I am very, very excited. All my life I've wanted to go to Europe, and I'm finally going to be able to go there in a few weeks! We got a great deal to Paris, and will be staying there for 6 days. This being my first time to the city (and, well, even the continent!), I'm curious if there's anything you Europeans or world travelers would recommend for my trip. Is there anything that's a must-see, or something cool off-the-beaten track? Any recommendations for places to stay, or eat? I also want to spend a day or two outside of the city, to see a bit of the French countryside. Is there anything in a close vicinity of the city that would be good to see?

You should go see the Eiffel Tower.:p

I'm going to study there this summer. I'll also be going to Italy and Austria.

I am going to take over the world soon, so theoretically....

Hope you enjoy the trip. See the sights, eat at the eifel tower, visit some of the other towns (Paris isn't the only thing in France, After all). Maybe you could even take a bullet train to Monaco?

Ok. This is about the time where you should shut up.
(Um, I don't think this was necessary, don't you think. Lets keep it real-Misnblu, moderator)

Anyways, Congrats on your trip jordan!:) Make the best of it.

Have fun Jordan and we'll hold down the fort for ya while your gone.

Let me know of all the places you go to eat, I'd be interested to get your opinion on real French cooking. Oh, and one more thing, make sure you address all French people by the name of "Frog."

They love that. :D

"Hey you frog!"

Paris - the most overrated city on Earth. When the Europeans start waking up, they'll begin agreeing with me.

I'm going to London over Christmas with my girlfriend - you'd be well advised, Jordan, to ditch Paris after the second day (two days is really all one needs there) and take the Chunnel into the greatest city in Europe, London, for the remainder of the trip - until, of course, the return from Paris.

What makes you say that?

It's over-rated. Ask anybody. Visit for yourself and you'll see. Thing is, I love busy, compacted, everybody-everywhere cities (it's why I like New York so much) and Paris simply is not that. It's like Cleveland, with a bit more history. Easily takes a backseat to London considering European cities.

Enjoy yourself.

I'd visit the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, that glass Pyramid, the obelysk, and wherever Le Mans is located.

Here's another reason I hate Paris - of the five things listed here actually in Paris, four are on the same street within four miles of each other. Pah!

Wtf was that for?

Can't you take some jokes?

Lately, it seems the GTP veterans are being a bunch of arrogant asses :irked:

I know your post was directed to Curveball, but still chill out.

I suggest you visit Mont-St-Michel. It's the best tourist attraction ever, and if you want to see French countryside, it's the best place to go. http://www.normandy-tourism.org/gb/02ville/M/MtStMichel.html
Screw that! You should visit Fort Boyard, it's pretty boring, but it beats Tim's thing by about twelve times. Were you planning on renting a car? Because you're going to hate driving a Peugeot 406 around Paris. Although you might hate Parisien taxis even more.

Visit the Louvre, then catch a plane to Barcelona.

Have fun! And don't bother catching up on your French, they speak the Anglaish wery goodt uh. Non?

You have to go to The Crazy Horse that's for sure. If you don't, I'll loose all respect for you.

Kidding.

By all accounts, Paris is about the worst part of France, insofar as the natives are pretty damned unfriendly, in comparison with other areas.

Talentless's suggestion of Le Mans isn't too outrageous, as it's only 2 hours away. If you're going to be there on 9th November, it might be considered rude not to check out the 1000KM race they're having (www.lemans.org).

You may want to go see the Palace at Versailles, which is steeped in history.
