Adelaide, South Australia has made a record today.

Previous Max. ever was 44.6 Deg Celcius in 1968

New Record. 28 Jan 2009. 3:31pm (local time) 45.7 Deg. Celcius :ouch:

Considering our Average is 29 Deg. Celcius. Man it is HOT!.

It does not help, when your job requires you to to deliver 70 Units of electronic equipment at a weight of 15Kgs each.

Extremley Thirsty Work. I have drunk four litres of water, and I think I lost 10 litres of fluid. Cant wait to get home.

I'm glad i'm not in SA or VIC right now. Last weekend in NSW, where i live it got to 43C. I think i'd die if it got any hotter than that. I feel really sorry for you guys.

I am in SA, I have been out in it today, wasn't too bad considering.

Death Valley was much worse, it was 50C+ once when I was there.

I read something in the National Geographic shop saying that the highest recorded temperature in Australia was in 1880 something and it got to 53C! That would've been so hot without air con.

Actual record was in 1939 with a max of 46.1 Deg Celcius. But it certainly is the hottest day in 70 years.

Almost hot enough to cook a steak :p.

I bet the Top Gear guys could cook a good meal under the bonnet

And we are going to melt for a long time
flipping hot weather predicted

Is that all? 46.1... I thought Australia was supposed to be a hot country, USA reaches more than that.

Hmmm... still in the 29-32 range here... hotter than a week ago, we were having a record cold spell. And to think, we're closer to the equator than you Aussies, aren't we?

Yeah but thats 29-32 with air full of water :p... I would rather a Dry 45C heat. :D

It gets higher than 46 in the Australia, that's for sure. One place got to 46.5(115F) today (Ceduna), and it's only getting hotter tomorrow, if they had a weather station in the middle of the desert I'm sure it would get in the 50s. I started up my car before and it said 49C, that didn't suprise me though was it was parked on black tarmac which I could feel warming my feet through my shoes just standing on it.

To be honest, it's not that bad, you get used to it, I'm wearing a T-Shirt under my work shirt still. But I guess it's like you Americans thinking snow is normal and "Not that cold", whereas if it got below 12C here people would freak out about how cold it was.

They've closed the roof at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic (the defending champion) retired because of the heat.

I'm going to the tennis tonight, actually. But sucks to be the players at the moment.

In New York it was something like 40 degrees lower than the record high.

I heard you guys were pushing 100 degrees+ with 100% humidity at times. Needless to say I could never live there when my body starts shutting down at around 90 degrees, even if it's dry.

Yeah place in the USA get hotter (eg Death Valley) but what is there population. Adelaide has a Population of approx 1,119,000+

Coober Pedy
YULARA AERO
Ceduna
Marla
Oodnadatta 50 Deg Celcius

I am quite sure If you were to go into the middle of the Dessert you could just well have 55+

Ceduna Got a High of 47.4C poor guys

To Be Honest, once the temp goes over 40C it fells the same to me anyway. I would kill for the Temp to bet at 12C, as I find it a lot easier to get warmer than to get cooler. Also with that 12C, We would probably have rain with that which would be nice as were in the middle of a drought.

Las Vegas population well over 2 million

Where did that Max 46.1C temp come from anyway?

I bet to differ, when I was travelling through Death valley one year without aircond (Car had A/C couldn't use it) it reached over 50C, one thermometer said 132F (55C) on it which may have been a little off, I don't know, but it was torture, much much worse than the 45.7C I have been into today. I then knew why it was called death valley because I thought it was going to consume me.

The aircond worked in the car but it could barely keep going without using it, at one point the ECU went into limp mode it was so bad we had to remove the thermostat which helped a little, then we blew a rad hose due to the rad cap getting jammed. It was so hot we had to drive with the windows almost fully closed as the hot wind was even more torture.

Queenslad today is just stupid, I mean first day of school with 20kg of books and alot of walking!? You guys in Adelaide normally get dry heat which can be bad on your feet (Scalding) but today my teacher mentioned your night time was at its lowest at 33degrees. That is bloody hot. Over here 33 degrees is shocking due to the humidity:yuck:.

BTW, half my life was spent in Adelaide (birth place).

65 degrees inside the garage right now, we took all the PC parts and TV's out side and into the house just incase.

Yeah I prefer this dry 45 than a 'wet' 35 (or wet 30 for that matter).

Oh and my feet are fine, I wear socks and shoes :p

I do too but when I came down to visit family, they have a house down on the murry (more of a shack) and the walk from the shack to the water is around 50m, that cannot be done in 40 degrees with no shoes, you burn your feet, it was terrible, this was on red sand mind you. Tell ya what, the water was a very welcome treat.

EDIT:Come to think of it, it may of been 30m even.

It was pretty hot last Friday at Sydney BDO, isn't the Adelaide bdo later this week? It's forecast to still be around 40 degrees there at that time...being in the mosh in that temp would be suicide!

After some serious thinking to figure out what BDO was (almost used google), yeah it will be 40+ on that day. Nothing unusual though as from memory it always is uber hot her during BDO and I am sure the paramedics will be busy.

I wasn't heaps fussed about the heat until the train I had to catch never turned up due to a buckled train line, so TransAdelaide organised some busses to get everyone home. The bus my friend and I had to get on was an old one with no air conditioning and I had no seat for most the ride home. :indiff: On the bright side, I found a bakery where I got an awesome sausage roll. Also some people were giving out free water at the city train station, which was great. A camera man asked me to drink some water for the camera, so I may end up on the news too.

I saw the news about the train delays, you were not on it, I watched channel 9 I think.

I wish Queensland Rail or at least translink had of been at my station, could have done with some water. Also, I had never brought a water bottle to school last year but hell, I am so bringing one till the weather cools down from now on, I spent 6 dollars today just on something to hydrate me. Sure the school provides water taps but they taste metallic.
