Last night, I was on MSN chattin to my mate, when all of a sudden, it just signed out and said the connection had been lost. I couldn't browse the web either. I thought it was my computer, until I talked with my mate again tonight, he told me that everyone else's internet had shutdown.

I talked with another mate, who also said his shut down too. I reckon this is pretty amazing that the internet in and around Brisbane (for all I know), could just simultaneously shut down. I'm just wondering if it happened anywhere else?

Since you're in the same city, one could bluntly assume a fault in one of the centrals..

Or that they're all using the same ISP.

I highly doubt that.

Sorry for being so 'omg omg' about it, but it isn't everyday that the internet 'breaks'....

Ehhh... Yes it is actually.... What are the chances of 1 single day where NOONE with an internet connection falls off ?....

Yeah, there was widespread outages across Australia a few nights ago from what I heard. I was affected too. Happens.

The UK keeps its internet's 'main brain' in a secret underwater bunker in the north sea, it also serves as backup for banks and the stock market information, basically the whole of the UK especially the financial system is routed through it..... if that fails then the whole of the UK's internet would break!

And surely the salt water would corrode the servers?

Yeah, sounds pretty secret.
Pah!

No. Remember, it’s a secret. The salt water doesn’t know the servers are there, so corrosion can’t occur.

It is true! it was on TV a while ago, I think on the working lunch programme at a time when there was a huge amount of hacking in that month, they showed the inside of it but ofcourse not the outside or the location but they did say its underwater offshore. The air is piped from the surface and most likely filtered, the survers are in one of those clean rooms with pure air anyway, all this stuff is cabled back to the uk with an underwater cable, althoguh probably most can be done by satelillet.

Its a secret in the sense that area 51 exists but we dont know exactly where it is... until daan enlightened us :sly:

We know where area 51 is. We just can't go there I mean it's a (free) country but they keep telling us what we can/can't do.

You mean the brain that would stop 12 year olds from logging onto forums and posting pictures of cats with pointless anicdotes? Suddenly it all make sense.
