On the whole, life is a chore, punctuated only by the knowledge that it could and should be so much more. The generalities of it are childish and downright insulting, primarily for the fact that though everything may be a struggle, and we accept that as inevitable and even strengthening, we should at least be permitted even a minor victory or two every now and again.
Or at least a break.
My answer: no.
Well, not to be rude, but who pissed in
your Corn Flakes™ this morning?
I find it interesting how you describe life, because it seems that your perception is what's degrading it, not life itself. Sure, there are a few problems – Life is sometimes unfair, life is sometimes stressful, life somtimes sucks. But for the most part, life is good.
For example, right now, I'm typing this on my lovely little iBook. To the right of me, about 2 feet, is our old beige G3. Both computers use thte same generation processor, yet just several years separating them makes a world of difference – My iBook's 4 times more powerful, weighs close to nothing compared to that clunky thing, is infinitely more portable, much prettier, and most importantly, allows me to do a lot more than I could do on the G3. That's progress, and that's what makes life so damn cool. Look at the skyscrapers that we can build in a few years that weren't even imaginable a century ago (which is a small slice of time on the grand scale of things). Look at the books sitting on your shelf, which can be mass-produced these days and are relatively cheap, yet had to painstakingly made using type block thingies a few centuries ago. Look at what you can do with your printer... you can take a paragraph of information that someone halfway across the globe typed up and posted, retrieve it in a matter of seconds, then print it out into a nice hard copy. Look at transportation – We've come a long way from horse-drawn carriages and airplanes that could go no faster than the first automobiles. Because of the progress humans have made, I'll be able to go to bed tonight in a nice, cozy, soft bed in a very well sheltered house, instead of sleeping on a cold rock that's a little less bumpy than my neighbor's.
There's so much great stuff to be thankful and grateful for, and it doesn't make sense to me to put a negative spin on everything. There are simply too many awesome things that happen to not be happy about it.
