I would put it the easiest way to choose.

PC for gaming
MAC for everything else

Personally I wont be going back to PC only once Crysis comes out, and that PC will only be gaming ring nothing else. My MAC does everything I wanted it to do.

I think that sums it up really. Especially for the notebooks. I'd love a Macbook, but I couldn't live with the 64mb Intel graphics. If you're not hugely bothered about game performance, I expect most of the desktop ones would be fine (aside from the mini).

Hi guys just a quick question. I have two e-mails, and I hate having to log into them every time I want to check them, and also I would like to be notified instantly there is a message waiting for me. Is there a way of me setting up my BT/Yahoo and hotmail accounts up with Mail in OSX? im trying to find out but its proving hard, any help would be apreciated.

Last I checked, they are not POP3 accounts, and have no SMTP stuffs. Which means you can't route them to your mail client directly without some third party company fiddling with your mail. Which I wouldn't trust anyhow.

The private e-mail your ISP gives you though likely is a pop3 account, so you could use that... forward your email from Hotmail and Yahoo to there, and then have it notify you that way. Otherwise the only way I know to get live updates when mail shows up in your Hotmail and Yahoo accounts is to use a messaging client that checks their status... Trillian works for that (not sure if there is a version for Mac)

I kinda disagree on it being that simple. The PC offers alot more for home builders and people that like to tweak stuff.

I guess I think of it like this...

Mac = Lexus - complete package thats sleek and runs good. But as some people say, kinda soulless and tweaking it normally just ruins it.

PC = Project car - needs love, has some troubles at times, but when setup, completely dominates at what its setup for.

On the MacBook bit, I would get one if they offered the lower end entry models in Black. I hate how Apple makes Black the "elite" color. Especially considering how little is upgraded for the 400 bucks.

This is a simplistic view of operating systems to say the least. Macs have their place. So does linux, unix, sun, and, of course, windows.

I've had a couple of macs running OSX - not sure what the fuss is about.

Yeah, if they don’t support POP3 or IMAP, then you can’t configure them for any 3rd-party mail client. The best you can do is get a Gmail account (which does support POP), then have your other accounts forward to Gmail.

Thanks guys, I thought this may be the case, the ISP mail address is in my parents name. I may have a look into forwarding all my mail to a Gmail account, that would be cool. Adium doesn't let me know if my hotmail account has been buzzed, so i think this is the best option.

again thanks. 👍

edit, just had a look and aparently hotmail does support POP, but when I look for the settings I cant find them, weird.

Pidgin will give you email notifications of Yahoo, AIM, and MSN. Maybe more.

(Pidgin is the new name for Gaim)

Thanks, what I really want though is to be able to sync mail with the e-mails adresses so that It will collect my e-mils so I dont have to log into hotmail.

Managed to do it, finally got access to my hotmail and yahoo accnt in one simple way, use Thuderbird instead of mail, that way I can use the plugins to get my mail very cool.

You will need

Thunderbird LINK
Webmail LINK
Hotmail Plugin LINK

First install Thuderbird once done install webmail plugin (just like firefox) then the Hotmail plugin, once done follwo this tutorial and make sure the ports are correct I use 2001 for pop accnts and it works fine.

Ok guys instead of using a new thread for a quick question i thought i would post it here.

Do any of you use a .mac account? Im thinking about switching from my current space provider and host to a .mac account, now i know its a very expensive option, especially when i pay £60 for two years and its unlimited web space and free domain. but I think a .mac account would be a much nicer experience. any suggestions would be great and any hands on experience with a .mac account would be great too.
