So there was a rumor going around that I'm going on (a much-needed) vacation, and it is completely true. I'm leaving on Sunday (the 24th) morning at 11AM, and will be showing up in Miami Beach around 3:30 PM. We're spending a week there, and we should be back in Grand Rapids by the following Sunday (the 1st) before 12 PM (I want to watch the French Grand Prix!).

Plans?

Not really. I love just being in Miami, and this is probably the last time I'm going to be able to go for a while (I hear we're selling the condo). I'm certain that I will be spending as much time as possible in South Beach, and I know for certain that I will be going "car shopping" at the local exotic dealers.

Renting a car?

Yes. We're probably getting a Ford Fusion, although the Chevrolet Impala often seems more likely. Oh, and I will be driving, which is a HOOT in Miami. We're definitely skipping the convertible this year, it was too hot, and the top was rarely down (other than at night).

Hotel?

Sort of. We've got a condo thingamajig with two bedrooms and a kitchen about half-way up Miami Beach. Its a decently nice place, but its the location I like best. We've got a Publix and a Wal-Greens fewer than three blocks away, and South Beach is fewer than five minutes away.

Any other good stuff?

We might go to Key West for a day. It all depends really. We haven't decided if we want to do the long drive or not. Although, it is an amazing drive...

===

So, I'm off to bed, and we'll see if I post in the morning or not. We have to be at the airport around 9-9:30 AM because of the stupid TSA rules, and I'm not a good morning person... Much less a flying person. It beats driving there, but I hate sitting in a tube for three hours between Cincinnati and Miami.

So, see you folks in a week. I know you'll miss my outstandingly pro-American postings in the Automotive forums, and my other outrageous whatevers anywhere else...

Ah..... Finally, we have something in common...... j/k

Florida sounds great. I hope you have a safe trip! :)

If you do go to the Keys don't forget to go all the way to mile marker 0, A1A. It's not a bad drive just watch the traffic, i would go on a weekday so the traffic would not be so bad.

I can't stand Miami Beach, but have a great vacation. You should have fun there.

I really enjoy the flights, 3 hours is nothing, but it does get annoying on international flights after 10+ hours are darkness and another 3-4 daylight of empty ocean.

I would love to go flying around to a vacation somewhere. I don't see how you would hate flying three hours from Cinci to Miami.

Have fun.

Ugh, don't even mention the part where you get a flight attendant who can't speak your language....

Free booze? Yeah RIGHT. Chips cost 3 bucks. Booze is even more ludicrous.

Southwest airlines FTW, lol.

The 3 hour flights are not bad. The only bad experience i've had with those was when there was an hour left, I had to go to the bathroom, and I was in the window seat with two sleeping people next to me :scared:

Longer flights suck. Orlando to san something california (I forgot which). It was like three different flights to get over there :irked:. On the trip back, the initial flight was delayed so when it landed, we had to sprint to get to the next one and made it just in time.

I don't really like Florida at all, but i guess i don't have much of a choice because im stuck living there :grumpy:. It's a bit hot for my taste, but you don't get the humidity so it's not as bad.

Hope you have a fun time in miami

LMFAO. Looks like you don't know Florida!

Well just be sure to party in the city where the heat is on all night on the beach till the break of dawn.

I hate flying and Tuesday night I have to sit on a plan for 7 hours, I'm not looking forward to that.

95 to 100 degrees and 95 to 100 per cent. Doesn't get much worse than that. After an afternoon rain shower it doesn't cool off, and you can see the water evaporating off the street, vapor just hangs for a foot or two above the pavement. No wind in those conditions, just standing outside will soak your clothes in sweat and mat your hair to your scalp.
Inland is not as bad usually, hot but lower humidity. Coastlines are muggy. Period.

@YSSMAN, was planning to be in Miami as well, visiting in-laws, but the trip fell through, probably not going till fall, now.

Sounds like Michigan weather. I've only ever been to Florida once and I can't remember the weather.

It's a bit of expensive, no-parking-for-hours fun, if you don't live there. I take people from out of town there once or twice a year, and they all say the same thing: Women in South Beach wear less clothing than anyone else at any other area of the United States, unless they're on a pole.

It was so hot on Sunday, I spontaneously combusted while mowing the lawn.

Miami Beach is full of tourists and douchebags too much of the time. Check out downtown Coral Gables. Go to Ben & Jerry's, i work there. ;)

Bingo!

Anyway, there used to be a rock radio station called 94.9 ZETA. Yssman would've spontaneously combusted.

YSS, I can imagine you looking like a fool in Miami.

If you're going to do the redneck look, do it. But make it a sophisticated redneck. Take some tips from Toby Keith, etc. Nice hair, straw hat, Aviators, goatee (gotta have the goatee), flannel button-up only buttoned halfway, visible and manly chest hair (but not too manly), lower than usual and form fitting (but not emo-tight) jeans, and kick-ass cowboy boots. There are chicks in Miami who dig getting spurred, btw.
