Seems like the HD you have in your PS3 makes a difference after all, even though reports say it doesn't...

Woot! The WD Scorpio drive paid off, started off at 30mins to install and in the first couple minutes dropped to 15mins. Should be done in 10mins :D

Hmm maybe I should get a 7200rpm drive before I install GT5....
Used about 50% of my 120GB factory drive right now. It's usually fairly quick installing 1+ GB demos off the PSN in any case. 1-2 mins or so, and that's reading off the drive and installing back onto it.

6-8GB should not take that long reading off a BD in theory. We'll see
 
On my PS3 60GB full instalation took about 30 minutes - with update 133MB. Just enough to watch the news :)
 
Im a newbie when it comes to things like this. I have an original 60gb PS£ (got this so I can play GT4 still on her)

Shouuld I change to a 7,200 rpm drive? I presume I just buy any size IDE drive I can find on the bay? Does PS3 have a top GB rating it can see? Does a 7,200RPM drive make any difference?
 
My GT took <30min, the HDD is
Hitachi 7K500, 500G

It loads much faster after installation.

Same.. Around 30mins with update.

My 'GT' machine is a 1st gen JPN import 60Gb. I imported it on the release of the PS3 all those yrs ago in anticipation of GT5. it's had GT-HD, GTp & the TT's so it's only fitting to spend it's end days fulfilling it's purpose..finally :dopey:
 
My 120 gig slim took about 45 minutes. I have 31 demos on it and about 33 gigs left now after the install.

hey, i bought the Gt5 Bundle ps3 with 320GB and the install was very fast from what i have read here. it only took me 20-30mins. and the download 2-4mins. Peace all.

Thats good to hear. I am getting the 320GB PS3 GT5 bundle so hopefully my install time is the same as yours
 
ow do you know when u have intsalled this to teh ps3? I did it, went to options and saw it in there and clicked agaian, and took 30 min, dont know if this means I have uninstalled it. Anyway to find out whats installed on my hdd?
 
took about 40mins or so
wasnt paying full attention but i have a 320GB PS3 that is 4/5 full of movies
 
Japanese version ( 8 Gb ) took ~45 min for 160 Gb slim model.

Enough to get bored with JP Apex book.

Full english support was happy surprise :)
 
I think I am a record holder, the game is being installed for 1 hour 1 min 35 sec as of now and its still intalling it, just the game, no update. :crazy:

ok it finaly installed itself, it took 67 minutres and 49 seconds and 14 miliseconds. Who can beat this time :)????

It might have lagged trying to log into the GT5 network. Best to stay offline for now, until they clear up the servers

If you go to the Game section of the XMB PS3 screen, GT5 should be in the game data utility section if it's installed

My install took 1 hour and 20 minutes.

My PS3 is a fatty. Think it might only be a 40gb one (would that be right). Was still £300 notes aswell. Had it for coming up 3 years now.
 
40GB fat here, install said it would take 20mins, took about 40. Now the game still installs when loading an event/option for the first time, weird. In the options the option to do a full install is still there! The options says it takes 8GB which is exactly what the first install said it would take. I haven't checked my game install use on XMB yet. It seems like i wasted that install time though since it's still installing on new loads and has the option remaining in the menu... stupid!
 
ive got a 160gb slim, and it took just over 50min.
 
Just checked XBM, GT5 is there but there is a - for the size when i go to info.

WHAT THE HELL!? I waited 40 mins for it to install, it said it has installed, and it didn't. YAY!

I think i read somewhere that the original install is 8gb but the game will then install a further 2gb as it progresses.
 
i got the orginal 80 gb version. Took me one episode of mythbusters and i was good to go.
Got to watch grant kary and tori knock busters socks off!

i checked my install file size its currently at 6.5gb
 
1h 15m. It got stuck at 17 minutes to go, 45 seconds to go and the final 3 seconds took 20 minutes!

120 GB Slim which has had plenty of stuff installed.
 
I have an original fat 60GB machine and after DL'ing the update first (which took a hair over 2 mins) i left the game to install whilst i had dinna and did a couple of work related things so i dont honestly know how long it took other than it was done when i went back to it about an hour or so later.

Im more annoyed by the constant 'installing' message everytime i go into something, its only a couple seconds or so but its EVERY time i want to do something. I thought the install was meant to remove all this thats why we all spend an hour waiting for it in the first place.

How do u know when its installed. How do I check?
 
Including the patch, took about an hour to get it all installed and going on my 80 gb. Was the longest hour ever.....

mine pretty much did this, I had to google and make sure it hadn't froze
