I'm still sort of new to gtplanet. Forgive me in advance if this isn't the right place to ask.

Well, I've been playing GT5 since it came out. I like playing, but I can't say I loved it since I've been playing with a DS3. I think it's time I stepped up and got a nice wheel.

I've never had or used a wheel before. I've had my eye on one of those Logitech Driving Force GTs, but I've seen several other wheels. Does anyone know what would be the best bang for the buck? I would like something not too expensive, but I also don't want to get a piece of junk.

Also, I understand that I may need a table to sit the wheel on, but I don't have one. So, while looking around Amazon, I came across one of these...

I have a nice armchair. Would this be a good deal, or should I maybe find an alternative? Thanks in advance.

Best bang for buck wheel is the Driving Force GT ... I just bought mine from Argos for £82 ... Easy enough to set up, you just have to find a very secure way to fasten the wheel (I have to weigh my make shift set up down with a 24 pack of Oasis to stop it moving lol!)

I have used a wheel before, but even still, the wheel now was not what I was expecting, I really suggest that you try and find a way to actually test out the wheel before you go and buy one and just make sure it is what you want. It took me a day of driving with it to start to like using it, but as it stands I wouldn't be too depressed about going back to a controller, so I'm not 100% sold on a wheel yet. Tbh, I think it is because the force feedback seems way over exaggerated at times, that might just be me though.

The DFGT has a good feel to it, the wheel is nice and doesn't feel cheap. The shifters are great, the paddles are perfectly positioned and the sequential gear stick is good aswell (maybe a bit sensitive but you get used to it). The pedals are great aswell, the brake is firmer than the throttle, but there is some resistance to both, so they feel very nice. The amount of extra throttle you get aswell is great, you don't have to faff about to find half or three quarter throttle.

The DFGT does make some noise though during steering, you don't notice it when racing unless you are turning it very fast whilst fighting the Force Feedback.

Other than that I can recommend the DFGT to you but you will have to persevere with it to get used to it :)

I wouldn't get that 'stand' - looks way too flimsy, no options for adjustments, and overpriced for what you're getting.

Spend a little more to get a quality product like a wheel stand pro or Xlerator stand (among others).

Thanks, guys. Looks like the DFGT may be the one.

That Wheel Stand Pro looks nice and it folds away, but it costs almost as much as the wheel. I checked out the alternatives. They look pretty nice.

The DFGT is a decent wheel & excellent value for money. You need a good mount for it though - a solid table will do, but don't get a poor quality stand. Honestly, if you're really into sim-racing, it's worth investing as much as you can afford - for sure you will get your money's worth out of it.

DFGT and Wheelstand Pro are great places to start, but don't ignore your seat, a good racing type seat will make all the difference.

I think if you are talking bang for buck, DFGT is hard to beat. I've had mine for more than a year and it's been a great performer.

It's true that the force feedback takes some getting used to, but remember, the goal here is to simulate driving a race car. Have you noticed how those guys sweat? When you first use it, there is a bit of a disconnect between the experience of using the wheel, and driving in real life. After a bit of use, really only a couple of days, you go through a sort of matrix style transformation and you just start driving cars. It's awesome.

I am starting to eye off the G27, because i'd really like a clutch, but they are in high demand at the moment and very pricey.

For a wheel selection I think it's about how much of a Sim fan you are? Casual or hardcore? If your just a casual gamer I think the DFGT would be perfect, but Hardcore go for a G25/27.

Oh, I'm just a plain old casual player. It looks like the DFGT will be it for me.

I'm going to wait a little bit until I get a little more cash, and maybe look around at some wheel stands. Also, classes are about to start again soon.

Casual Gamer! Look at your signature, I am level 12 and 17 (I think) respectively and I consider myself a casual gamer though I have a Fanatec wheel. I class it on the amount of time spent playing not what you play it on...

Yeah. I've had the game since it came out, and I've had a lot of time off. My winter break ends tomorrow, and I've been home since mid-December.

I'm letting B-spec take over until I get a wheel.
