dont forget that subaru engine note is very determinant on the exhaust manifold.
the 'thump-thump' that everyone recognises is lost when you change to equal length tubular headers. the note again changes with a decent 'down-pipe'
new zealand gets plenty of JDM spec STIs - i had a ver8 for a while, and my brother a ver9 - both with full exhausts from compressor back - sound nothing like a 'normal' impreza - a little more like whats on the game with a hard-tuned subie.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but the game is still letting down, for even in arcade mode it doesn't manage to reproduce that factory thumping...

Another major disappointment is the rally cars. They don't scream and crackle at all like they do in real life. But you know, I can live with all of that, it's still one of the best games for the PS2.

My brother had an Impreza RB5 (382 of 444) with the Prodrive Performance Pack (including full Prodrive exhaust) and currently has an Impreza WR1 (err... of 500) which kicks out more power than any other production Scooby (same as the Spec C). They do not sound like the ones in the game either.

But, as was said earlier, a combination of the PS2, your TV and some fudging to get the sounds in at all conspire to make the sounds "LIKE" the real cars, but not exactly like them. The TVR Griffith is a case in point - unless you've got speakers and a subwoofer capable of shifting some serious air it's only ever going to sound "LIKE" the real thing. The real thing destroys small villages if it drives through at anything over tickover revs...

guys correct me if im wrong , but didnt you seen the bonus dvd from the prolugue . they dont take sounds from the exhaust but from the engine room, im to dissepointing about the sound in gt4 but if you let the original muffler on it the it will be much closer to the real thing for some of the cars.
like the dude from rome said forza got the real sounds. i hope when the ps3 comes out and we got the new version the sounds will be better because i hate it to. there's nothing more to say i think for me

greetz guys

have you ever heard a racing impreza.
they dont sound like the ones you hear on the street, like the bass(y) growl. they are high ppitched and they sound exactly like they do in gt4
take a STi version 6 and fully mod it, and it will scream, tjhats what they sound like
The WRC Imprezas do not sound anything like the real ones.

The reason GT4 doesnt have the real life sounds is because the PS2 cannot produce them in real time, thats why you get the super sexy sounds of the engines in the intro movie, while not in game. While the Xbox can so Forza has the real life sounds. GT4 has the real sounds, but PS2 doesnt have the ability to produce them so they sound the way they do. PS3 will most definantly be able to produce them.

yeah , the rally ones are ****ed, but wrx will screa, at 9000rpm
the ones you see one the street prolly shift at 5000
so you are hearing about 2000rpm
geta guy with a wrx to rev it to like 8000/9000 and the tell me its a fake sound

A standard road WRX will explode at 8000-9000rpm. And anyone shifting at 5000rpm has rather missed the point of having a turbo.

Doesnt the real life impreza have those baffle things you can engage and disengage to make the engine sound louder or more civilised? Perhaps the folks at PD based the engine sound on the car with the baffles disengaged :dunce:
But then like someone said, the engine sounds never really have sounded just like the real thing so I dunno.

Yeah but couldn't that wear on the engine more than if you shift at 5000 RPM?

Couldn't what wear the engine more than shifting at 5,000rpm? Exploding? I'd reckon so.

Another thing that adds to the multi dimensions of sounds in a video game is the fact that you can have four(or more if using "Tuner" parts) different exhausts for most of the cars. That means, four different sounds, per car... And on top of that, in real life there are tons of minor differences in different exhaust systems and mufflers that will make a car sound different even though it's the same car.

I like the way the cars sound at low rpms with stock exhausts. Actually, the Audi A3 3.2 Quattro is a badass car and sounds dead sexy. I love it.

I have found and might be wrong that the best place to listen to a car is on the drag strip as the camera pans down before you blast off!
Thats when a scooby sounds like a scooby only in the low revs though. :)

Like someone said earlier, the sounds were recorded from inside the car. Meaning you'll hear alot more engine revs, instead of the muffler sound. But because they only recorded the inside sound, when viewing from behind, it doesn't sound like the real thing.
