This is something that I will not bring it to market here, is an affordable way to improve the immersion in the game, it is simply put a cover it is more likely that either black or gray PVC foam is a lightweight material and cheap, clean and very well insulated from outside of you so that you concentrate only on the screen.
the system is simply a strip of aluminum 3X30, but may be any other material, we can manipulate this action when either conform to our taste, and not expensive.
We set our monitors support, bend over and we monitor 2 M4-M5 holes to fasten PVC plate.
as you will see in the render, if only utilizais a monitor or TV, also want to put on the sides will find that after a while of playing will win in immersion and concentration, which will be translated into better times, I hope you like it.

Very intresting may i suggest Depron Foam comes in 6mm thickness sheets lightweight and black , love the idea. i use the stuff to build Rc airplanes

I always planned on putting a 'roof' on my rig for this reason but never got round to it as I struggled to find large enough sheets of foam board. This will spur me on to look again though :)

I thought of doing the same sort of idea, however I am running three 55" HDTV"s and it would require a massive amount of material. Another idea I had was to use dark curtains behind my TV"s. Also of note I set my TV"s at almost 75-80 degrees. The two side monitors act like doors and windows at my sides.

Covering the roof with a sheet of black felt-like material used in home theatre applications would be your best bet to reduce light reflection.

A much cheaper and simple solution would be to paint the wall behind the monitors black. This I was considering, now I plan on using Pro-coustix DFNDR professional wedge acoustic treatment foam tiles to help the neighbour from thinking that theirs a thunder storm every time I turn on the tactile.

The idea is kinda interesting but with bigger screens I think is less required as your FOV is filled both horizontally and vertically.

My own seat has head supports which is great in arranging the FOV to align with the screen edges. Just makes it possible to have no distractions and helps keep your focus in-game.

Done plenty of research for a long time and one company that utilises this overhead covering idea is VRX simulators.

Might inspire some of you...

I just turn my lights off. That is a cheap solution. I have though been thinking about buying some blackout blinds for the room too, but I don't play enough through the day to justify the price of them.

I would think on that VRX simulator the top is more for blocking light. Most of them cockpits are probably in a commercial setting with bright over head lighting. Not that it couldnt work as being suggested here, but I would guess that was its original purpose.

function of coverage, not just prevent glare, is that we do not see something we know not semueve and has no relation to the game.
reminds us that we are in our room, after a while you dive deeper into the game.
as to cover material can be anything, provided it has little reflection, the material I have recommended cheap, but as stated above, black velvet, even cardboard, etc. ..

The room my rig is in is fairly large, I would estimate it at about 13'6" x 28' and there are 2 windows. It is the rumpus room downstairs. I covered both windows and zero light gets in, I think a cover for me would act more like a tin top roof then keeping out glare.

There a few cheaper ways I could see about going about this without using alot of effort or changing the room itself. These ideas might be a big dumb but depending on budget might work.

Windows - they make a film to cover to keep out light that wouldn't be too $$ or even that hard to throw on (I think it requires a hair dryer is all).

If you have a rig or need walls your looking at to be black, what about poster board (the $1 or so in the craft sections) either taped or push pin to the wall. There are also those big tri fold poster boards for science fair projects that come to mine that could be cut to lay over the top of monitors. It might not be the prettiest but its a simple cheap solution til you find something that is better.

not about black paint the wall, or put blinds to remove brightness.
It is best to be at the same level as the monitors (same focal length), the material used does not matter, provided that mate, not reflective, and dark colors, black or dark gray are good.
but each to do what you want and try different options.

I think those of us that use projectors would certainly benefit more from a 'roof' as with the best will in the world..we'll always suffer from plenty of light leakage. Infact the more I think about it, the more I want to try some solutions sooner rather than later ;)

My gaming area is a in a corner of my living room. For the open sides i used a pair of old dark blue curtains we had from the french doors seperating my living room and screen porch.

Its nice since the curtains match the coloring already.

Easy way round this, ensure your walls are a dark colour, the ceiling too it will reduce reflections. Get the felt border tape for the outer of your screens. I found it actually does help if framing to enhance the image for your projector.

My room's dark enough but having a 'roof' would keep the projector light in and probably actually give a brighter image..and also even in a dark room, when racing you still know there's a room there beyond the screens..having a roof really should improve immersion and detract from the feeling of being in my dining room :D

Worth a go Steve, if you implement something keep us updated. Just remember not to burn too many dinners when your gaming... :)

An image just came to mind
"Oh ssssssss the oven!!!"

I think I may go do down the "Remco" idea but doing triple screens and with self housed rear projection. Well now that finally 1080p short throw 3D compatible projectors are available.

Have one coming soon...

Oh Latte, you never disappoint with your never ending trials... and errors.. lol
I check your site every now and then for significant updates/imagery ... but nothing!

There's no doubt you will have the most advanced audio/tactile rig on the planet though.
I hope you've been taking lots of pics and provide us with a 10 min time-laps video of your 3+ year "journey". That'd be really cool and would score plenty of YouTube hits without a doubt.

Hi mate. Well this isn't the thread regards the tactile.
Just to point out "Simology" is also not "my site" but the work of another appreciated and friendly member here. I am not trying to achieve maximum publicity. A new proper thread for actual building will come in the new year, again so many upgrades and changes were implemented this year but all I can say is the build will be all the more impressive come the end.

Trust me progress is moving but the "base platform" is a very important part of the build, with so much audio/tactile. Pictures of a huge wooden structure are not going to be that interesting...

Mind you it is now pre wired, insulated with "Fat Matt" and contains acoustic tiles. Last but not least it even has fancy LED lights underneath, woooo! :)

In terms of immersion, a lot of the solutions used for dedicated home theater are similar to what would work for a sim rig i.e. simply turning off all room lighting, then use heavy duty black-out curtains for windows.

The room may need some ambient lighting if it's really dark, as the glare from the displays would definitely cause eye strain (especially if you're only a couple of feet from the screens). For the average person using a wheel stand on a couch/sofa in a darkened room, bias lighting (installed behind the TV) would work well.
