I just bought gran turismo 6. Got it home and tried to play it but needed an update. That took ages and then my ps3 switched off. Put it back on, says it needs to install, then after an age of saying its installing, it says there was an error during installation. Happened a couple of times now, tried disabling internet connection, but still the same. Been trying for 7 hours to play this now. Please can I get some help if anyone knows what to do to get this game to work? I will be very appreciative for any help. PS I'm not very good at computers and stuff so explain in terms I might understand if you could be so kind

It's your router, not the PS3. Maybe the download or install screen is stuck at 99%, then after you select to cancel the download, the system freezes and you start turning it off, then you hear a triple-beep.

Actually, you don't need to update it to play it, but having all updates means a more complete game.

I think its finished downloading but not completing installation. It is the first time I have tried to play it

There is maybe something wrong with the disc or your internet connection. Try experimenting with either of these. Or better yet, delete the old game data, although this would mean a really long download from the start.

The disc is clean as a whistle and internet connection good?
It should be clean and your internet connection must be good. If none doesn't seem to solve your problem, then deleting the game data (not your save data) would be your best bet, although you'll have to wait for a long time again as you will have to download everything from the start.

If your disc is clean, your internet connection is good, and deleting the game data doesn't help you, then there's something wrong with your PS3.

No way man. I've had her about 4 years and she's only been on for probably 20 hours in that time. She can't be broke, can she?

Just try experimenting with either your internet, your disc or try deleting your game data and see what'll happen afterwards. If none seem to work, your PS3 is Rickroll'd and you can't install GT6 updates anymore.

Costs money, but the cheapest if I can remember is $14.99 for a one-month membership. :)
If other games work fine, and update with no problems, it means that maybe the gt6 data is corrupted, and btw ps+ is a heck of a deal free games, background update 17.99 for 3 months. :)

Very likely theory. Maybe you should start updating the PS3's software, then after that, update GT6 again.

I don't even know what PS+ means lol :/

Update 4.60 seems to have completed successfully so now I have re inserted the disc. So far I'm at the update preparation process

Now installing... approx 170 mins. Left. (It did this before then after about 46 minutes it said blah blah blah you just wasted that portion of your life etc etc)

Maybe updating your ps3 was the first thing to do! Let us know later.

It's a subscription service for playstation devices like Ps3,Ps4 and vita.
One more thing: PS+ is almost like Xbox Live since it is subscription-based, but you'll get free background download updates, free and discounted games.

Yep, update PS3 to 4.60.
If the game still fails to install, delete GT6 game data from the Game Data Utility folder.
Then start GT6, cancel when it prompts for updates, and play 'offline' to test everything is actually okay.

Then it's a matter of successfully downloading the updates if you wish to play online or get access to anything that's been added since release.

To be honest I dont understand about updates n ****. I hardly ever play ps3 because of trouble like this.
Never got this with sonic 2

well, i played it without connecting to psn just fine, so i have deleted all the data, downloaded it again and now i am at the point where its saying its installing, '2 minutes left' and the bar is going up incredibly slowly (its been like this at least half hour now)
I am hoping that it will work this time, ill post further 'shortly'
