I heard that stupid "Welcome to Miami" song by Fresh Prince this morning; it couldn't be farther from the truth. I mean, everyone's got a hundred-thousand dollar car, right?

No, but everyone thinks they have a hundred-thousand-dollar car. :)

Well, I'm back!

Where to start?

Flights to Miami were stellar, if not a bit bumpy when we ran into weather down in Florida. The weather was surprisingly mild by comparison to Michigan, and actually was not bothersome at all upon arrival. It was freezing cold on the plane ride from Cincinnati to Miami, so I was quite happy that I made the choice of jeans and shoes on the way there. However, upon arrival, we did encounter our first hiccup: They were out of Fusions, so we got stuck with some luxury car;

The Lincoln Town Car "Signature" was actually a pretty nice ride to have for a change. It was perfect for the cruises through South Beach and up to Fort Lauderdale (to see some family members). Although, the stereo sucked, and I was disappointed there wasn't an iPod hookup.

You can see the excitement as I drive the Town Car through Miami traffic:

We averaged about 20-22 MPG all the way through the trip with the Town Car, which I thought was pretty good. We only had to fill-up once last week.

This was on the way back from a trip to the Lamborghini dealer, who were among some of the biggest douchebags I've ever met. They wouldn't let us take photos of their cars, which surprisingly was the exact opposite at another exotic dealer.

I didn't take a photo of the Hotel/Condo we stayed at, but it isn't really anything special. Its up on 71st and Collins (if you know the area) in Miami Beach, about a 10-15 minute drive from South Beach. Its not the best, but only paying $500 a year for a week in June isn't a bad deal.

We did take a drive through Downtown Miami on our way to The Collection, a hyper-exotic dealer network in Coral Gables. Here are two highlight photos:

That was my first time going all the way through Downtown, and I was really surprised by how nice it was. I'd easily rate it higher than Chicago (otherwise my favorite city) in some respects, but overall a bit too complicated in spots.

How about some random photos of South Beach?

(I like their food there)

A lot of hotels and bars would have cars parked outside, like this, to draw people in. There on Ocean, there was also an old Ford Model A, a '57 Chevrolet Bel-Air, and a Ferrari 360 used to bring the folks in.

Oh, short story, I'll start with the photos:

We went to Miami Ink, as my brother wanted to get another Tattoo (and I even considered one myself). But, much to our surprise, they were marking-up relatively minor tattoo jobs by $1000, and now my brother has devoted himself to the full hatred of the shop, and therefore, the show.

And one last ha-ha photo:

...At least I thought it was funny...

And, no surprise, the rest of my photos were of automobiles. So, you know where to find them...

Other than that, I can't complain. It was actually hotter up here in Michigan for most of my vacation, and a lot of the time down in Florida was quite nice. It really never went over 90 degrees unless we were talking about heat indexes, and by the end of the trip, the Gods had decided that rain was more important. I have a good video of how hard it rained a few days back that I will post later, which of course happened while we were shopping.

I'm very happy to be back, as I indeed missed writing on GTP.

Wow, that's mega lame. Those guy are a bunch of idiots anyway. Support your local artists; they probably do just as good a job or better.

I think that is what he is thinking now. He really wanted to get a tattoo done by Miami Ink though, so he was mad for a few days. He wanted to go back in just before we left just to see if one of the different guys would give him a different estimate, but weekend time in South Beach isn't a place where you want to spend too much time... Although we did, but that was mostly because the rain kept the tourists away.

Speaking of rain, here is the short video:

Needless to say, a storm went through. The whole city of South Beach was pretty much under a few inches of water by the time it was all over. The Police had to come through and close down a bunch of streets. In some places the water was high enough to bother the Town Car, smelling exhaust and such.

I've only ever seen rain storms that big up in Michigan, but then again, Hurricanes and such far overshadow what we get here...

As far as radio goes, I'm not sure what the joke is, but I guess I'll agree to it. It took us until Thurday to find a good one similar to what we have here. Otherwise it seemed like everything was one of those '80s/'90s/now stations, which tend to play more crap (Bow Wow, Marky Mark, and Fergie) than anything else. I think the station we stuck with was something like 93.1, a good alt/rock station.

===

As far as dress goes, it was mostly tee shirts, cargo shorts, and flip flops with aviator sunglasses. Nothing special, nothing really that different from home.

Although, I did spend a lot of time shopping at Armani Exchange, The Gap, Ralph Lauren, Guess, and The Gap. Between Armani (two shirts, $130) and The Collection (Porsche Racing Jacket, $130), I pretty much stopped there.

Some rain is no big deal, it's rained every day since I've been in England. Although it poured pretty good there.

And a Lincoln Towncar? They must have thought you looked like a retired pimp.

It rained REALLY hard yesterday. Usually, we get hour-long downpours, and that's it. Short-floods.

We forgot to warn YSSMAN that radio is quite bad here, unless you like modern hip-hop or A-dolt contemporary.

One advantage of the tall buildings/eyesores that have sprouted up around South Beach is that they block direct sunlight from frying you.

I was thinking awkward twenty-something Michigander with nothing but money to burn while driving around in an awkwardly large car (compared to a VW at home) with the A/C blasting, and two older women in the back seat.

Still, the fuel mileage wasn't bad. I can't complain about 20-22 MPG in what amounts to nearly bumper-to-bumper traffic on most-days.

Oh, and I attempted to do a burnout on more than on occasion, and she just wouldn't do it. Quite frankly, I was disappointed... And no, momentary chirps, or awkward body roll/slides don't count...

Yeah, the Miami Ink people are never really there, anyway.

Haha! I rented a hotel right in front of that Dunkin' Donuts after my prom. What a coincidence.

Oh and you listened to 93.1? For shame, it's awful. I usually use my iPod, and if not, i just search for some good pirate stations. There are a bunch. :)

We were clicking back and fourth between 93.1 (I thought that was the rock station?) and 97.9, but the majority of the time was spent with the radio off when we were driving around.

...Plus, when your in South Beach, you'd rather hear the cars anyway... Much like I did with the F430 Spyder.

Nope.

I don't even listen to radio anymore. When I do, I put it on 97.3 The Coast hoping for a Rick Roll.

man Florida is different then. There is a rock 101.1 in New Hampshire too (which i found quite convenient when moving :D) and I could listen to it well into Massachusetts and Maine. But then again, Florida is pretty big.

You understand, don't you, that radio stations and their frequencies are local to their immediate surroundings? They might be part of a network for news or morning shows, things of that nature, but the DJs and signal are local.

Asking if Miami gets Rock 101.1 is like asking if they get channel 6 TV. They may have a channel 6, but it's not the same folks as your channel 6.

I live in Eustis, a little above orlando, thats why i asked.

Now I'm confused. . . :)

But since you live in Florida, I'm wondering how come it's "different?"

And yes, it's big. If you take a map of Florida and a map of Texas, at the same scale, you can't put Florida completely inside Texas. Part of it sticks out somewhere. Pensacola is closer to Dallas than it is to Homestead. Panama City (my hometown) is closer to Houston than to Key West, and it takes 3 hours west-bound to get out of Florida from here.

As for radio, that medium has sucked since, well, as long as there's been radio. Doesn't matter where you are. As for range, an FM station generally has a 35 to 45 mile range from its tower. That would cover New Hampshire. As for radio in Miami, who cares? When I'm there, I'm visiting family, and I've got a carload of CDs. (I hate iPods.)

Hey now, we've got great modern rock, classic rock, and hip-hop/R&B stations here in Dayton. Cool DJs, especially on the modern rock station, and a good, wide selection of music.

There is a rock 101.1 (well, real rock 101.1) that broadcasts out of Orlando and there is a rock 101.1 that broadcasts out of Manchester New Hampshire (I think its Manchester). They are both managed by the same people.

Rock 101.1 (New Hampshire)
Real Rock 101.1 (Orlando)

I thought that it might reach Miami, so i asked if it reached there. Having lived in a small state my whole life, I usually had the same radio stations no matter where i went in the state. I thought that Orlando's rock 101.1 could be statewide, and then later in my post realized how big Florida really is.

How much does Miami Beach suck? Well, when you get back, all you'll talk about is the radio.

Thats funny. But I didn't bring it up...

Then again, Miami Beach isn't all that special (IMO) unless your in South Beach, which pretty much should be considered a completely different area anyways. Although, North Miami Beach really creeped me out, and with Trump building a new hotel down there (you can nearly see it in Fort Lauderdale), I'm sure the creepiness will only increase...

Did you come to Ft. Lauderdale too? There's plenty of cool stuff to see here, you know. We have gay people and you can see Geico Man on US1 and Broward Blvd.

I spent some time in Ft. Lauderdale. I have family that lives there (right on the ocean), so we did some visiting, and then we were forced to go to Mai Kai for dinner by Grandma.

...After seeing the bill, I'm not certain why it was so important...

Although, I did enjoy my Hawaiian Chicken.
