used the audi r10, with no upgrades and racing soft. by lap 2, i was in the lead. the ai cars had more acceleration and top speed, but i had more cornering speed. so it was back and forth when they would almost pass or pass me on the straight and i would make up the spot on the turns.

by lap 30, racing soft was almost gone and i made a huge mistake not pitting. when the tires (rear right) finally went, i spun every corner. then to top it off, i hit the pit entrance and just drove thru the pit lane w/o new tires. by the time i finally got new tires, i was 4 laps down. after ai cars pitted, i was 2 laps down and not making any grounds on the racing hard tires.

could not stomach sitting thru 2.5 hrs and coming in last...so restarted. it was fun tho.

i just got the x2010 last night in a trade. took it out for a spin and on the straight the steering wheel was shaking like crazy.

I need to do one or two more laguna seca races till this event. But I am not looking forward to it at all. I can see myself dozing off halfway into the race.

i'm taking my 4th break, and i'm only like 60 laps in. i start yawning and my eyes get out of focus after a few laps...

Dude, why did you restart?
Because the R10 is a diesel and the tyres won't last all the fuel tank doesn't mean that diesel is useless...

Same thing happened to me. I didn't pit until I started spinning out. And when I started spinning out, by the time I got to the pits, I was 1.5 laps down. So here's why diesel is good. I didn't have to wait to refuel the whole tank. Only refuelled so I last exaclty to the next pit stop. The AI have to wait very long to fully refuel, so by the time they pit and came out, I was in second and 15 seconds behind the leader. Won the race by 6 laps in the end...

i used the r10 with racing softs. won easily. first 18 laps on a set of tyres you dont even need to lift off of the throttle. tyres for me lasted 25 on soft, 26 on medium and 24 on hard. but the lap time difference was a 3second gap from each compound. so i stuck with the softs won with less the 1minute lead. if i had used he softs all the way through i know it would have been atleast a 3minute lead on the win.
i was cornering at about 210mph up to about 225 in the straights on the softs. took me 2h33m to complete. i remember that because if you get the race finished in under 2h30m then the average speed is over 200mph. damn hard and medium tyres killed my speed.

i dont know i found it really easy with the r10, stock not even an oil change.

btw i was using about 55L for the 25 laps. or 2.2L per lap.

Corner at about 190mph and you'll last at least 5 laps more...

I've tried this race twice and both times I almost fell asleep. Used the Sauber first and then FGT second. Furthest I made it was to lap 65. I might wait till I get a wheel before doing this race again. My hands were hurting from holding down the right bumper non stop.

I grabbed a rubber band and strapped it to the trigger on my ds3 no aching finger:sly:

Turn off the steering assist. If that doesn't do enough then unplug the power cable from the wheel. It will feel weird at first but you don't have ANY shake.

ha weird, just finished this event and stumble upon this
i used the minolta with race hards, still had to pit around 25 laps
but finished with a 4 lap lead anyway. nice prize car though

Did this one three times: 787b, 908 hdi and X2010. Using the X2010 is not as much fun and only saves you 20ish minutes. The other cars were a lot of fun though... Especially the 787b was a joy to drive!

freight48, thanks for the tip. will try that with the vettel challenge as i just unlocked it after finishing the indy 500 endurance.

skylinefx, i restarted b/c after i pitted with racing hard and after the ai pitted, i was 2 laps behind and losing time. on a road course i would have kept going and even finished less than 1st, but the indy 500 is not a race i plan to do it again. nevertheless, the r10 was fun when holding off the faster cars on the straights.

i find that i enjoy these endurance races a lot. to manage the tires, time the pit stops, and to keep improving my times are quite fun. running hot laps is fun too, but the endurance races are almost like F1 races in real life.

i also find that the smoother i am, the faster my time is. slow in first out really makes a big difference, not only in times, but also in tire wear.

Im not a fan of these style races but i did want the XJ13 race car so i did it with my FGT with racing hard tires. the only thing i was annoyed about is my fuel not lasting as long as my tires.

XJ13 is a awesome car btw one of my favs now that i have it

Although I appreciate what PD are doing here including an endurance on a track like Indy Speedway, but it really is senseless. Driving round and round in circles might be exhilarating in real life when there actually is competition (and a chance of death, let's be honest), but it is zero fun in a video game.

I did this race for the first and last time yesterday. I wanted to fall asleep, but the XP and the XJ13 were worth it in the end.

no way! It's a lot of fun! Pick a fast car, listen to some fast music and go! This is your chance to blast through 800 kilometers in less than two and a half hours. :)

I did the Indy 500 in my tuned minolta. It took me around 2 hours 30. I love the prize car

I am going to run this race again, want another XJ13 :dopey:, it is a pain in the A going in circles for that long, but the Jaguar makes up for it in a big way, may resist the temptation to use the X2010 and go with the FGT ... maybe  What a shame you can't win the P4.

Did it today with the Minolta 88C-V, won by 13 laps and used softs all the way. Didn't expect to be as fast as I was, and I managed to make the tyres last around ~30 laps to minimise pit stops. I almost ran out of fuel twice though, that sure scared me! It was boring but it's worth it so I don't have to spend 20,000,000cr on one car.

That might not be worth the cost in lap time though. I saw your post during one of my coffee breaks when I did the Indy 500 today and I decided to test what you said for a few laps. Normally with the pedal to the metal I did 41 flat in my Audi R8, if I let off the gas and cornered 30 km/h slower (~20mph less) I got 42+ 3 laps in a row. So with your strategy I would lose at least 1 second per lap which adds up to over 200 seconds for the entire race. I pitted every 34 laps so 5 extra laps would only get me 1 less stop, and that saves about 90 seconds (1.51 in and 1.01 out). In the end I lose at least 110 seconds over the race by letting off in the corners

It might be different in other cars of course, I got 34 laps per stop not 25. Even if it saves 2 stops I would still lose time at the finish though.

The real question is why won't the AI drivers drive faster on ovals when it's clearly not worth it to conserve tires. I mean my fastest b-spec driver ever on indy was level 0, and that was because he didn't know how to use the brakes! :)

You cannot win a prize car more then once like GT4, unfortunately...

I used a 787B Stealth. Racing Hards, getting 30-32 Laps per tyre change. Refueld 75 litres each pitstop which lasted the distance. Cornering around 210, getting 230mph on the straight without slipstreaming.

In the end I won by 4 laps. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that boring. I'm glad I used the DS3 and not the DFGT though, didn't see the point when all you have to do is turn left all the time.
