So, I turned on the Spec 2.0 version of GT5, and immediately downloaded the new intro, I was gobsmacked. I know it's just eyecandy but man, I had shivers down my spine. I thought Forza had the best intro of a racing game ever but GT takes the biscuit here. 👍 And Forza's was incredible so I'm not sure what that makes Spec 2.0's.

Okay, flashy eyecandy aside, let's get into the game. I jump in my SLS stealth and head to cape ring, my favorite test track. As soon as I hit the track BAM it's loaded, in like 10 seconds flat at most. Once again, i'm astounded. Time to check the gameplay then. At first glance it seems the same, however, about half way through the lap, there is the corner I usually feel like i'm gliding through...its not there any more, instead my heavy piece of racing beauty is alive, I can feel the movement of it's body even through the DS3 and it feels firmly rooted to the ground. Once again, i'm loving this. So next, I come up to the Jump that CR is infamous for, i'm use to the car landing gently almost like a child going to bed...not any more. The car seems to slam the ground and I feel the force of landing, something which wasn't present before.

So, that's the moment Spec 2.0 had me in it's grasp, even after buying F1 2010 No more than a week ago I can see this eating up all my time. Well done PD 👍

Oh and how did I follow this up? Going an hour into the 4 hour enduro at the Nurburgring driving the New GT-R. :sly:

Glad to see you have the love back :)

I still Play GT pretty much everyday but spec2 has improved it so I'm not planning to leave anytime soon :)

That's a perfect example of what Spec 2 really brought. People may look at the contents of Spec 2 and say it's not impressive. Well, that's not the case at all. Physics update did a lot to make the driving feel more connected. Two words alone made driving more fun and challenging - Improved Physics.

Everything that came in Spec 2 just improved GT5 by a lot, according to me and Chariots0fFire, and priesty_lfc. Sadly, not for that other guy that said he was leaving GT5 for good (I only read the thread title).

The thing I liked the most was that we finally got faster cars for the online shuffle races.

The AI tenacity option has really improved things for me.
I didn't realise it was there but putting it up to 10 seems to have given me some great side by side racing.
Find myself coming 4th and 5th in a lot of races instead of finishing 1st most of the time.

Replay controls are welcome too.

I hope in the future we are able to hand pick the cars we want to race against.
That, and some occasional new tracks would be a big step forward.

Looks like there is a chance this game will slowly and steadily improve.

I know some people were hoping for a stealth GT5.8 or something. I knew it would just be changes here and there, but those changes are so darn nice! This and forthcoming DLC bodes well for what GT5 can grow into, a good game getting even... gooder.

The Formula GT race with new cockpit (and everything else!) is simply good quality fun.
I picked up the "other game" and had to go back to GT5 after an hour of use. The quality, feel, graphics, steering wheel implementation all feels so natural and organic.
All open cockpit cars seem like immature premiums now, and I like the dark silhouette cockpit views on the other standards. It creates, and frames the racetrack as the focal point, no harm there!
👍👍👍 to 2.0:)

Never stoped lovin it! :D

I haven't noticed the physics after spec 2.0 because I just played like 2 hrs after I downloaded it. But still for me, GT5 is the best racing console game, I've never played forza before although I heard some good things about it and I'm not going to buy XBOX to give it a try, GT5 is not perfect, everything is not perfect actually but I'm happy with GT5 and PD have my support forever

Glad to see i'm not the only one who is admiring the awesomeness. :D

Great impressions mate. F1 2010? you should have gotten 2011 mate such an improvement:)

Well, y'see I was pretty skint at the time. I had none of my student money put in my account at the time so I had to settle for the next best thing. :ouch:

ahhh gotcha. thats cool man 2010 was a great return for the franchise.

Over the last year ive been pretty disapointed with GT5. Ill go on for 30mins every now and again. But since this upgrade ive found myself enjoying it more.

If someone had told me they were introducing a blacked out cockpit i would of held my head in my hands....but it works. Really suprised and pleased about that feature.

Finally a good and positive thread! :) I'm soooooooo tired with all that complaining!

This, I fell like I got another 800 cars man. The way the black out cockpit outline mimic's is counterpart, and move while you driving makes me sometimes forget they are all blacked out. 👍

I'm a ds3 user too and that's what i've noticed first. I can feel more weight, in a good way.

I havent played GT5 since March because I got real bored of it. I have been following the news of the game though and despite losing a PS3 and my save game, I started all over last night and I was having a blast with not only the new features and physics but the much more rewarding prizes. All I could think of when starting a game was the Indy grind days. Now I can't wait to get home from work and race. The standard cockpit makes a huge difference for such a small addition.

Glad to see many people happy with GT5 spec 2 as well.
To anyone who gets bored with GT5, I'd say play online with people you know. It's unbeatable.

I'm loving it, too. 👍

I was worried about the physics changes and whether I was going to have to adjust all of my tunes, but I hopped online and proceeded to win my first 3 races for a Spec II hat trick. :)

One thing though, I wish we had the option to sort the online lobby by Shuffle servers. I like Shuffle racing and especially the new improvements, but I thought they were adding it as a Sort option in Spec II? I may be wrong, but either way, Spec II for hte win!!!11!1! 👍

sooooooooooooo the game feels better with a pad then. You do realise that any feeling from a dual shock 3 is fudged right? No one drives cars with joypads.

But ontopic, Spec 2 HAS brought me back to GT5. Aspec still sucks monkey balls, but I took the Yellowbird on the Nurbs, alone (so yeah it loaded quick....but the loading is still damn slow for a grid of 12 cars), at 6.30pm. Time speed set to 10, tyres set to "real", fuel and tyre wear on and had a damn good blast with my G25, no abs and no TCS. Silhouette view was nicely done, never had so much fun spinning out. <--hang on....I'm supposed to be a "hater" arn't I?

I just WISH PD would give us some of those options for ASPEC. (plus qualifying and standing starts) I want GT5 to be MORE than just a good hotlapping game.

I have a DFGT, the point is the feel was still better with a pad. Nobody drives Cars with our fake little steering wheels either, it's purely to make the game more fun. :D

You don't generally get much choice other than to race cars with controllers (we have two SixAxis and one DS3) when your $300 Driving Force GT slowly stops working properly and plays up all the time. ;)

Like the steering wheel losing its 'straight ahead' position after a big countersteer. Suddenly, to make the car go forward you end up having to turn the wheel 90 degrees left or right, or one time (when i finally gave up and packed it away) i even had to have the wheel turned 180 degrees (i.e. upside down) to make the car go in a straight line...

Not sure if anyone else has this prob, or if its because of our cat who likes chewing cables.

Anywho despite my Forza 4 arriving today hopefully, i've not been anticipating playing it as much as i have been to play GT5, even before Spec II/DLC etc was announced (my PS3 got YLOD, so i sent it away to be replaced - so haven't played GT5 for a while now).

It's the 'GT magic' at work again - there's just something about the game that keeps me playing it (like how i played GT2, GT3 and GT4 for well over a year each time).

I do really like the Forza games too, so i haven't wasted my money buying them (have all but Forza 1).

It's good to see someone else who can like both series as much I do instead of urgently bashing the another one 👍

I have all but FM4 so far, mine copy appears at Friday, hopefully

GT5 has taken most time from racing games and I wont quit it even I am getting FM4, I like to compare cars found in both
like example

how close 2 cars comes in both games, like having Mercedes & BMW
which one is faster, and are they similar to each other in another game aswell etc.

Although PS3 supports pretty much all the wheels out there. Majority of player use DS3. The tweaked physics obviously has impact on DS3 as well

Thanks, it was impossible to realize that before this post.

Spec II just guaranteed 50-60 hours of gameplay to me with the Endurance Race save. When it's all said and done, I'll put more time into GT5 then GT4, and that's saying something!

It's amazing what such a simple addition to the game can add! 👍

I still wish we had the option of turning the A-Spec race over to the B-spec driver at 3X speed, like in GT4. I just can't see myself driving a 24 hour race alone, even with saves. I loved that a 24 hour race could be completed in 8 hours.

Actually, the saving would just tie my PS3 up for multiple days anyway. :D
