Intel Pentium M Processor???

Hi! I am considering purchasing a notebook/laptop from Dell. I have noted that over the past half year or so their processors went right up to about 2.44GHz and then dropped back to 1.5GHz when they started using the "M" Processors. Can someone clarify how the M Processor is better in non-technical terms and also is a M Processor running at 1.73GHz just as quick as the previous processor running at 2.44Ghz?

This is all very confusing, :nervous: and as I am not computer literate, it makes it extremely hard when I compare Dell's 1.73GHz processors to other retailers 2.44GHz processors running on standard processors.

The Pentium M is more of a Pentium 3 than a 4. It uses a lot less power and produces less heat, making it a popular notebook processor.

Anyways, the 2.0 Ghz models give 3.4 Pentium IIII's a run for their money. No power house, but that isn't its design purpose.

For a Notebook, unless you are gaming that is, this is probably your best bet. If you are gaming and don't care about any of the battery life or the heat, then get the beefy AMD 64 processor.

Simply put, Pentium Ms run cooler, faster, and more efficiently than do Pentium 4s.

Because of this, a 1.7GHz PM is equivalent to the clock speed of the processor plus ~1.2GHz. Therefore it is roughly equivalent to a 2.9GHz P4.
