Did you know the "Racing Quality" in online lobbies affects gameplay physics?

Changing the setting should have no effect on physics. Each individual PS3 console does its own physics calculations for its respective player/car. This info is then sent to the other PS3's to create the race.

The setting would effect how frequently information is synched between PS3's.

Yeah I'm aware of that. It's just that I am able to do faster lap times on the highest setting. It just feels way more grippy. So I don't think it's simply the information between cars and what their position is on the track, it has to be more than that.

The problem is that it is really hard to test, you need a bunch of people in your lobby and be able to do a few clean laps on both settings. It could also change when only 1 person in the lobby has a horrible connection. It took me about 3 hours to test, but I had different epople in my lobby every time. Next test will be done with a single group of people as soon as I can. :/ I would be happy to see some others try this and post their results.

Still, fact remains that almost 70% thinks it's only about the quality of the players, not the actual gameplay. Even if I'm horribly wrong, it would be great to see more people setting their lobby's up the right way - selecting the appropriate level of detail that their connection can handle.

No. Nobody thinks that. You just made a terrible poll. No one unless they are 5 thinks that gt5 has some magic setting that only lets 'good' or 'clean' players into the game. Why that is even in this poll of your is beyond me. And no, it has nothing to do with the physics either. All it is is the latency between players. Nothing more. Stop quoting your inaccurate poll as proof of your point. All your poll does is disprove your claims.

Not trying to be a bully, or mean. Just stating the facts.

Yeah, like I said before I think it's just about how smooth it looks. I'm thinking it's more like in GT5P where cars looked like they were just floating around the track instead of actually driving on them. Was playing against a few friends and one guy jacked up his whole left side suspension and everything. You could visually see his car leaning to the side, I'd imagine on low quality you wouldn't get all that as a spectator of that car. Something more along those lines.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PHYSICS.

As you said it's just the amount of detail sent between players. I dont care to see every degree of steering from my opponent. I'd rather have him be steady lag free than jump all over the place because of high quality.

Spot on, it doesn't change the physics model at all, just the amount of information sent between players & the frequency it's sent. If everyone in the room has slow connections, then setting it to Very High will cause lag (as will setting it too very low strangely), best just to stick to the recommended setting imo.

Earlier today I figured out that if Grip Reduction is set to Low, you will have far less traction than if it is set to Real, which applies to EITHER dry or wet pavement.

WRONG! You got that back to front, the Real setting will give less grip off track & on kerbs in the wet, that's why it's called Real, as in Realistic. The Low setting will lower the amount of realism hence giving you more grip.
