Note to the Lexus SC430: it is now beyond over for you. Infiniti, Nissan's BMW-hunting luxury brand, has unveiled the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible, a retractable hardtop 4-seater that preserves the Coupe's good looks even with its 3-piece folding roof neatly tucked out of sight, as you can see here. Power from the 3.7L V6 will be in excess of 320 horses, and numerous comparos against the BMW 335i convertible are inevitable. You can practically hear the buff mags reserving track time as we speak. Sunny Los Angeles will be the venue for the car's formal unveiling in November, and likely a fertile ground for sales when the time comes.

Nice! A proper sporting coupe/convertible, my guess is that it'll seal the deal for Lexus and Cadillac to make their own competitors with the IS and CTS as well...

Looks nice, but nothing special.

Agree that the SC430 is officially dead now though. Always disliked how that car looks.

Yeah. It's just another entry into the hardtop 'vert class. I don't think automakers need to worry about it if they don't already have a car in the class.

The SC always looked like it was molded out of play-doh. It was a chick-mobile for sure. I wonder how much less of one this car will turn out to be.

The only good SC430 (not the only good SC, mind you,) was/is the Tube-frame Super GT racer.

as for this...It's kine of one of those cars that makes you say, "Well, it's nice to have another version, I guess."

Looks very nice indeed, from the side angle I can see a lot of SC430 there. Im sure it wont be long before we see an offering from Toyota/Lexus... Maybe an IS-Convertible.

How long until the inevitable GT-R Convertible photo-chop shows up?

You know there's no 4-door convertibles on the market today right?
Why?
Motor Authority
Four-door convertibles haven’t been popular since the 1960’s, where cars like the Lincoln Continental drop-top roamed the streets. Part of the reason why most manufacturers haven’t produced them in volume is because of the extensive structural modifications required to stop them from flexing too much. Not only does it add significant costs to the development, but the cars also suffer from poor dynamics due to the extra weight of the modifications

Full article is here, and the other article about a 4-door droptop in-the-works is here.

Sadly, as nice as your Lexus chop looks, that car is tooooooo small to get the droptop treatment and still be able to be stiffened sufficiently. :(

Now if this one was to get Nissan's 370GT treatment with some Nismo goodies it might even be a serious competitor for the Mercedes SL series. It's probably not going to happen though... from the factory. I hope someone goes for it privately.

No one ever remembers me. :guilty:

That's not quite right. The B-pillar forms a loop all the way around, and there's cross-bracing at the roof level, even with the roof removed. I suppose it's technically a convertible, even though you have to do it all manually, but it's hardly the same thing as a '61 Lincoln.

Speaking of 4 door convertibles.. From the books of "we never saw this coming" comes the Nissan Murano Convertible!

In what, speed? I guess I'm not really following. Everyone tries to benchmark the SL, and every time, Mercedes comes out on top. Those pesky Germans, bah!

Make it an ISF Coupe and we're talkin'

That would be an LF-A. xD although yes, an IS-F coupe would be nice.

How come everyone seems to hate it? I always wanted a convertible SUV. That wasnt' a Jeep.

I take it you haven't seen the TG episode where they say "How Hard Can It Be to Make a Van Convertible?"... xD

The GT-R 'vert chop made me think...

The GT-R wouldn't look bad as a 'ute. And yes, I just said that.

Of course, the roofline in its entirety would need to be redone...

GT-R doesn't have enough back seat to chop out to make a ute.
