Don't think you can call it a "Miata" anymore. The chassis has been entirely changed...That is, unless that frame is just there to show off the drivetrain and isn't installed with a Miata body over it...

Are those MX-3 Precidia head lights? Great concept, just not a fan of the front, doesn't work well to me.

That a Flyin' Miata conversion? They make those turnkey now.

Might be using the V8 Roadsters kit, which is what we use.

Eh you know the purist and how they get, especially here. I'd love a V8 Miata, the Flyin' Miata place Jim mentioned will sell you an LS3 powered Miata, turn-key ready for about $30,000 it seems. You are probably getting better performance than a Vette for a lot less.

A lot better performance. Turn key cars are averaging between $30-35k.

DKX
That is pretty sweet. Granted, I'd probably need to modify the motor...

I think you could pretty much compare a V8 Miata to a Shelby/AC Cobra.

We use a GM Performance LS3, rated at 480hp. Don't think you'll need much more power. :) Oh, and about the Cobra, we've heard that several times. Except our cars actually handle.

It's been uglified.

+1 :yuck:

Thats a little expensive considering the price of the car and the engine (GM crate)

But that depends on the amount of work (and other parts, trans, diff etc) that goes into them and the model of the Miata.

haha are those drag radials on the blue Miata?

that thing is awesome, I really like the V8-into-everything approach that the LS-series has oppened up since it's introduction. Since it's light, modern and has an aftermarket support second inly to the traditional sbc, and it's also cheap as heck, everything from Miatas to M3s to whatever are getting LS power. there is almost no downside to the freaking thing, and the gfact that you can crank 500 hp with bolt-ons make it a sweet deal.

Heck, even Mexico is jumping on the bandwagon: I know of several 240 and 260 Z and at least one freaking-rare here 1st gen miata going over the conversion as well. without the aftermarket jump for this, swaps like this in Mexico should have been unheard of.

Price does NOT include the car. All of the parts used are brand new. All of the drivetrain comes straight from GM and includes a 2-year powertrain warranty. The motor itself I think is around $8k by itself. It's definitely not a stock LS3. Then you have labor time ($110/hr) added to that. Each car takes about two months to complete.

More crap econoboxes.

All of them on wheels that are the proper size, too.

Yeah way too expensive, you can buy a new Mustang V8 for that money or a 370Z.

$110USD per hour.. even top level tuners/builders here don't charge that in AUD (weaker dollar).

But I guess if there is a market for it, then all the best. 👍

Boo ****ing hoo, they tampered with the greatest poseur mobile ever :)

A poser car would be a Porsche or an Audi.. Or maybe a slammed whatchamacallit.. A Miata is enthusiasts car. There's a difference, you know. ;)

No, That would go to this...

"Look, ma! I paid Porsche Turbo money for a Carrera!"

Gotta disagree with you there I'm afraid. I've only ever seen two R8s here in Japan. The first one I ever saw, I spent a good few kms trying to catch up with it to see who was driving it. It was only until I had pulled right up along side it that I could see it was being driven by a woman. Its sleek profile and dark window tinting makes it quite a discrete place to be.

An MX5 on the other hand, especially with the roof down, is about as subtle as pulling your pants down in the middle of a shopping centre food court.

It's still a poseur's car. In fact, you're mentioning it's being driven by a woman (of course, she can be the world's best driver, I'm just playing on a stereotype here) proves his point :P

Says the guy with the slammed econobox :sly:

I was gonna say gayest car ever but I refrained from doing so, considiring the aforementioned turquoise gay (p)ride :)

I saw this a few days ago on Speedhunters - The Garage Ito/Pro stock R34 time attack challenger. This has to be one of the most serious R34 time attack cars ever made, and will most definitely be a serious threat to the records set by the HKS Evo at various tracks around the world. The chassis and suspension work on this car is just beyond belief   They're targeting a 53.110 at Tsukuba with this beast 👍

Get both of those cars out on the same track as one of these swaps and it'll be no contest. Every time you sit in one of these Miata's and fire it up, it instantly puts a smile on your face. 👍

We're right on par with a lot of shops in this country, even a bit cheaper than some. I know of a couple shops that are $150/hr. But for the quality work that our mechanic does on these, as well as the fun factor, it's worth every penny IMO.

Are you sure? They have similar plates, but not the same, and different front bumpers. One seems to have a BYS bumper while the other is factory.
It's super likely that he changed up all his parts and painted. The pic with the black wheels would be his old setup--note the white roll bar. It's painted body color in the other one. It's quite the makeover.

Actually the pics with the Spoon SW388's are new, they came out like, 3 weeks ago.

Well they haven't beat the HKS evo yet at Tsukuba, but that is their goal once the car hits the track 👍 The guy holding the board in the last picture shows the target times they're are trying to achieve at various tracks (53.110 @ Tsukuba & 1.42.110 @ Fuji).

I think this R34 has a good shot at beating the HKS car, as we've seen what the R34 platform is capable of in the hands of tuners like M-speed...and it looks like Garage Ito/Pro stock has taken things to another extreme with their chassis/suspension work

I'll be patiently waiting for news and video footage once this monster lays foot onto Tsukuba :)

I'm still waiting to see what the Revolution TA-2 RX7 will be capable of once they get things sorted out. It has a ton of potential, but so far hasn't put up anything too impressive (only 55.9 IIRC).
