Image Quality setting

Has anyone figured out what "Image Quality" does in the display options setting do?

There is "Normal," "Flicker Reduction," and "Sharpen."

What does what?

I was hoping the "sharpen" option will clear up some of the blurry cockpits, but it didn't, infact I did notice any change.

So no one knows? I put it on sharpen, i THINK it has less jaggies, but more screen tear and lower FPS. I can't be sure though without a capture card.

I played on normal. Then after reading this thread, i put it on sharpen. I have not noticed anything

Hope someone finds a way to measure it and gives us the ultimate answer!

I think it's likely to depend on your screen. Some TVs/monitors are naturally less sharp than others, some exhibit a slight flicker. The options in GT5 are merely to combat issues people sometimes experience when gaming with their setup, if you don't have them, you don't need the options.

I've tried messing with them but nothing fixes the visual problems like the stretched textures in cockpits or the horrible car shadows. :(

Over at AV Forums (UK) some folks are suggesting using Flicker Reduction and a lot of them are saying it's so much better they can't believe it's not the default setting.

They also suggest "Small Theatre" for sound settings if you have a 5.1 setup, rather than "Living Room", again saying it makes a huge difference.

I cant help messing around with the settings and I can definitely say Flicker Reduction has made a nice difference. It all just feels a tad smoother? Even though its meant to be running at 6ofps anyway???

Is there proof of this though because I can't notice a difference between the two at all. lol :D I just don't see ANY difference.

You may well be right.. Digitalfoundry have published their analysis and claim no difference at all.

Damn you placebo effect!!!!! Conned me again!!!

Sorry for the major bump, but in those links, it said it's supposed to improve SD image quality not HD....
