I was bored so I had a quick read through about 3/4 of the "New Details about SA thread" and came across the following rumours and stuff, a lot of which came from magazines and commercial websites and people cut and paste into the thread but that turned out to be untrue.

Some of it was stupid like claiming that it took 30 minutes to climb Mount Chiliad? Some of it might have been stuff that was removed or altered, like the idea of having your weapon skill displayed as a % onscreen.

Anyway, I've cut and pasted them here...

=======================
You'll be able to run a casino in Las Venturra.

In the country you will also have inbreds and degenerates who give you missions reflecting their environment.

and the more you kill, the better your accuracy becomes (as displayed in a percentage in the top left)

new rival gangs The Flats and The Ballas

Dan Houser [co-founder of Rockstar Games] says that he cannot find any way to complete the game in less than 150 hours.

You can swim, dive, find oxygen tanks (scuba gear maybe?), and more

You can get your own gang weapons and cars.

You will be able to pickup hitchhikers

Apparently you can purchase groceries, and you have to wait in line before purchasing them

you can now buy packets of cigarettes and smoke them at will [apparently removed at last minute]

West of Los Santos is a RU Haul truck stop, where CJ can do 18 wheeler races as a side mission [not quite true, you can deliver stuff for missions, not do races]

You can talk to pedestrians with dialouge boxes ala RPG game

Carl's mobile will help you get back on track if you get lost.

It is possible to bury people outside of missions

The article hints toward skateboards in the game

If you cycle all of the way up Mount Chilliad on a BMX, which takes a good 30 minutes

There is a motel up on Mount Chiliad

Drives between cities will take 15 minutes

If you leave a car on the street, it will get towed but you can steal it back from an impound [the jury is still out on this one]

There are more "alternative incomes," such as farming on a rapeseed field

Kenji and Asuka will co-own a casino

There will be 30 weapons including axes, shovels, pepper spray, tasers, blow torch, nailgun, metal poles, and tear gas

R* reckon that it takes 100 hours to complete the main story missions

[editted to remove rumours that were actually correct]

Yeah, in one of Woozie's missions you drive a Rancher out to the countryside to make the Da Nang Boys think you're taking that Yakuza guy. Forgot his name; leader of the.....Red Geckos? Lol i have no idea.

I've heard about this impound before, but never seen it? Is it true?

Well, one rumour I wanted to be in SA was the ability to kill people, store them in your trunk, and use the shovel to dig them a grave....Sadly that wasn't in the game. I also heard in some rumours that there was a guillotine(sp?) It would have been cool to pull one around and shove pedestrians heads into em and slice em off.

There is an altimeter, it shows up next to your map when you fly.
-

I heard that there would be limb removal, but there really isn't.

I heard there was going to be a branched storyline, where you could persue different jobs and have different personalitys.

Not a rumour, but I still wish there was a Lambo-based car, like an evolution of the Infernus from VC.

Three countryside missions: In the 1st mission CJ has to help his buddy, who is hunted by a motorbike gang and needs a diversionary maneuver. So Carl races trough the forest in a jeep, with the gang after him - since they assume the victim is in the car. CJ has to stop them from destroying the doors to keep it a secret. As soon as you pass the checkpoint race your cellphone rings - your buddy is safe, and you get the $400 reward. (KM - I'm pretty sure there's no mission like this, is there?)
That's true. You create a diversion for the Da 'Nang Boys to follow you, because they want Ran Fa Li dead.
KM
You will be able to pickup hitchhikers
This is in the PC version.
KM
you can now buy packets of cigarettes and smoke them at will
Last minute, Rockstar Games removed the ability for CJ to smoke cigarettes and weed to avoid more controversy. It would be promoting smoking, and Rockstar didn't want that.
KM
West of Los Santos is a RU Haul truck stop, where CJ can do 18 wheeler races as a side mission
This is a half-truth. Those are the Trucker Missions, but they aren't races.
KM
Then remember there is an amusement park
On the big Pier in Los Santos there is one, with a Ferris Wheel and little toy and games stands around the place. This means it is true. It does not say that you can participate.
KM
If you leave a car on the street, it will get towed but you can steal it back from an impound
Apparantly this is true. It doesn't exactly get "towed", but Rockstar used this as an excuse for the disappearance of cars. There is an impound, but only rarely will you see a car that you have had previously which has disappeared. Blackbird confirmed this, however noone else did. I think it's rare. I'd put a note next to that explaining.

As for the rest, most of them were taken out to provide more space on the disc, as I guess the game didn't run as well being completely full. Things like the time it takes to go between cities are either false information from whoever posted that, or an exaggeration by Rockstar in order to sell the game more.

I really like the one with the hitchhikers. Especially if some of them where actually running from the law and by picking them up it starts a taxi mission where you need to get them from point A to B with 5 wanted stars or something like that.

It may have been a coincidence that the game decided to spawn my tuned tampa to that parking lot or impound as I call it. I did not confirm the towing part.:odd: I confirmed that your car gets impounded when you get busted. It may only be tuned cars, it may be a rare coincidence. But I think everyone tested somewhere other then San Fierro. San Fierro is the only one with the "impound" part of the parking garage. I'll say it again.

I found a tampa and tuned it. I drove it around got 2 stars [forget why] and I don't know how but I get busted.[opening driver door and pointing gun at CJ] When I respawn I decide to look for a nicer ride at the impound I discovered a day earlier[real life time]. When I got there it was the exact same tampa I had been busted in a day earlier[GTA time]. Isn't that enough evidence for you?

How do you know it was the same one--- how exactly did you identify it??-- I want to try and repeat this.

Spuds

I knew it was the exact one because it was tuned exactly the way I tuned it. That is why. That is hard evidence right there alone.

I don't remember that mission for Woozie. I'm going senile already.

The ones that got me were articles claiming that magazine editors who played the game took 30 minutes to climb Mount Chiliad or that they flew for several minutes in a straight line without coming across a town. Those are obvious BS. I wonder who was doing the BSing though and where the figures came from.

And what's with Dan Houser supposedly claiming that there's no way to complete the game as far as he knows in 150 hours. I think Small_fryz has a time of 76 hours, that's half of that. And that's only the first time through. I bet with a bit of planning and a good knowledge of the game, someone could cut that time to 40 hours or less.

KM.

tsk, tsk, everything he says is true.
criteria required is thus:

tune a car.
one worth keeping anyway.
get busted.
go to the impound (theres one in SF and theres one in LV) yes there is!
find your tuned car impounded.
get it back.
get more stars, evade them.
or get busted and repeat ad infinitum.

When you say tuned-- what do you mean??

I've only added nitrous to cars to try jumps so I'm ignorant of such things. Give me an example of what you did to the car. Hydraulics, flames, etc????

I've been to the impound lot and drove around on a bike evading police and stuff and the cars down there kept changing as I drove around (new different ones spawning)-- which is why I want to verify this--- also if the car is damages when you are busted, is it repaired or left in the same condition.

Someone's had a 65 hour one, haven't they?

I'm closing in fast - 8% left (Vigilante, BMX, remaining Oysters, final mission, properties) for around 75 hours. I think under 50 hours is a distinct possibility, but not much under 45 hours. It's simply a question of travelling.

White color, wheels, and hydraulics. And since as far as I had gotten in the game no one else but the player [me] had tuned cars so I knew it was mine. Plus it was all too much of a coincidence and I decided it was a impound. Vexed confirms this.:)

About this impound thing, I bought a Big-Foot from the Docks, left it around China Town. Played for about 10mins in LV, went back to SF on the bridge that goes over the Police station and onto the top of one of the Cable Masts (the one with the parachute on top) and chuted into the impound. Guess what...............the Bigfoot was there, also with a 3 start wanted level. :(

It may only be tuned cars, it may be a rare coincidence.
I've just tried it with 6 different tuned cars in a row and none of them turned up in the impound lot.

I got busted in my car deliberately on 3 occasions and on another 3 occasions I just left my car in the road and drove around and came back to verify it was gone. I tried it with both a couple of Bullets modifed at Transfender with nitro and a new paintjob and with 2 Sultans, an Elegy and something else (I can't remember the name of it) modded at Wheel Arch Angels. On each occasion after I either got busted or the car had gone from where I left it, I went to the impound lot but found nothing of interest.

Apart from a Raindance helicopter with 2 cars parked right through it. That was a little strange. But none of my tuned cars were there. If it does put your car there, it seems to do it pretty rarely.

I just want to confirm this myself-- I've been a regular on this board for about 19 months-- if I confirm this, I'm pretty sure most people will believe me-- and I will post screenies of my car when I'm busted and in the lot to prove it-- I can take a vid clip of it if needed.

Don't take this personally blackbird---I know I've seenyou around before but I don't know you or vexed well enough to take your word for it. There are alot of BSers on these message board. I want to confirm this for you guys.

Spuds

No offense taken. But if it is very rare you may not confirm it or you will I don't know. Just saying what I saw.;) It's ok that I've been on this board for 3 years and no one believes me? Look in my profile and you'll see I have been here for 3 years. I was previously SS2, and WhiteCharisma85. I have been here longer then you.;) Just clearing that up.

I'm glad you aren't taking offense, I've seen you around (I recognized whitecharisma), but once again, I just don't know you well enough. All of my posts have been under GTA forum here, so I'm just pretty well known here, but know nobody outside of GTA on the GTPlanet forum....I am fairly well known at GTAForums.com--at least with the regulars under VC and some of the mods know me--

I will video tape my game and hopefully can find a modded car in the garage right after I get busted so I can show a continuous clip of me losing it and finding it there. Alot of people might not believe it unless they see it (I'm one of them which is why I want to try and prove it). If you can give me any other advice on doing this, I'm all ears.

Spuds

NOT RIGHT AFTER. You must wait a full GTA day. Just to make sure it spawns. I didn't exactly go straight to the impound. I did some other stuff too. That's all the advice I have, revise my previous posts for possible advice. Good luck.;)

Just to clear up for Spuds, Blackbird, he did this with me also on my Record for Cone Crazy. He made sure he knew it was possible.

He's not trying to offend you, or say that you haven't been here long enough to be trustworthy, it's just that before San Andreas had the massive hype around it, there were only a select few regulars on this board and it was very close-knit, but after San Andreas has come out, a lot of people have rushed in here, and it's hard to tell if some are trustworthy or not, regardless of how long they've been at GTP.

I know you Blackbird, and I do believe you as I consider you to be a trustworthy guy, so I have no queries. But this is more of a case for Spuds taking on the theory "I'll believe it when I see it". So don't take too much notice.

Anyway, let's get back on topic here.

KM -- I suggest you edit the first post to get rid of the confirmed rumours. All of them in my post I'm 100% sure it's true, but leave the Trucker rumour on the list, as it is only a half-truth.

You can fit up to 8.5Gb on a DVD, but San Andreas uses less than 5Gb on the disc.

Maybe games can't come on dual layered discs for some reason so they're restricted to 4.7Gb.

I didn't get a chance to try this last night, will try to confirm this tonight.

There's only room for one crochety old fart on this forum and that's me.

I'll try the impound thing a few more times. It might be random or rare. I'd like to try it a few times to see if there's any pattern to it if your car does turn up in the impound lot.

San Andreas is one of the only, if not the only dual layered game. At least it was said to be a dual layered disk before the game came out, I presume it is.

But apparantly games on dual layered disks can be fairly unstable, I think that's what caused all the disk read errors etc.

Yup, apparently Sony have said that some PS2 models can have difficulties with dual layered discs. But if it was dual layered, then they left almost 4Gb free. That's more than enough room for the features they left out.

KM.

What about time though, it only went gold a short while before it hit the shelves.

That's what I was thinking. They might well have abandoned unfinished or concepts like skateboards and just removed them from the game due to lack of time.
