That's what I read as well, but the GE isn't as good with forced induction as the GTE and it's near impossible to make power while staying normally aspirated.

Saw one a few weeks ago around here with an LS2 swap... Probably the easiest way to go as far as bang for buck.

My buddy found a less expensive way to get turboed. He found a guy wanting to get rid of his, so they simply swapped drivetrains. He swapped in a GE with a stock head and turbo kit bolted to a Supra trans and Sequoia driveshaft. In the past it was dynoed at 450 whp with a stock head and 18 psi. Suppsedly it's good for 600 before headwork is required.

Word is the GE and GTE blocks are the same and internals are swappable. But the heads and intakes are completely different. The GE head actually has a better flowing exhaust side than the GTE, but the intake flow with the stock manifold isn't as good. Something like that anyway. With some headwork it'll still make similar power, 1000+.

Actually the 1 series doesn't seem to be very popular here. Its priced to close to the 3 series from what I understand. I had a brief conversation to one of the salesmen and he said he has only sold 3 1 series thusfar this year. I think the coupe is a very attractive car so I was a bit surprised by that.

There's also America's assbackward rejection of hatchback and wagons... wasn't the 1 series coupe created solely to get around this issue?

Ha, yes, that bothered me too, what could be decent informative photos ruined by a silly photoshop filter.

They'd always planned the coupe anyway, but I think it had always been BMW America's intentions to bring in the coupe and not the hatch. Took BMW long enough to build the coupe anyway, must have arrived four or five years after the hatch first came out.

1st : Yes and no. Not solely but the coupe has a lot more penetration in the US market than the hatch.
European car makers think the US will still reject all small cars.
That's why it takes a long time before certain models come to US if ever, depending on studies... (exemple : Audi A3. Only second generation was sold in the US, but the first gen was sold in latin America)


2nd: What bothers me more than the photoshop is the non VAG engine in a VW. A 2 TFSI or 2.5 TFSI could also output 600hp. But cool car nontheless

After watching the video, when did the UK become the US? Give me bad weather, thermos flasks and greasy spoons any day.

Heh. The amount of overcast shows I've been to I'm quite happy to accept a bit of sun and Americana.
 
OMG. Did Burroughs just invent a new style of digital photography? Can't say I've ever seen high-quality photos turned to GIFs in a style like that before. Very cool!

EDIT: Cinemagraphs. I looked a few of them up - they work better with a car than a person, that's for sure. Plus, the things he chose to be dynamic aren't directly related to the subject. The car in the background driving past is a constant, fluid motion that can loop endlessly without ever looking choppy or unnatural. Same goes for the blowing tree leaves and shimmering hood. The depth of field in the last picture is just as smooth and natural as if you did it with your eyes or a camera. He could even animate the door opening or the wheel turning because those things only move in a certain way - it's very awkward to see cinemagraphs of humans moving body parts because they look like robots. Eww, weird. But a simple movement that is supposed to move in a certain way would look great if it were animated.

Now that I look closer, his blowing tree leaves could use a little touching up. It needs to end on a frame that comes just before the first one, that way the loop is totally smooth.

I scrolled down to that first pic, & immediately thought, "Wait, did something just move?" Waited, & saw the cop car drive by.

That's a pretty badass, imo. 👍👍

There are much better ones out there than these, both regarding people or inanimate objects.

And Borroughs isn't going to ever event anything new. Period. He just understands enough about processing and such to make most things look good.
