong, yes I endanger the lives of people. But when I look at things I don't see it in that light. I'm always aware of those dangers, I'm prepared to take them, and as rediculous as its sounds, I don't think its possible for me to take anyone down along with me.

I guess I fit under the "I think I'm invincible" category. I've never been in a crash, and I've never been close to crashing into anyone at high speeds. I'm not exactly sure why you'd race on a street with streetlights and stop signs, but I do race on long roads you'd find in an "upstate" area where theres no lights or people with the exception of like someone walking along the side of the road.

I ride very fast on the highway too, but at like 2am-4am on those rare occasions when theres but 2 people on the road. I don't cut people off or anything like that. If you have to cut someone off its too crowded to race. The thing I don't understand is, why do people get into crashes into the first place? Its either a pure accident, or stupidity.

Why drive over a small bump at 120mph and fly into a tree? Are you stupid? Why would you EVER race if you don't fully know the area. As stupid as it sounds, if im going to race anywhere, I would want to be driving in that area at least 3-4months before I start pushing hard on it. I mean theres a limit to every turn, and every straight. How can you just not know that limit and start to race in that area?

I like to street race but only when I know im fully capable of racing "safely" in that area. By safely I mean where the chance of hitting a car or person is minimized as low as it can. Then again I have a honda del sol, so I can't go over 110mph... if im lucky with a good gust of wind... on a hill..

I know theres always that seemingly rare occasion where u hit oil you didn't see the day before, or ice, or water... or something but I mean if your taking the turns at YOUR limit, at a pace you KNOW you can handle, I see that risk as almost eliminated. If you race in close to isolated condiitions, there should be no reason to take anyone with you when you crash and kill yourself.

I would race on a track but I live in NYC and theres no areas near me, and I just always assumed I couldn't afford it even if there was a track by me. The closest track I know of is in Conneticut, and im not about to go all the way over there just to find out I can't afford it, or I can't race that day, or the track is just some giant oval I could fall asleep on as I reach lap 5. I'd rather just race on the highway or the streets late at night. I can't try to fight this thread and say street racing is right, and you should do it. But if you know what your doing, understand the limits of your car, yourself, and the terrain, I just don't see an accident happening.

But getting back to the actual topic at hand. There is no way to stop illegal street racing. You shouldn't try to stop street racing. You should just create places that make kids not want to race on the streets. Give them a track day to go all out on. Putting cops on the street can reduce the number of races, but in the end kids will just find a space to race. I know I will.

street racing... its not stopping i DRIFT don't worry about street racing if u drift keep it at the track! don't let it get the rep that street racing has! keep it clean thatsall i have to say

Going straight is for losers. Real street racers DRIFT! Man, if only the US had roundabouts, my mad tyte crew would be rippin em up 24/7 baby!

That has to be one one the stupidest things I've EVER heard ANYONE say.

People like yourself are the ones responsible for giving street racing a bad name.

Well... you topped your 1st paragraph idiocy, which I didn't think would happen for a couple years. You truly are a gifted individual.

2 of the best towns in central california for street racing rarely have ANY street races anymore except for the occasional couple people couple races and leave scenario.

The police just kept busting them and impounding cars until everyone quit coming back. Has anyone ever seen cops block off an industrial park and impound 300+ cars? Let me tell you, it's quite a sight to see. Both Stockton and Tracy have all but stopped racing due to the relentless effort of the police.

Well, first off, John, how long would it take you to reach Texas Motor Speedway?
Since, I have seen 2 SCCA races there, and 1 ALMS race in 2001.

Anyways, Garland has had not 2 or 3, but 5 street racing accidents. 2 of which were fatal, and made news coverage. I have been in Japan, and like you said about racing in the wee moring hours, that is...true. The street racers there actually care more about their car, and the safety. They know if they don't want to crash their car, they don't do stupid acts. Afterall, alot of them have spent over 60K on their cars.

I've nearly been hit while driving to school once by 2 people I actually knew in my school. And of course, they were gambling to see who could get their first. Sure, I've done a 100MPH, but not on the publics roads.

And the idea of donating your organs, excellent!!!

The only true street racers who don't do stupid things, are in Japan. I've met 2, talked to them, and heard they rarely race at all that much due to traffic that sometimes builds up in the early mornings. So far, every street race that has hit the news in US, that I've seen, is a fatal, or serious crash.

The 1 news broadcast I saw in Japan, was of 3 street racing cars who are wanted by the police. From what the 2 men told me, it has been quite a few years since they heard of fatal or serious street racing crash in their area of Tokyo.

What does this tell me?
The Japanese know what they're doing. There's more to just modding the car and racing to them unlike teens here. US teens need to either mod their cars for show, or just to look really cool (as if) NOT RACING LIKE SOME JEFF GORDON, OR JGTC DRIVER!

Sry, needed to say that.

And you'll conintue to think that untill it happens and you end up killing someone and get put in jail for it. 👍

So would u rather me jsut tell u im the best street racer alive and I'm so great and I carry NOS in the back to get that extra boost when I need it? I don't understand how its stupid to be honest. Or maybe you'd rather me race on the busy streets with parked cars on either side and stop signs I could just blow by. Think about it. Its better to race someplace quiet where you occasionally find those people walking along the dirt on the side of the road once every 2 months then anywhere else going god knows where in the pitch black darkness.

The dead people give street racing a bad name. Im not out to give street racers a good name, im just out to improve.

Great, California isn't the center of the world though. Maybe they do that there, but thats now how it works in New York. And I'm sure its not a lot of other places.

Great points there. I totally agree with you.

Just what makes you guys think that Japan doesnt have a high number of street racing accidents or deaths? I dont get it at all, just because they spend a lot of money on their cars doesnt make them any more intelligent or safe. Also - street racing accidents are rare and deaths are even more rare - unfortunately, usually it's pedestrians that end up getting the short end of the stick on that deal. Whenever I have engaged in said illegal activities (it has happened more than once), it's always been in areas where the only people around are participants and know the dangers of what they're doing, and accept the risks. That's how it should be, but some people don't know when to draw the line.

Cool. Let's also legalise murder, so that unlawful deaths are minimalised...

I think they should just open public tracks, that are free, and always open. I mean, they have uncontrolled public airports, and they build all kinds of parks and crap, why not some tracks? I think it would be possible to have all the scoring and timing gear set up and easy enough to use, as well.

That would be great but it could also be very expensive. Dangerous too if there are not trained medical staff around, if someone crashes badly they could be seriously injured and the council could be sued for alot.

here in winter haven there was these five teens in a red dodge neon that raced
a early integera from what i heard they where going extremly fast when a car pulled out in front of them the neon t-boned it and got deflected twords the curb when they hit the side of the intgera causing thier gas to leak then hit the curb
flew 40-50 feet then landed on a electrical transformer catching the leaking gas on fire then blowing up the car they where burnt so bad they had to be identifyed by their dental records and the integra swerved to keep from hitting the neon and hit a mcdonalds arch
i think this is the same crash drifter rx7 was talking about a while back in the race car or road car thread it will be him crashing sooner or later if he didn't already
i havent heard from him since may or june

i know i will be doing some stuff in public areas, i will be doing this in a vacant parking lot in the eirly hours of the morning away from people, but im sure mine and nd4spd's drift club, team oversteer will be near by incase something goes terribly wrong. i think street racing is stupid, but when your young and have a nice car, and someone challeges you to a race or me disgraced match, something takes over you and you must do it. like us canadians when you refuse to do something and the other person says to you" what are you, a pu$$y, you have to do it. or like a kid when you tell them not to do something and then they do it just because you said not to.

I dare you to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.

What? Are you a pu$$y?

It's dumbasses like yourself that cause accidents and kill bystanders. Enjoy your short life. Because if your stupid actions take the lives of any of my friends or family, I will surely kill you myself.

It's one thing to race someone and know what you are doing, it's a completely different thing to be pressured into doing something you wouldn't normally do. Often getting in over your head and seriously injuring or killing yourself and others.

Way to go idiot. 👍

Think before you leap, a little embarassment is much better than injuring someone, maybe yourself.

*Runs RX-7 into pole killing himself instantly while trying to drift....Maybe I should keep this stuff on the track. 💡 :dunce:

Actually i would die. if read my post i will be drifting, and in a area where there are no pedestrians, and one of the first things i am doing is making a roll cage, and if anyone gets injured its myself. I also know i wont be living long especially because of hart problems and cancer problems in my family and i am buying a car to drift in, i know i will compress my spine by the time i am 22 guarenteed. plus i might buy a kawasaki ninja, modifie it and do tricks(wheelies, indo's, etc), i know im not going to live long. i dont want to either i dont want to vegatate and have to wear diapers and have people take care of me.
a way we can try to prevent street racing is have a track open all the time. people who want to street race are not going to challenge some by saying " hey i am calling you out, i will meet you saturday at such and such drag strip at 11:30 am". when and if my shop get a good amount of money i will by a ugly peice of land, then build a drag strip and a replica of drift land thats in japan. and the cops couldnt say they are not allowed to do this because its illegal this would take place on private property. but it would be mandatory that they wear a helmet flame retardant suit just in-case, 5 point harness, and also had a roll cage for drifters.

Great, I'll lose another friend, by car accident......That makes it 3...or 4.

s13drifting
i know im not going to live long. i dont want to either .

Then get rid of yourself now..... not in a car but do somethin. Gun, carbon monoxide, cyanide, whatever. Instead of risking others safety just end it your damned self, so much better.

i am very religeos, and beleive suicide is the one un-forgivable sin. the reason i beleive that is because you cant pray for forgivness if you dead. and you people still are not reading my post. i clearly stated it would be in a parking lot in the wee hours of the morning with no one around that can get hurt, the only people that would be around is my team a good distance away just incase i flip or something so they can call 911.i am not stupid to do this around innocent people.

So basically, we'd stay off the streets, and do this in a controlled area in a large parking lot, with no one else around but your buddies a good distance away so they can't get hurt.

*On another note, how did this trun from a street racing topic to a drifting topic? Last time I checked they were different? :dunce:
