If i were to get a new hardrive, and wanted to make it my primary, how would i install windows from my recovery cds? Btw, i would clean my current hd, and make it the secondary hd.

Format the HDD. Put in the CD. Let the good times roll.
Thats it? Have you ever done it? You used a recovery cd, not a normal windows install cd, correct? My computer is a Sony Vaio, if anyone want to know.

It should install everything that was originally on the Restore CD.

Nope :D

j/k. But are you using a home-made Recover CD, or a manufactured one (e.g: one made by Dell, eMachines, etc.)
Manufactured, official Sony Vaio Recovery CDs that came with my computer.

You should be fine using a recovery cd to reinstall your operating system. I've used a recovery cd on several systems without any drawbacks.

So, you used the recovery disks on a computer that it wasn't for? What about drivers and stuff?

No. I have several recovery cds. I only use each specific recovery cd for whichever computer it came with. Specific drivers and programs are not reinstalled by a recovery cd (at least on my systems). I still have to download or reinstall from a cd for my drivers and programs. However, most of my drivers and programs are backed up on a secondary harddrive on one of my computers. I can reformat a system and be up and running in less than a day.
