Hey, I'd happily take $20 an hour, as at least for me, that would be fairly comfortable to live on. That would be a fair bit more than $30K a year, a pretty decent wage here in Grand Rapids (I believe the average wage in Ada, where I grew up was $36K per person). Personally, its what I'm shooting for after college (as a teacher, it should be wish granted), but obviously you always want to do better than that. Hell, I was excited enough when my boss said he was giving me a $0.50 raise (up to $9.00 now) earlier this week, so obviously my bar is set pretty low.

...A cousin of mine got her first job as a teacher for $42K a year in Hawaii, and while that wage sounds spectacular here in Michigan, that would be pretty low on Oahu. Living costs in certain parts of the country are just outrageous, and thats why I love my Mid-West, and of course the American South.

Still, $17 an hour to sell videogames seems great. I wish they'd do the same at the EB Games (now Game Stop) here in the US. A friend of mine was supposed to be getting a job there, and I want to say he was getting a bit more than $10 an hour for a part-time job. Not bad if you ask me, that is, as long as you're getting the hours that you want.

Being in college, I can't afford not to have a job, so I'm pretty happy with my $9 an hour and 30-35 hours a week at Steve and Barry's. I like my job, which is a pretty big bonus, much more that I like the people that I work with. It gives me enough money to live quite comfortably splitting living costs with my Mom (I still live at home... Being 20, its okay...), paying my own bills, and paying my way through college on my own.

So some of you that are currently enrolled in college have a part-time job that pays only around $10ph? Damn, that must be tough-going. I suspect there would be no way the average university student over here could live reasonably on that sort of money (basic necessities such as food and rent might be paid for, but not much else.

Most college students in the US live on Student Loans, so having a pretty basic part-time Job is a must on occasion. The difference with me is that I work nearly full-time, which isn't looked highly upon by my professors, who think I'm working too hard doing 14 credit hours at school and nearly full-time at work.

I end up making a little bit more than $12K a year, which is considered "poverty" in the United States, but living at home makes it a bit more bearable. Its enough to pay for school and other stuff, so I'm happy.

You're just now getting a job?

...

Oh, you're 15. Well ya look 30, mug!

Do you mean me?

My neighbor once went up to my dad and asked what college I went too and why i still rode my bike a lot. He thought i was 19

Save up for a car buddy. And save up further on. It worked for me, I have an $11,000 Dollar car that I am paying for myself right outta high school. Just stockpile that cash man, it helps.
