The AE86 Trueno SS is the Initial D car. Famine might be able to explain it better than I can, but the creator of Initial D (Shuichi Shigeno) is the reason the car sports the SS moniker. In the Manga Takumi puts a carbon fiber hood on the 86 to counter the weight of the new engine.
