I just bought Gran turismo 5. I am really disappointed with the in-view car: there is so many informations everywhere...

I just want the dashboard.

Is there a way to remove all the informations that are not in a normal cockpit view, like the timer, the track map, the informations on the left and right down corners ?

I hope so, I looked everywhere in the menu, can't fint it !

Sorry, as far as I am aware, there is no way to remove the HUD on GT5p.

No, there is noway of turning these off.

This has been discussed before. Search function is at the top of the screen.

I agree though. When I use to use the in-car view, the info was alittle annoying.

I wish the cockpit view was zoomed in more. The way it is now, it's like driving from the back seat.

Crap, in some cars you cant even see the sideview mirrors.
If it would be even more zoomed in you couldnt even see the steering wheel anymore and you dont want to tell that this would be realistic...

In the default view, no. But if you have a way to set the buttons to look left and right, then it's easier to see them.

Yeah i know and i didnt complain (in real life you also need to look left and right to really see the mirrors).
But the cam is definately not like youre sitting on the backseat, thats just plain wrong and also has nothing to do with an opinion.

No, it isn't wrong. Have you driven a real car...?

When I'm driving an actual car, I don't have more than half the steering wheel, the entire A-pillar and 3/4 of the dash in my line of sight. It's unrealistic.

So you want to tell me that this in my attachment would be more realistic and still playable?
Dont forget that the game cant simulate what you see from the corner of your eye unless you have a curved screen.
Everything you find unrealistic in the field of view automatically blurs out while playing. So zooming in like i did in the pic wouldnt make it more realistic, because it would take a way the peripheral view (i think thats the right term for it).

EDIT: Forgot the pic.

That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. That pic right there is much more realistic.

When you're driving at high speed, you're looking far off in the distance; you don't even see the steering wheel. To include so much of the interior is wasting a huge amount of screen in the game and makes the things you should actually be looking at much less clear.

I just took a pic from my car to illustrate what I'm talking about and the similarity to the pic you posted is uncanny (excuse the crappy iphone pic).

If you need to see to your right and left in the game, you can use the directional buttons.

The best solution really, would be the ability to custom zoom the cockpit view to your liking. I really hope GT5 will have that feature.

I don't know, there are many other racing games out there where I feel like the interior view is a lot further away than it is in GT5p. Just look at some screenshots of GRID or DIRT from codemasters....just one example. I've seen others as well where to me, the interior view is not too good. I like the interior view, but it's never really been a choice of mine, I'm more of a bumper cam type racer....however, if I ever want to use the interior view, GT5p is the one game I've been able to use it just fine without feeling like I can't see. So I'm going to have to agree G.T. Ace on this one, I think the interior camera is fine.

However, yes a custom zoom would be a good idea in order to suit everyone's tastes I guess.

@Apex: Great but wheres the peripheral view? You cant see anything out of the corner of your eye, thats just as unrealistic as it is now.
The rest is a matter of taste of course.

Another major problem I have with the cockpit view as it is now, THE GUAGES. In almost all the cars in the game, the tach is almost illegible. That, to me, is just stupid. I don't need to see the goddamn heater controls, I need to see if I'm at redline or not... And I don't want to have to look to the bottom right of the screen to use the dumb digital bar tach either.

Regarding peripheral view, my phone pic is much more square than what would be shown on screen. I think it would be enough peripheral view. But, again, they really should just let you set the zoom where you want it.

Isn't that why there's sound? You don't need to look at the tach, you should be able to hear when your car is at redline. Maybe not initially, but after a lap (or even less) you should.

I agree with you on the gauges, there are a couple cars with nice gauges but many of them are almost useless(M3 comes to mind) because they are so blurry and others look okay when you get the right light but most of the time they're in the shadows and impossible to see. And I must say that the cropped in car view from above looks much better and more to my liking. I would definitely like to see some options for zooming in on the cockpit view and even getting rid of some of the hud elements.

I must say you do have a point about the guages. It is nice to see them being functional, but if you can't read them, there almost isn't a point for it. Like I said, I don't use the interior view much, but for the many people who do, this might be kinda annoying at times.

I would have get rid of the steering wheel too... because I have a steering wheel in my hands when I 'm playing. I don't have problems to see gauges, maybe because of the HD TV I have in front of me ?

Well thats not a design choice, more a graphical problem (texture resolution).
But i have no big problem reading them and seeing when it redlines (1080p here) except for the F40, but i dont know how it is on the real one.

I agree though, better textures are always nice. ;)

Try playing on a bigger screen or with a more close one.

I play on a projected image of about 70" at 2 meters and the field of view is almost perfect, immersive as driving a real car.

Edit: I can read the gauges and use them without problem.

I have a pretty decent HD setup and the gauges are still too small and dark on many cars in the game. It sucks that I have to glance down and away from where I'm looking on the track to really see the where the needle is (and my eyesight is fine, BTW). They should be almost right in your line of sight when driving. And the main problem, again, is that the POV is like 5 feet/1.5 meters away, when in reality you're much closer to the dash. If you're going to have the gauges there, make them as USABLE as they are in real life.

Can't please everyone......

If they made the guages bigger and easier to read....wouldn't you then complain that its too unrealistic?

I've said it many times before and I will quite eagerly say it again:
Realism can only be portrayed so far in games, as has been mentioned, you don't have the peripheral vision that would make it truly realistic, so the game has to take concessions on certain elements of the simulation in order for it to be playable. Same goes for HUDs, guages, etc etc. All things put in the game to make up for the fact that you aren't actually in the car and can't move or talk to people or hear everything or feel everything.

Arguing about how realistic it should or should not be should really take into consideration that it is primarily a game, and not full blown simulator. Its not trying to simulate real life 100% accurately, but its certainly trying to get as close as possible without compromising the core gameplay elements and making the game too hard.
The flip side is that making certain elements more realistic in fact starts to make the game unrealistic, or at least feel or seem unrealistic because you don't have the same sensations to help you drive the car, so it becomes more difficult than real life.

Something as in Live For Speed would be ideal, you basically have complete control over the X,Y and Z axis, as well as pitch / zoom (field of view) etc for each car. You can even adjust how much the camera reacts to G forces in each axis.

It would just mean those who didn't care could leave it as normal, but those who want it differently could have it exactly as they wanted, like a very adjustable seat :)

Can't say I can see this ever being implemented though.

Bingo.

That's what i say. If the actual in-car gauges are too small, switch to bumper view. They're nice & big now! 💡

I feel you on that i just got my new 52 120hz 1080P samsung vs my old 27 olevia 1080i and its like playing two differnt games. The sense of speed, interior view, and graphics are now 100 times better. 👍

Yeah thanks genius, but the whole point of the cockpit view is for realism and feeling like you're IN the car. And when I'm in a car, the gauges aren't 5 or 6 feet away and I don't need to squint to see them.

Considering how exhaustive PD is about the detail in other aspects of the game, an adjustable in-car camera POV shouldn't be too much to ask for.

Yep, although I am happy with the default view I would like the option to move the seating and view position around a little.

As well as options to remove items from the HUD, like GT2 had.

The way my game is set up, my DFGT is right in front of the screen, of my tv, around 3 feet from my face, And lines up perfectly with the default wheels in the game, So when i am in car veiw, my feild of view is like it is in a real car, its a pretty cool setup, Looks like my wheel is in the dashboard of the car in the game. which always sucks me right into the gameplay, Also with the Bose acustic suround sound earbuds. Total emersion. So the hud dosent matter to me... i cant even really see it anymore.

Comon PD, make a small Patch. ON and OFF! Simple as that!

The more options the better ..........yer?

Also I think if your being distacted by HuD, then you need to focus more.

I use a 20" LCD monitor. The problem with the gauges isn't that they are too small. Most are blurry even at 1080p. Out of all the cars I drive regularly, the F430 has the clearest, sharpest tach. The Mustang's tach is not very usable.

I would like to see sharper gauges in GT5.
