This is posted on the official Gran Turismo websitE:
Symptoms of the Issue:
1.
When Gran Turismo 6 is started, a message showing “A new update is available…version 1.03” appears

2.
When [OK] at the bottom of the screen is selected, a “Please Wait” message is displayed.

3.
After a while, the PlayStation 3 unit beeps a few times, and restarts automatically. A screen message saying that the unit was not shut down correctly during the last use will be displayed, and after a file system check, the restart is completed.

4.
When Gran Turismo 6 is started again, update to 1.03 has not been completed, and has to be started over from step 1.

Procedures to avoid this issue:
You can avoid the issue by pressing [OK] quickly in the first screen. When “A new update is available” is displayed, select [OK] quickly, within 2 seconds from when it is displayed. This will update the game properly.

If over 2 seconds have passed, select [Cancel], and select [Return] in the following Sign-In screen. After the game starts, exit the game using the PS button while in the [My Home] screen, and try the procedure described above.

Note:
In step “3” above, you’ll also receive a message “Report this problem to Sony Computer Entertainment?”. You can select either [Yes] or [No] to proceed.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

This has been posted in a few threads already, but I decided to make a seperate thread for it so people can see it easier. It triple-beeped for me around six times but this fix works!

There is another work around:

1) Sign out of PSN
2) Start GT6
3) Press O to cancel update
4) Once main menu loads, press the PS button and sign in to PSN
5) Accept update when prompted

This seems to work without issue, the problem only seems to occur when updating from outside the game

I had to delete the game data and reinstall the game.
And that's the second time as the game kept freezing when trying to load the seasonal'sa few days ago

Thank you for posting this. I was starting to think I was going to have to buy a new hdd and do some work on my PS3 before I got to play anything again. What an awful bug.

At least you don't have to uninstall the complete game data before patching, which I had in several games already.

Thank you very much for this solution. It saved the day.

But it is really really sloppy. First the problem with no sound for some cars (Peugeot 205 and Renault Clio in some races). And then this. In the software development world they tell you to 'eat your own dog food'. Meaning, you should use your own software the same way your users do.

So if you provide firmware updates via Sony, PD should've used this same procedure to update their test consoles.

On the other hand, Gran Turismo is one of the best selling titles of Sony, so Sony should've done some QC too.

However, thanks to the guy or girl who found this solution.

Thank you for posting this. I had 4 of the triple beep situations in a row, so it wasn't looking good. After trying the quick OK on the 5th try, it worked. Again thanks...

Cheers

Might be Sony's fault, seeing as they developed the patch system. It's probably a fault in the firmware which is entirely out of PD's reach.
It's funny how it is never PD's fault. When something goes wrong it is always Sony's fault or the user's fault.

How many of your other games crash the PS3 when they update? How many of your other games crash the PS3 at all? How many of GT5's updates contained bugs? How many of GT5's updates contained bugs that should have easily been caught such as not getting paid in online lobbies?

Thanks for posting the information about the workaround though. It does work.

Well, lets see, there's one map in Black Ops 2 that locks up my son's PS3 every time. FIFA 14 crashed his PS3 on an update (oddly, the GT6 update that crashed mine did not crash his).

So yeah, it is not just PD that has issues. Games a rather sloppy these days it seems. The ability to issue patches is both a good thing and a bad. It lets them fix things but I think it also makes them sloppy because they know they can just fix things later.

How many devs have any influence how updates are pushed out? Or are able to change the firmware? How many of GT5's updates contained bugs? (uhh?) How many of GT5's updates contained bugs that should have easily been caught such as not getting paid in online lobbies? (haha what?!)
Seriously,no offence, but it's kind of a dumb reaction on your part. The game obviously crashed on the PS3 update screen where PD has no influence in. And just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean that it's not Sony's fault. And what do bugs in GT5 has to do with absolutely ANYTHING?

The issue is caused by the start-up of the game. When the update 1.03 available screen pops up, the game still starts up like it usually would in the background, appearently interrupting this causes the game/PS3 to crash.

This is the way Sony programmed the update screen for any game though, which is pretty stupid actually, because leaving a program on startup, especially if it loads your save data the moment you accept the update, can corrupt your files.

Thanks for posting this. Tried the 2 seconds thing on mine and crashed it 3 times. Must be .002 seconds on my machine.👍

This worked first time.

% of Modded PS3's who crashed during this update??

I know i've brought this a lot when people mentions crashing. Why would my Unmodded fat would take the updates ok while my neighbor's ( e.g) who decide to upgrade his drive has all the issues in the world?

I have an non-modified Fat Boy 80gb, and it still had 4 triple beep situations with this last GT6 update... and that's after I did the PS3 update.

Cheers

I have an un-modded 120gb Slim that I bought brand new, and mine kept crashing, and it's a well known fact that historically different generations of the same playstation consoles behave differently to one another, so suggesting that all the people having issues are modders is ignorant at best.

just sayin' just sayin' i'm not doing more than that. I've had some triplr beeps too, I have to admit, but that is because I was doing something I wasn't supposed to do at the time. (like quitting the game while it's loading) but I know who caused it.

Had 4 attempts at updating with no luck. After reading this thread on the 5th attempt I tried doing it within 2 seconds and it appears to be updating now. Struggling to understand why the speed the user presses 'X' determines a successful or failure to patch. Very weird...

Thank you so much for posting this solution though!
