I just noticed the datsun has temporary plates. How embarrassing. I'd never take proper photos until I got my regular plates on.

I just noticed the datsun has temporary plates.
Because it's temporarily in one piece. Temporarily actually running. Temporarily not a rust bucket. Temporarily not a junky car with a nice engine and a Grant steering wheel. A GRANT.

Was loving the Datsun until I got to the tach photo and I instantly knew I wasn't going to like the engine photo. But people can do what they wish, if that was my car it would still rev to 9k but with an SR20VE 20V under the hood.

I can't believe I have never come across that line of SRs (I remember seeing the neo vvl logo years ago.) Were they ever popular for tuning as apposed to maybe the SR20 from the S15 which had vvt without lift control?

EDIT:
Quick image search on google...

"Stock SR20VE head
Stock SR20DET block
GT3076R - 18-19psi
RC 1000cc injectors
ROM Tune
Mazworx VE Intake Manifold
Z32 MAF"

So apparently the heads are interchangeable kind of like miatas. Evidently they seem to be more popular with the road racing guys.

The SR20VE is very popular with the FWD SR crowd as it's an easy swap. Most of the tuners are low-key Nissan only shops so you don't see much out there for them, but they do have plenty of modifications available if you know where to look. Built motors have been known to put out around 230whp N/A on average, but a stock 170hp VE with bolt-ons and N1 cams is good for around 200whp.

The SR20VE 20V that I referred to above was only available in the 2001-2003 Nissan Primera and is rated at 204ps from Nissan. It's basically the K20 of the Nissan world. You want all out N/A performance from a Nissan 4-cylinder, you want that motor.

Regarding the VE head swap, that's the only way to get VVL in RWD platforms as I think the FWD block won't bolt into a RWD chassis. Mazworx is one of the shops that makes parts for the VE motors, they have an S15 tube chassis drag car using a VE head.

The Jag is stellar. I can just imagine a bunch of mafia guys stepping out with AKs like Grand Theft Auto or something.

Unless I'm mistaken they don't just hand out temporary plates at the DMV. Temp plates mean the car has just been registered. Either the car was non-op and unregistered until recently before those photos were taken or the car was simply bought by a person who has done nothing to the car and is simply showing off the work of the previous owner. It may very well be the former, but my mind always thinks the later.

Rare BBS RS? Are you kidding me? It's probably THE single most popular aftermarket wheel in the world, worn by 75% of VWs.

I think temp plates go well with the whole rusted rat look.
I'm not seeing this "whole rusted rat" look.

EDIT: I know in Virginia, you don't get temporary plates when registering a car, you just get normal plates right away. Temporary plates are only issued when buying a vehicle from a dealership, and are removed when the car gets registered. I don't know about other states, but if that Datsun was in Virginia, it would indeed be like Time Attack said where he just bought a car someone else built.

Rear end where the bumper would sit, rust. Front, under hood, hood jambs, bondo, chipped paint. Inside, bare metal, rusted/paint stained trans tunnel/floor. The paint is in not of the best shape all around.
Modern rat rod vibe.

Would you feel better if the word WHOLE wasn't there at all?

Modern rat rod vibe.
Bro that's not rat rod. That's just beat-ass old car. And it's not even very beat at that, it's just got some rough edges. It's actually gorgeous for what it is.

Rat rod:

Not a rat rod:

The 911 is just a piece of crap.

I know what a rat rod is, I guess I just couldn't think of the right words, so I called it a rusted rat.

 on the Jag. I almost didn't post it but I did anyways. It's big, slammed, and probably owned by a wealthy computer programmer being that it's in Japan.

On VE head swap

I has learned me a thing.

"If I'm looking at this correctly, this is how they achieved drive to the front wheels with a low-crankshaft height engine between the front wheels."

"The semi-automatic gearbox used in the Calibra was developed in coopeation with the Williams F1 team, using parts of their F1 gearbox/gear change system."

The Alfas went the conventional route of sticking the engine far forward enough to leave space for the front axles...

And it's next evolution...

Interesting place to stick the alternator.

I must have the intake off the benz on my scooby, that is sick!
Awesome pics btw, keep'em coming please!

You died and tried or you just read that online?
I've seen numerous instances where people make a huge deal about harnesses mounted like that, but I've seen numerous race cars with them mounted like that without issues. Takata corp says it's fine, but Sparco says it's not.

In general I've only heard griping about it from the autocrosser/grassroots racer types, hence the reason I made the comment that I did.

Sorry, I missed your []. I completely agree with you. Many racers mount like that and get out alive mostly without any stratches. Although it is true that bigger angle is better, I'm more about good fixation point. Hence the reason I installed them on a bar rather than the hooks.

I used hooks before without any problem. Just recently tried the cage type mounting.
