Hi all.

I realise this error has been talked about NUMEROUS times, as a quick search will prove. However I haven't, as yet, found one which gives the same message as I am getting. Likewise, the majority seem to be errors resulting from a 1.0* update, whereas mine has been triggered by the update to 2.05.

I haven't played GT5 for a while now (Last played on 29th January 2012 according to my save data file), so when I went to have a go tonight my PS3 needed to do a software update, followed by GT5 updating to v2.05.

Now I am being given the error: "insufficient free space on Hard Disc Drive (HDD). At least 32Mb required. Please exit the game and free up some space. 0x000000000 [272]"

First check was how much free space I have - 64Gb, so it's not like I am out of free space.

My saved data file in the Saved Data Utility shows I last played on 29th January 2012, and the file is 766Kb (I read that the file size was an issue on older versions, I don't know if that is still the case) and shows my play time, current credits and current car.

My Game Data Utility shows I am on version 2.05 (File Size - 11Gb). As well as that, it shows my two Stealth cars (I got a ticket for stealth cars when the game was bought), as well as a DLC car pack I bought.

So, most of the advice I have read involves deleting the game data and starting again - something I am a little worried about doing in case I lose either my game progress, or my stealth cars and/or DLC pack.

If I do delete this info, will I lose all of that? My system is NOT set up to automatically back up the data online (If I'd known before now that it could be done, I would've done it!), so I don't have a back-up. And I don't know how to go about backing it up to a flash drive (Literally I know to throw the game disc in the PS3 and boot it up, and I know how to play it. I know nothing else beyond that!)

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I would back up your "Save game" file to a USB drive or something. Go to "game saves" and press triangle to bring up a menu, click copy, then to USB. This is just to make sure your safe (you don't need to delete it). Now make a back up of the "game data", just in case. Delete the game data file, reboot your ps3 and see if the game will load. It WILL make you update to the newest version which will take a while to do, depending on connection, but its worth a shot.

Please note that your save game file is going to be fine and will not be deleted or anything. I just say make a backup because a lot of people here have been having issues with game saves being corrupted.

Also note, you will not lose your DLC cars, they are stored on file from the PSN Store and will let you re-download in case of problems.

But what about the stealth cars? The codes to download them were one-shot only if I remember correctly. Will I lose them?

You can find your downloaded stealths from store "downloaded" and just download them again, so no codes needed 👍

No, you will be able to re-download them from the PS Store, just look at download history.

Thanks for your help guys. I will try this.

Have to find myself something which will work first. I tried my own 60Gb external HDD but the PS3 won't recognise it as it is set up for NTFS formatting. I also tried another external HDD with the same problem. My largest flash drive is 4Gb. So I am borrowing another external HDD from a friend who is going to format it for FAT32 for me

Will let you guys know how I get on. Thanks again for your help

Ha Ha, so, now I have finally got an external drive compatible with the PS3 and large enough to hold the data file, I now find I can't even copy it! Pressing the triangle button brings up the options for : "Delete", "Update History" and "information".

So, I am going to go just straight for a delete option, then I will reinstall the game. Hopefully that cures the problem without losing my progress or car collection!

Back up your save data on USB first 👍
EDIT: There is reinstall option in GT5 settings, you should try it first.
It doesnt remove your savedata but always make backup save first 👍

Ah I have already deleted the game data and am currently re-downloading everything again. 56% of the way through...

I have backed up the save file to a USB drive though ;)
